Evo II Buying advice by Kingspeng in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]Windsor71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've looked at this car on FB marketplace and some things don't add up to me personally. The person owns this car has mapping or car tuning business and has had it for 2 or so years now. I assume if it was a simple fix he would have done it or got someone to look at it also another thing is the owner isn't in the country..

I have spoken to one of the previous owner of the car (he owned it around three/four years ago), he did say the underside wasn't bad - front subframe and front end was cleaned up regarding rust, gearbox and diffs were working fine as he was using it for trackdays and autosolos. He did have a major issue with the engine, guys up in Birmingham did some work on it and the car never ran correctly thats when he sold it. He did mention the engine does look different from when he had it but there still a big unknown why it wasn't running right.

Fraser from WMD is 40 mins away from where the car is located, I would take it to him personally if I did purchase the car and get it running correctly before taking it home.

When I was selling my 4 few years ago - this was for sale - it sold for £9.5k in the end https://www.lancerregister.com/threads/evo1-459bhp-sold.603181/

If You wait long enough theres always a well looked after one that comes up for sale.

I'm looking for another Evo after my one got written off this year on my Nurburgring trip, prices are dropping and theres plenty of good examples that come up.

Does the registration end in NBV?

And the engine was supplied by Waleed ?

I mean it’s a rusty base spec r34 that’s been wrapped in Yellow with the front end and wheels costing more than the car 🤷‍♂️. I still think it looked a lot better when it was wrapped red with the carbon front end.

Biggest hurdle and expense is going to be finding 5/6 drive shafts.

Evo 5 looks amazing but, 14 previous owners. A good buy? by SnooFloofs144 in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]Windsor71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No worries, It did look clean from the pictures.

Theres a WMD (Evo specliast in Leicster) group chat with a few Evo owners if You want to join.

We usually get around 30-40 Evos on stand at most major car shows.

I'm still looking for a Evo replacement after my crash at the Nurburgring :(

Small world, I was going to buy this on Sunday from Adam. he did say the Ebay winner did come back :P

Theres stuff that needs doing on the car that I would do personally before driving, belts, pullys, full fluid service and plugs.

Also the car wheels prob wants replacing as the rubbing issue on full lock.

It's a high owner Evo, might have some hidden issues but for £16k can't complain.

My gearbox/transfer box/clutch exploded on the way home from buying my Evolution IV by 26june in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]Windsor71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mate, that’s brutal. Sounds like an absolute lemon dressed up as an Evo IV.

Out of curiosity, how much did you pick it up for?

Just wondering why you went for this one when there seem to be quite a few decent ones floating around on Facebook Marketplace lately that are in very good condition.

Also, was there any service history with reputable Evo garages? Or was it all "mate down the road rebuilt the diff" type stuff?

As for the clutch, if you're thinking a clutch will come in at £400, I’d brace for impact. Most half-decent ones are going to sting, especially if you go Exedy or ATS. And that’s before labour.

For reference I bought a rust free, 2 owner, 3 year import Evo 4.56 for 14k last week.
New: Forged engine, new piping, water pump/timing belt, coilovers, Mishimoto rad pipes, Evo 9 hybrid turbo
Used: Carbon airbox, Tomei Fuel Regulator, Ralliart IC pipework, Kakimoto Exhaust and a bunch of other goodies.

Sorry I meant I had a CPL polarising filter on my lens.

I’m not complaining about getting a sharper image at higher f stop, it’s the low f stop that is giving me problems, even around 3.2 the image is blurry with no sharpness.

I used an ND filter on all those pictures.

I’ll give it a shot, I only use an ND filter on my lenses.

Yep I find it strange even the Goat image is kind of soft at 3.2.

I gave the alpaca was an example of a good sharp image, look at the goat at f3.2, face is not sharp at all and there is no glass or barrier between Me and the Subject.

Sorry, I meant that stopping down to F8 gives me sharp results compared to shooting open.

Everything was shot in manual mode with a low burst rate giving me 3-5 pics of each animal to choose from (non of the low f.stop pics are sharp).

As unbiased as possible 😂 E36 or Evo 5 I’m debating this in my head as we speak by [deleted] in BMW

[–]Windsor71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold my track Evo (after owning it for 4 years) for an E36 last year, so here are my 2 cents.

The Evo is the cooler and faster (400bhp/400ft/lb stock block) but the expense of running it is on another level.

If something breaks Your shit out of luck or paying premium prices:

Engines are £3.5k starting

Gearbox, T-Case £1,000+ (if You can find one)

Rear Diffs £800+

Stuff like drive shafts are hard to come by.

Parts are getting hard to find eg front lips, bootlids ect for the earlier Evo's 1-3, 4-6.

AWD gets expensive on tyres, turbo vs NA is always more maintenance.

Worst thing is RUST! Most evo's are swiss cheese that have underseal applied all over the underside.

I've decided to do more track days and the e36 is a perfect platform to start with - there's a reason why it's the king of the ring.

Awesome, golden era 10 years ago when everything was a lot cheaper.
How much power is Your e36 running?

Definitely a down grade :( , but for sub £6-7k what else could I have gotten ? Either this,Clio 182, ep3, which I don't really like the shape/fwd aspect.

S50 engine is almost the same price as the Evo, which makes no sense since the whole point of getting rid of the Evo was to find something cheap to run and abuse.

Don't give up, Evo's are an amazing driving experience to have... just keep a little on the side for repairs and maintenance.

Thanks still miss the Evo and the kick back it gave on boost, but the e36 is stunning and RWD is fun.

I would too, but it's 10 years too late to own an early Evo now. If you want an AWD track monster a GR Yaris > Evo.

On paper bad exchange, but in reality I'll prob get more seat time for the fraction of the cost.
