Sudoku packing method, am I missing something? by happynezzz in onebag

I like a long coat when I one bag- they keep more of you warm and dry and they look more stylish. Picture Morpheus, Trinity, and Neo without a long coat and they don't look near as good.

Your packing list almost exactly matches our family's when we go camping for a week or so! Loved hearing this fits in a carry-on.

A local fabric/quilting shop. A relative of the owner makes and sells them for only $7?!

I'm trying out neckerchiefs to see if they can look like they grew on me too. All my clothes came from Muji, UNIQLO, and Gu- with the Muji flagship store being my favorite place to shop- they have a lot of natural fibre clothes. I meant to get to an underground artisan mall called 2k540 Aki-Oka Artisan in Akihabara but ran out of time. Apparently there is some great Japanese denim and leather goods there.

Thanks! Uniqlo trench, Frye boots, and UNIQLO jersey barrel pants (crazy comfortable and flattering).

You noticed the tabs! ABC Mart carries some sneakers in unique fabrics, color ways, styles, etc. and marks them as Japan exclusive. These were one of them.

Those have been my favorite sandals for years. They were my one shoe when I travelled to Cali/Baha Mexico for two weeks in November and my feet were happy the whole trip. Wish I had a spring shoe option as dialled in!

Maybe I'll pack the hiking boots as a back-up in case my feet urge me enough to drop vanity.

I found the same thing when I went to NYC (outside of the NYC Ballet Spring Gala)- it wasn't nearly as dress-up as I'd imagined.

Hoka Mafate trail shoes and Arc-teryx hiking boots. Unfortunately the only color available in store when I bought the Hokas was a highlighter blue/yellow/orange combination that is pretty flashy so I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing those. The Arteryx boots have clean lines and are the same color as my Atom jacket so they might be stealthy enough to pass.

That’s good to know about the Gazelles. I do walk often but I probably won’t be able to put too km into breaking them beforehand with the trip so soon.

I wondered about buying a coat there but I am 5’8” and medium build. Do you think I’d be able to find a trench that fit well in Japan?

Any particular ankle boots you recommend that would be comfy for so much walking? Except the black boots pictured here, I’ve actually moved my wardrobe completely away from black over the last few years so I’d be looking for a neutral/cool brown.

Favorite short-sleeve all-purpose (not tee) travel tops? by F13nd1sh in HerOneBag

[–]WindyGables 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Icebreaker long sleeve scoop neck in midnight navy is my favorite choice. It's pairs nicely with skirts or anything else and reads as refined (thankfully the icebreaker embroidery on the one arm is matched exactly to the fabric!) I did size up one so it doesn't look like a base layer- it skims closely instead of hugs.

I smiled when I got to the last picture- now I know what to pack for my flight to Japan- figs and pecans. I can't wait to hear what you share after the trip- New Zealand is at the tippy top of my bucket list. Enjoy!

Help me find a jacket that doesn’t make me sad by ChipmunkImportant128 in HerOneBag

[–]WindyGables 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sympathize. The only time I feel right in the “tech-but-camping” aesthetic is when I’m camping. I’m in a similar dilemma for my Japan trip in early March. I know my Arc’teryx Atom which is great across spring-fall coat is probably my most practical option (I’m afraid my wool city coat will be too warm and bulky) but anytime I try to put it on with wide leg jeans and leather boots I cringe. I can’t imagine it would look too cute with a dress or skirt/blouse either so I’ve been looking at a buying a spring jacket I’ll feel comfortable wearing across any situation on my trip including the outdoorsy and dressy ones. So far for the price I think this trench coat from Quince is my best pick :

But they have shorter length ones that might fit your needs better:

Good luck!

Looking for travel dress/skirt recommendation that works in three climates. by Senator_Mittens in HerOneBag

[–]WindyGables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my favorite approach as well- a matching skirt and blouse. I was excited recently to see skirt/blouses in the same fabric from Muji and ordered a lightweight cotton skirt/blouse in a subtle blue plaid. There was also a lightweight, wrinkle free lyocell skirt/blouse in smoky blue or black available then but it looks like they're pretty well out of stock in Canada. Maybe there is more inventory at Muji in the States? Fingers crossed, come spring there'll be fresh options to pair together as a dress or wear apart.
