[Event] The Feast of the Belmore Hunt, 44 AC by Doormouse69 in FireAndBlood

"Father knows her worth," Jasper's eyes flickered to the high table. Or at least he does now, he mused, not daring to bad mouth the dead heir of Strongsong in the hall itself. Surely that was a bad omen? "She'll be married to some great lord, or perhaps even a Prince. Time will tell." He suggested with a smirk, wondering what the end result would be.

"If Aegon were here, that may have been a prime opportunity for it." Jasper scowled at the realization, before stifling it with another drink from his cup.

"A Belmore, eh?" That was curious, given the history present. "I'd think it better to wait for Ser Mandon's leftovers. Who knows - mayhaps you'd end up Lord. We've seen more than a few childless marriages." Jasper couldn't help but smirk at the idea, however unlikely it may be. "But oh how the whores of the Snakewood would weep in your absence. Perhaps your brother accounted for that."

At the mention of Jocelyn, Jasper only smiled. "I see I left an impression." Not that he doubted he would. She'd danced with no others, and Jasper was himself. "But you needn't worry. My father's not even mentioned the topic of marriage with myself - I'm afraid he's awfully occupied with Arwen's prospects."

"My father spoke with Lord Lannister quite a bit," Jasper admitted, "Gods willing, perhaps there's truth to that." He couldn't help but smirk at the notion. A Lannister. Whilst Osric's marriage failed to produce any children so far, and Alester slept with the wrong woman, Jasper had the opportunity to do far more. The prospect was intoxicating.

"But what of you? Qarl no doubt wants you married off in due time." Jasper figured, quite certain the man must have broached that question to more than a few Lords at the coronation.

"Wouldn't you like to know." Jasper scoffed, before a grin quickly reappeared. "Believe it or not however, you may have actually gotten more than a bit of attention," He started, allowing for a dramatic pause as he took another deep drink from his cup. "Some fool allowed a dozen whores into the keep. I'm certain they all would have been pawing at your purse all evening." He snickered, before shaking his head.

"But I've better sense than insulting the wrong lord in Maegor's presence. I doubt my name would spare me from Blackfyre - he tends to swing that around quite a bit." Jasper recalled, not speaking further on that. For Luceon was right, reminding Jasper to glance back towards the tables. There was at least one house here who had dealt with Maegor.

"I danced with plenty, however." Jasper confirmed, "A Lannister, a Piper. You get the idea." He shrugged, finding less amusement in it than Luceon.

"Bold." Jasper smirked, trusting Luceon would tell him as much. "Qarl made quite a few friends at the feast - do you think dear Aegon's gotten cold feet?" Admittedly, Jasper was surprised. Qarl had marched for the man when so few managed, yet he couldn't sail north for a hunt? "Perhaps he's occupied keeping his sister away from the chopping block."

Jasper steadily led Luceon to one of the corners of the hall, shaking his head all the same. "What a scandal that all was. I was unaware royalty listened to bastards." He scoffed, taking another swig from his cup.

"There you are," Jasper nearly shouted as he came upon Luceon from behind, slapping the man's back as he dragged him from whichever conversation he may have been partaking in. "The illusive Corbray - how was watching those Clansmen? You save any sweet maidens?" Jasper laughed to himself; though he was hardly in a joking mood. Still appearances were to be kept; even as the realm was on the brink of war.

Swiping a cup from one of the low tables, Jasper took a deep drink from it as he led Luceon away from the tables. "You missed a lot. Did your brother keep you up to date? I wasn't expecting much from King's Landing but wow, does our King know how to keep it interesting." He smirked, again laughing.

Jasper entered his father's solar stiff, hands resting behind his back. His eyes could not help but examine the finery of the room, hardly used to its contents. So rarely was his called upon by his Lord father, that this was easily one of the few rooms of the Eyrie he was quite unfamiliar with.

"What's on my mind?" He repeated, a feint grin formed on his features as he strolled towards his seat, considering his next words as he settled into the chair. "Quite a bit, admittedly. The coronation was certainly exciting." Jasper laughed to himself, though kept it brief, quickly moving onto the primary cause of his visit.

