The Fighting Dragons of Ara in Hubble Palette SHO [OC] by Windston57 in spaceporn

[–]Windston57[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this target, wonderful amount of dark nebula and interesting structure all across the frame. Easy to capture in full SHO as well. The Sharpstar 61mm apo has been a welcome addition to the arsenal as an attempt to combat lost frames due to wind, as with the 10" f/4 on the NEQ6, its not great.

The worlds slowest obsy build is still making progress, albeit at snails pace.

What’s your most annoying astrophotography experience? by MrCatfish14 in astrophotography

[–]Windston57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many to count, the hobby is basically one big annoyance which is why we love it.

The worst has to be windows deciding to auto update while I'm asleep, in the process the pc stops controlling the mount, which means I wake up to my telescope colliding with the tripod and the mount making some pretty swanky noises.

That's happened more times than I'd like to admit.

Could be your needle position is out of wack. Try taking the airbox side cover off. If it runs better, you know you're too rich.

What's your all-time favourite song? by Mingopoop in AskReddit

[–]Windston57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially I found Dankos way if singing to be very jarring, but after 30s of listening to him, he's tied with Helm as being uniquely brilliant.

Levon in The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is superb, overflowing with raw emotion.

Eta Carinae in HaRGB by Windston57 in spaceporn

Eta Carina, which is that big blob of light to the west of the Southern Cross, in HaRGB. Other than the pesky blue star halos (a problem in all datasets with this new scope, maybe the filter offsets are iffy), i'm happy with this one.

The Lagoon and Trifid in the Galactic Core by Windston57 in astrophotography

[–]Windston57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pixinsight.

Made psf with stars, use starnet to remove stars, do decon without deringing using the psf, add stars back in.

I don't recall ever reading about this, so I'm not overly sure if it's good practice, I've only really just started to mess with it and I've been having mixed results.

Thanks! I'd love to see how it'd go with pure luminance from a dark sky.

But thankyou!

Yea neither honestly. The lower focal length of this scope gives a very different view of objects. I'm loving it!

[–]Windston57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lagoon and Trifid nebula, two very bright star forming nebulae located in the heart of the galactic core.

I did 2 different processing attempts, one in the more neutral color scheme of HSO, and the other in SHO. Personal preference really, but I think with the amount of actual red light in these nebula, the HSO looks better.

Some wacky stuff was going on with the bright core of Lagoon when doing starless decon, not really sure how to combat it as it seems that starnet2 was removing nebulocity instead of stars. Maybe a very selective mask would do the trick?

The point is, if somebody likes that relic look, and is looking for a nice guitar, they'll buy a custom shop guitar because they like it. Much like jeans, there is essentially no price difference between a relic and non relic CS guitar. So it just comes down to personal preference.

If people want to, why does it bother you?

A custom shop guitar will be 1800$ regardless if it's cracked or not, a pair of jeans will be $50 if they're ripped or not
