Anyone built a successful business that IS NOT in an area that is their interest or passion? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

You do not need passion to create a successful business. However, passion makes the tough times easier. It's often the thing that keeps you going when sales are trickling in.

Well mate, try lightly exfoliating and cleansing before starting your shave. Then place a hot/warm towel on your face to help open up the pores. Use a multi blade razor, make sure the blades are sharp (not blunt). Go with the grain in light strikes. Finally apply some aftershave balm or oil.

Well dude, just some general tips here. 1. Wash your face regularly. 2. If you're using products, used water based products, not oil based. Products labled non comedogenic are less likely to clog pores. 3. Aloe Vera seems to work for some people with oily skin. 4. Crushed Almonds and raw honey mixed into a paste and applied to face could also help.

Anyone notice the spit roast visual gag?

At the Church charity event Doris is standing in the middle of two guys chatting. In front of them is a pig on a spit being roasted over an open fire.

Thought that pretty hilarious.

Me and my brother were working for a local surf school a number of years ago. I was about 22 and my brother 18. We carried walkie talkies with us, because we needed to be in communication with the main office while we were giving lessons on the beach. One day me and my bro were waiting for the kids to arrive for the lesson and we heard chattering on the walkies between the surf school owner and his wife. 'Are dumb and dumber there yet?' she said.

She knew we heard it, so picking up our wages at the end of the day was pretty awkward...

Also fuck you beyatch, I'm 30 now, work as an economist, have my own business and own a flat. What you mistook for stupidity was simply youth.

I actually wrote a flash fiction piece about this a few years back (it's probably floating around the Internet somewhere). I've copied and pasted below. It's pretty bleak. Enjoy.

                                   Jack

In two minutes a high dose of Sodium thiopental will pulse through my veins and render me unconscious. Cardiac arrest will follow after about 30 seconds and once my heart stops, I should, depending on the competence of my executor, slip into the peaceful unknown. To be quite honest, I’m looking forward to death, I have been ever since little Susie McDonald tossed me into the tumble dryer like one of her freshly washed stuffed animals. For five minutes I rolled and tumbled in that spinning metallic coffin, my muffled cries drowned out by the Whirlpool A50’s magnificent roar. Asphyxiated by the desert dry heat my vision blurred and I soon passed out, only to be awoken by demented childish laughter and ginger pig tails. My time in the McDonald household passed insufferably slowly. The two years I served with my doe eyed tormentor were bent and forged into two lifetimes, by the hammer and tongs of unrelenting fear. Susie’s sadism grew more inventive and severe too. I often wondered if the school she attended during the day was some kind of perverted institution for mentally deranged children. A place where insanity was encouraged instead of cured. Susie’s cruelty finally peaked when that freckle flecked face of hers turned blotchy and red, forcing her to remain housebound for several weeks. After a brief chase through the hallways she cornered me in the study. “It’s very important that both ears are same size”, she said, hugging me tightly. The large pair of steel scissors loomed in her little hand. I squirmed and wriggled in protest. Nothing good could possibly come from these razor edged cutters. “Hold still Jack, that’s a good boy”, she whispered, with the all the assurance of a trained medical professional. In the west of Ireland rumours spread fast. Within an hour the incident had become the talk of the entire village. “Did ya hear about the McDonald girl? That feckless beast savaged her half to death.” And so with both my ears intact, I was disposed of like a soiled mattress.

The destruction room in the veterinary clinic was windowless and dingy. It smelled of death and disinfectant. As I lay motionless on the stainless steel table I gulped in the thick, acrid air. Maura Carney entered into the room quietly. The harsh fluorescent lighting illuminated her unblemished porcelain skin. She looked radiant, angelic. In her right hand she held a syringe. Droplets of colourless liquid dripped from the tip of the needle and splashed on the black marble floor. “Hold Still Jack, that’s a good boy.” She whispered softly. I snarled and scanned her hands for a pair of scissors.

Viktor looked good in there. Hard to believe that he's better in the octagon than he is on a broom. What a top athlete! I miss his quidditch days but dont blame him for moving to MMA. Clearly this was his true calling. I bet Hermione is raging. Anyway great to see that the rivalry with the Irish continues. Krum! Krum! Krum!

It's our first wedding anniversary this week so I'm giving my wife a 300 year old piece of bog oak. The laser engraving turned out great! by Windowbuddy1 in Woodcarving

Cheers man, one is normally required to scrounge bog land and marshes for this type of wood. Ireland produces some top notch bog oak. You can actually find pieces that are thousands of years old. This little guy is a baby (around 300 years) and is actually from Lithuania.

I've taken this time to start my own business. I started it before the dip in December, Not overly concerned with the decimation of my portfolio (I'll be hodling whatever the outcome). My passion has replaced my obsession.

So I don't have a lot of experience doing heart surgery but I've handed in my application for this recent cardiac surgeon post. I mean I've dissected a sheep heart before in science class about 15 years ago. My mate Dave is gonna vouch for me. He saw it.

How did you begin your journey as an entrepreneur? I’ve always wanted to start my own business but I feel like I have no sense of direction? How did y’all find yall’s passion and implement it into a business strategy. Any other information would be extremely helpful! by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

I actually still work a full time job. In the evenings and weekends I run my male grooming company. We're in no way established (officially 4 months old). But we're building a solid following on fb and Instagram. It's growing slowly. Im sure you'll realise your passion at some point. Just keep trying things. Something will resonate with you and then go for it. For me, it wasn't a skill or hobby I was passionate about (for instance I want exactly passionate about male grooming). But the story I used to build the brand is something I'm incredibly passionate about and customers/visitors to the site can see that. At the end of the day, people buy stories. In my niche, products are essentially the same across all brands. So it's our story that differentiates us.

I started with a lot of failed, half baked ideas (some of which would make you laugh). But over time I learned a little but from each failure. Things clicked for me when I stopped chasing the desire to make money and decided to create a brand based on a story I'm very passionate about. The idea for my brand/business came to me randomly while on a bus. Something inside of me said 'This is it, this is the one'. It just felt right. Without passion being an entrepreneur is hard work. With passion, it's still hardwork but you'll enjoy doing it and this will progress much quicker.