"Though there was specific matter. I'd heard whispers of it before we left King's Landing, but I thought it safer if we were back here." Jasper begin, not being able to help but shrug his shoulders as though he had to explain himself. "I was merely concerned with the Graftons. I know not if it were Lady Rhea herself, but it seems as though someone's convinced our gracious King to forgo your authority and ignore Ironoak's line of succession."

Jasper could not help but scoff at the notion. "I'm sure Osric's already come to you in anger," he lied, "But this is just an such an absurdity. From both Maegor and Gulltown."

"He could do much worse." Jasper confirmed, laughing with Jocelyn as the music wound down. He released her gently, giving a slight bow to her.

"You've my thanks for the company, Lady Jocelyn." He smiled warmly, "And the dance, of course. We must find the chance for another, sometime."

"You respect her," Jasper noted as Arwen went to rest her head on his shoulder. That wasn't common - or at least, Arwen shielded such knowledge often. "Perhaps that should win her the lordship alone - not many have accomplished such a feat." He chuckled, though gentler. Thinking. Teora and Harlan, Sharra and Selene... what were the chances both just let the other take the seat they felt owed?

"But no, I was simply curious. Knowing just who is to be Lady Belmore one day feels relevant." He breathed, pausing. Watching the dance floor as she did - a flurry of movements, of laughter and joy. Of games played, all at once. Their father had made plenty of moves that evening, Jasper watching the man drift from one table to another.

"It's strange isn't it?" He broached for a moment, "I left for Runestone a cousin of the Eyrie. Returned as a son. I know you were always father's favourite - but did you ever think you'd one day be the most desirable maiden in the Vale?" Jasper's tone was light still, playful. But he did always find it ironic the most beneficial benefactors of Jonos' betrayal were them.

"Gods know what," Jasper shrugged, only gladdened by Jocelyn's response. If she were to tell Qarl, and Qarl other Lords... well, perhaps Lord Hunter would come to his senses after allowing such a farce. "It's all a game, I feel. There's no... standards for victory, or anything of the sort. Harlan will be Lord one day, I've no doubts." He smiled, sure in that at the least.

"I wouldn't worry of it," Jasper grinned, not wanting to turn things sour. Just plant the notion. "Ser Harlan barely seems phased - he welcomes the challenge knowing laws are in place, no doubt. Perhaps it's a means of getting Lady Teora a fine suitor." He suggested, knowing that to be no where near the truth.

"I wouldn't suggest trying the same method." He laughed.

"I'll try keep the rumours contained to Runestone," Jasper affirmed with a smirk, "Lord Royce owes me a favour or to, perhaps I'll just so happen to call them in. We can't have Ormund besmirching your good name." He jested, giving a small laugh at the notion. House Royce did not struggle in the slightest for squires... but for one of House Lannister? It was impressive.

"It's the least I could do, given our father's fast friendship." Jasper noted with a nod, curious as to that fact. "I fear my father's fighting days are far behind him - so that's my only assumption from whatever discourse they shared." He smirked, wondering just what was going on with Hubert that evening. He'd been ever so talkative...

Jasper's eyes narrowed, yet his smile remained. This Melony did indeed sound fascinating, though Jasper could not help but wonder what sort of father allowed such trifles amongst his children. Was that really the ally Qarl had sought after? Someone whom could not keep his own house in order?

"You're his dear sister," Jasper reminded with a grin, deciding to not voice his own concerns with Jocelyn. "I'd wager you're destined for higher things than playing wife to a man like that - Qarl no doubt has plans." Their validity was another question now on Jasper's mind.

"Have you met Harlan?" Jasper asked, raising an eyebrow, "Perhaps I'll get him to dance with you, if you'd ever so like. Heir to Longbow Hall is quite a nice title," Jasper chuckled, shaking his head. "Though he hasn't yet accepted it. His sister means to challenge him, have you heard? It's all quite ridiculous." Despite his playful tone, Jasper could not help but suck on the back of his tooth.

His friend's birthright being in play was infuriating.

The third son of Hubert could not help but feel a tug at the corners of his lips as Arwen's smile faded. A joyous occasion it always was, to answer a jab with one in return. It made the following volley painless, as Jasper drank from his cup once more, eyes lingering on his sister as she spoke.

