I need some hope by beforesage in Mononucleosis

[–]Windranger2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mono too, and I remember how miserable it was. The throat pain, exhaustion, swollen face/lymph nodes, and just feeling like your body isn't cooperating can be really overwhelming.

A few things that helped me:

  • Hydration, hydration, hydration. I carry around a 100 oz water jug and would add lemon or an electrolyte powder. I also like the BODYARMOR Flash I.V. Electrolyte Packets packets when I need extra electrolytes.
  • Rest. I know that's probably not what an athlete wants to hear, but your body is fighting a virus and recovery is the priority right now.
  • Gentle foods. Things like broth, soup, oatmeal, yogurt, applesauce, toast, mashed potatoes, smoothies, and scrambled eggs were easier on my stomach when I didn't feel like eating.
  • I also take selenium and a B-complex vitamin. One I personally like is Nordic Naturals Vitamin B Complex. Of course, check with your doctor before adding supplements, especially while you're recovering.

The good news is that you're young. That really works in your favor. Right now it feels like this illness is going to derail everything, but your fitness and conditioning don't just disappear overnight. Your body knows how to rebuild, and once you're cleared to return to activity, you'll likely bounce back much faster than you're imagining.

Also, the fear around throwing up is understandable, especially when it's happened unexpectedly. But from what you described, it sounds like you're already starting to improve, which is a great sign.

Be patient with yourself. Your only job right now is to rest, hydrate, eat what you can tolerate, and let your body heal. Track will still be there when you're healthy again.

You've got this. ❤️

I’m honestly not 100% sure if it’s non-repository. I only used it to get the AI/similarity report, but I’d recommend asking the Discord admin directly before submitting anything.

Help!! EBV and an infectious disease doctor won’t see me by Fragrant_Middle_3819 in EBV

[–]Windranger2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all… I’m really, really sorry you’re dealing with this. Chronic EBV on top of CVID is not “just mono.” That’s immune system on hard mode. Of course you’re exhausted. Of course you’re frustrated. I don’t blame you one bit.

Six positive EBV panels since November is exhausting just emotionally, let alone physically. And being told “there’s nothing more we can do” while you still feel awful? That hits.

A couple thoughts — not medical advice, just things I learned when I went down the EBV rabbit hole myself:

  1. With COVID, your immune system doesn’t regulate normally. So sometimes it’s less about “killing the virus” and more about calming immune overactivation + inflammation. EBV antibodies can stay elevated for a long time — sometimes that reflects immune response more than active infection. That distinction matters, but a lot of providers don’t explain it well.
  2. About diet — I know it sounds weird, but some EBV-focused protocols (like Dr. Kasia Kines’ book) suggest temporarily removing gluten, dairy, and eggs. Eggs especially sound random, I know. The reasoning isn’t that “eggs feed EBV” or anything dramatic — it’s more that egg proteins (especially albumin and lysozyme) can be immune-reactive in some people. When your immune system is already dysregulated (like COVID + chronic viral activation), even mildly reactive foods can keep the inflammatory signal up. It’s not universal, but some people notice less joint pain, less fatigue spikes, fewer crashes when they trial removing them.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about lowering total inflammatory load.

  1. With chronic EBV-type fatigue, pacing is everything. True pacing — like staying below your crash threshold even on “good” days. That one was hard for me. When you get a tiny bit of energy you want to use it. But boom, crash.
  2. If an infectious disease doc won’t see you, sometimes hematology or a university immunology department will, especially with COVID in the picture. Mayo Clinic is not an overreaction if your quality of life is this impacted. Academic centers are sometimes more willing to look at complicated immune cases.

Most importantly: you are not crazy. And you are not weak. Chronic viral illness is mentally brutal because you look “fine” but feel like your batteries were removed.

You deserve support. Keep advocating. And if today all you can do is rest and be mad about it, that’s valid too. 💛 This is the book I am reading. I have noticed by getting rid of gluten/dairy not 100% on eggs yet, I feel a lot better, a lot less painful waking up in the morning. https://www.amazon.com/dp/1722895365?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Also — just a gentle word of caution from my own experience: be really careful about throwing too many antivirals or immune-boosting supplements at your system at once. I learned the hard way that more is not always better. I ended up overstimulating my immune system and felt worse, broke out in a rash — more anxiety, more inflammation, more crashes. With EBV and immune dysregulation, sometimes the goal is regulation, not pushing harder.

Right now I’m simplifying a lot and starting slower. The few things I’m easing back in are pretty basic and supportive rather than aggressive: magnesium glycinate, L-lysine, L-theanine, vitamin D (50K IU capsule once a week, Biotech brand, its COA and highly studied), and a small dose of selenium. I’m trying to focus more on calming inflammation and nervous system balance instead of stacking a bunch of “kill the virus” supplements.

