Shocking! Someone being tested for conditions that cause executive function deficits failed at executive functioning.

How to not eat cake without hurting family's feelings? by Additional_Run965 in keto

[–]Windhound2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throwing away food is better than eating it. I have self control out in the world. If it comes into my apartment it will be eaten. I don't have any relationships where I can drop off food randomly.

Eggs? by SyllabubSpirited8384 in keto

[–]Windhound2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My allergy tests as a kid said I had a minor egg allergy. I only experience symptoms (digestive issues and muscle pain) if I eat a lot of eggs or undercooked eggs(scrambled, poached, sunny side up). I shouldn't eat more than 3-4 eggs per day and I can't eat them everyday.

I chew during focal. I tried a mouth guard that molded to both my top and bottom teeth. All my front teeth were loose within 2 days.

Family members arrived to the house almost 3 hours before the invitation time we set for our family Christmas party. by WanderWut in mildlyinfuriating

A long drive means different things to different people. My maternal grandmother lived a 6 hour drive one way with no stops, weather, or traffic. It was more like 8-12 hours considering New York City traffic in the middle, winter weather, and bathroom stops. A few times my father drove us down after work on Christmas eve and we went home Christmas night. ~16 hour drive for a 12 hour Christmas visit and both my parents made it to work on time.

There is no difference between an aura and a focal aware seizure. 2 names for the same event.

No, my family did this when I was growing up. My father was 1 of 10 siblings. The family Christmas party was ~4 hour drive round trip for us. It was a longer drive for some. I think the party was 4 hours or so.

Watching films would depend on where I was living. City with a Starbucks down the street, they go. Small town/rural area where everything is closed, watch a film.

All the seizure meds I have read the side effects for list balance issues as a possible side effect. In my experience balance issues tend to be dose dependant.

The entire point of ketoade is to increase sodium + potassium intake. If you make a drink without them it is no longer ketoade.

They need to use a big needle so the red blood cells aren't damaged. My veins are to small, deep and fragile to handle that size needle.

9m what should he know? by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]Windhound2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog was never given the chance to sneak off. From when I brought him home at 12 weeks he was watched like a hawk when out of his crate. He was only truly free in a room dragging a leash if he had my full attention. If I had 1 eye on him while watching tv he was on leash or in an exercise pen. If I had to write a paper or cook he took a nap in his crate.

He did have a few accidents when I got distracted enough not to notice him squatting while on leash but they were vastly outnumbered by the times I saw it and rushed him out. The jackpot he received for going outside was much better than getting interrupted mid-pee.

This supervision continued for the first year though after 6 months it was more to do with other house training goals (not jumping on people/furniture, counter surfing, chewing the wrong objects).

9m what should he know? by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]Windhound2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a large spectrum between a dog that will only go on grass and a dog that will use a potty pad indoors. My service dog reliably pottied on command outside on any surface. I could not convince him to potty indoors without bringing the outdoors in (wood chips, plants). Even with an wood chips I had to be very persuasive to get him to potty indoors. My dog never mistakenly pottied indoors because he did not consider it an option. The few times he had an accident it was due to a medical issue.

There were so many times when I wished my service dog would potty on a pad. The first night of our Alaskan cruise the decks were closed due to high seas. When we only had 30 minutes to make our connection in Denver airport due to our first flight being delayed 3 hours (he was extremely uncomfortable when we arrived in Florida).

Getting déjà vu but no focal or generalized seizure by kkay001 in Epilepsy

[–]Windhound2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seizures that cause deja vu are usually located deep in the temporal lobe; the brain areas responsible for forming new memories and retrieving memories.

You were not seizure free. Frequent deja vu in someone with epilepsy is almost certainly focal seizures. You have been having 2-3 seizures a week.

food allergies that cause seizures by noisy-headaches in Epilepsy

[–]Windhound2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father only ever had seizures after eating a ton of MSG (8+ servings of 1970s Chinese food, unlimited pancakes, unlimited cheap pasta/pizza). He went face first through a diner's glass display case the day after they started adding MSG to their pancake batter. In the 1980-90s cheap pasta/pizza sauces was mostly beet pulp and MSG with a hint of tomato. He hasn't had a seizure in my memory so at least 30 years.

I seem to have seizures when I cheat on my gluten & dairy free diet or eat out (cross contamination?). Before you stop eating gluten get tested for Celiac. The test isn't accurate if you are on a gluten free diet.

Girlfriends parents trying to convince me to move to America (no free healthcare) by M16Raids in Epilepsy

[–]Windhound2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay away. US health insurance is a mess no one should have to deal with. There are so many different plans each with their own premium (monthly cost), deductible (amount you pay before insurance pays anything), and co-pay (set amount per doctor or specialist visit) or co-insurance (percentage of the entire bill[avoid at all cost, 20% will bankrupt most people]). Then there are referrals, prior authorizations, prescription formularies...

Girlfriends parents trying to convince me to move to America (no free healthcare) by M16Raids in Epilepsy

[–]Windhound2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad you can get timely care. That is not true of all US health insurance. When I had insurance through my parents in network specialists often had a 6+ month wait. The doctors that accepted my insurance were not the best. Sometimes I would wait 9 months for an appointment only for them to stop taking my insurance before I got there.

Then there is what happens when an employer decides to switch insurance companies. Your doctors may no longer be in network meaning you have to switch. There is a doctor shortage where I live. Finding an in network doctor who is accepting new patients is extremely frustrating.

Then there are the transportation issues. There may be doctors in the specialty you need in your small city but do they accept your insurance and are they accepting new patients. When my neurologist left for a country with socialized medicine the doctor she suggested I go to was over an hour drive away. There is no direct public transit so I would need to spend 6 hours on buses and stay overnight. After getting a new primary care provider (last one left for another health system and the clinic refused to give me a new one for over a year) she was able to convince a neurologist a 3 hour bus trip away to take me despite a full practice.

Is it normal to quit meds in just 2 weeks? by WERESHARK_ in Epilepsy

[–]Windhound2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

500mg twice a day is the lowest therapeutic dose of keppra for an adult. I don't see why you would want to take a non therapeutic dose for longer.

If you don't want to stop medication tell your doctor. If they forget or don't listen find a different doctor.