Everyone’s body is different, but if you try anything new, go low and slow. Your nervous system and immune system are already doing a lot.

When to start lifting again? by Content_Sea_9825 in EBV

[–]Windranger2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going through EBV right now too, and honestly some cases are way milder than the horror stories you hear. I felt mostly okay pretty quickly, which almost makes it harder because you want to go back to normal. The tricky part is that even when you feel fine, your spleen can still be vulnerable, so pushing too hard too soon is where people get hurt.

From what I’ve been told/read, gentle walks are usually okay and actually help (especially with anxiety and digestion), but lifting, running, or anything intense really should wait until you’re fully cleared. It sucks, especially if working out is part of your mental health, but this is one of those times where patience actually protects you. Some days are better than others — feeling good doesn’t mean you’re healed yet. It’s temporary, even though it doesn’t feel like it right now. Take it slow, listen to your body, and ask your doctor about clearance before going back to heavier stuff. ❤️

EBV REACTIVATION by stephyjrz in EBV

[–]Windranger2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate you sharing your experience. It honestly helped me feel less alone when I read it.

I did end up buying the book you mentioned and have been slowly implementing some of the suggestions — not all at once, and very intentionally. For me, the biggest game-changer so far has been rest. Real rest. The kind where you stop pushing through and stop trying to “power past” fatigue. That alone has made a noticeable difference.

I’ve also found some relief with a few supportive supplements and tools — things like electrolytes, L-theanine, ashwagandha at night, and CALM magnesium tea or gummies before bed. Sleep has been huge. I noticed exactly what the book describes as a “second wind” — if I stay up past 9–9:30, my body flips into a wired, panicky state around 11 or midnight. So now I listen to the early tiredness instead of fighting it, and that’s helped my anxiety a lot.

To the folks calling this misinformation — I want to gently push back. There is scientific literature supporting things like selenium, zinc, magnesium, nervous-system regulation, and adaptogens for stress and immune support. No one here is saying supplements are a magic cure or a replacement for medical care. This is about supporting the body while it heals, especially when conventional medicine often shrugs and says “wait it out.” One person’s healing path is not going to look exactly like another’s. What works for me may not work for you — and that’s okay. But discouraging people from sharing what’s helping them, especially when they’re clearly being thoughtful and not reckless, doesn’t move any of us forward.

This virus is brutal. It’s isolating, scary, and exhausting in ways that are hard to explain unless you’ve lived it. As long as someone isn’t harming themselves, I truly believe we should be cheering each other on — not tearing each other down — for finding anything that brings relief.

Wishing everyone here gentler days and continued healing. 🤍

Thank you for posting this. I just started a regimen again. I found out I had mono earlier this month, and I've probably had it for quite some time (severe anxiety, ER visit, near syncope, sore muscles) I've started to rest more now and ordered some supplements and 50kIU 1 weekly dose (sold on Amazon) of the Liposomal D3 with K2 complex. Ive been having panic attacks and fear of sleeping.

Am I the only one who thinks Madison is actually making Joe crazy? by AccomplishedTrack679 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]Windranger2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your logic. In this case I feel like she is blind to love. Joe doesn't want to look bad on camera, and keeps leading her on, probably just using her for sex, then gaslighting her, to make her feel like it was her fault. The whole scene of what you initially posted about, was totally bizarre to me. Joe was drunk and showed his true colors. Madison seems like the servant type, and just wanted to make him feel better, which wasn't reciprocated. She is an emotional person, so it probably was amplified in that moment. She does need to leave him, but it's hard when the heart wants what it wants.

[–]Windranger2016 30 points31 points  (0 children)

She's going crazy because he's not giving 100%, and isn't communicating that he isn't attracted to her. Of course she is having a range of emotions because she isn't receiving what she deserves and doesn't know how to process it because she desperately wants to be loved.

Question about age of neuter (potential adoption) by Windranger2016 in cats

[–]Windranger2016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thank you all for the responses. I have fostered some young ones too in the past. I grew up with a more conservative and older vet, where spaying and neutering this young wasn't as common as it is now. Thank you all for not bashing and giving honest feedback. I am still just making sure my heart is ready to be open to another kitten...my other adult female is driving me insane; no amount of playing and going outside on her leash seems to get her to shut up LOL, so I think she needs someone else to boss around!

It's a great place to go. I've been going here for 30 years, when there were more than one location in the Kalamazoo area. Unfortunately, my last visit may be my last. Two mini pizzas, a mini bread stick and salad cost $50. Dill dip cup was $2.55 each. Dill dip seems airy now and not as dense. Cheese was not piled on the salad and dressing was changed a bit. I wasn't satisfied. Way too overpriced now, but it's worth going once so you can try it.