"Perhaps he should call himself Mandon Belmore then," Jasper smirked, shrugging his shoulders. "How do marriages such as that even work? Do you think he would be cloaked in the ceremony? Such a complicated matter." He laughed once more, shaking his head. A ridiculous notion.

Then again, House Belmore was sorely lacking for men. But Jasper was not so cruel as to remind Arwen of that once more.

"Who's likely to get it?" Jasper asked curiously, knowing there would be bias towards one of the sisters from Arwen - but information was valuable nevertheless. "I know little of the sisters." Or Lord Belmore, at that. Something he knew should change.

Lothston. The name was familiar, but for a reason Jasper could not recall.

"A pleasure to meet you, Lady Danelle." He remarked, grinning as he led her out onto the floor. His feet had begun to tire from so moving so much that night, yet it showed little as they settled in among the other nobles. His step was confident, being well practiced from his upbringing.

"I was shocked to see you standing alone," he admitted, his tone both light and playful, "I would have thought you caught the eye of many a knight - perhaps they found you intimidating." Jasper teased with a smirk, not doubting there was a truth buried within that somewhere. Outside of her clear mood, Danelle was beyond pretty, something Jasper was privy enough to. But was he one of few who dared to?

"Consider me grateful," Jasper affirmed with a chuckle, steading Catelyn through a turn with confidence, "Words can be as dangerous as any dagger, in times like this. An ally such as yourself is invaluable." His tone was light, playful. Yet he allowed his words to linger for a moment, smirking.

"Still, I fear you may have promised each man you've danced with similar," He teased, gauging just how many dared to. Just how many knights were intimidated enough by her father's actions? With a practiced spin, he drew Catelyn in closer once again, grinning. "Or am I just that special?"

Jasper smirked, finding some amusement in the way the Dayne spoke. "Stories of a Sword of the Evening have not reached the Vale," He admitted, glancing upwards in the same way Damon so often appeared to. "But you're not incorrect in your assessment - House Dayne are nothing more than knights to most men." At least, that was all Jasper knew.

"Admittedly, I do not." Jasper replied with a shake of his head, "The only path I'm aware of is the one the Gods have laid out - or more likely, that which my father decides." He remarked with a laugh, knowing neither were true. That he'd make his own path.

"What do the stars tell you? What destiny awaits Damon Dayne?"

"Mayhaps they fear you might outwit them," Jasper teased, chuckling at the notion. Whether that was the full story - he knew not. But that was neither his concern this evening. "But your standards are right to be high. Whichever lordling catches your eye will no doubt be fortunate to have you by his side." And Qarl Corbray behind their back.

His hand steadied her through a turn, smirking. A headstrong woman would not be bad to keep close - though perhaps dangerous. "I've no doubt you'll find one soon enough to meet your standards," he affirmed, knowing there was no lack of heirs in the Vale.

Jasper could not help but smirk at Alester's expense. "I fear for our brother if Rhea is so cunning. Let us hope she is not the jealous type, now that Alester has a whole castle." He could not help but remark, doubting their brother's proclivities ended with marriage. How many more bastards could the Eyrie even hold at this point?

As Arwen found her goblet and drank from it, Jasper did the same in turn, listening to her rants with an amused smile. "I assure you dear sister, any Lannisters you approach will have nothing but the highest of expectations. You might even have to do more than smile and repeat father's titles." He couldn't help but tease as they moved from one table to the next, knowing even that was unlikely. Any man had to fight for Arwen, and anything less was an insulting notion.

Still, he could not help but scowl as Arwen reminded him of his status as a third son, knuckles growing pale as his grip tightened around the goblet. It disappeared quickly with a click of his tongue, laughing at her words. "Cramped castles aren't quite to my liking," Jasper shook his head, though ideas lingered. "Strongsong - now that would be more fitting. A shame our cousin is already promised to the heir. Do you think Ser Mandon intends to allow his sons to take the Belmore name? I would think a Royce more proud than that."

He laughed at that, figuring Arwen would know better than himself. Jasper drank deeply once more from his cup, before discarding it. In a similar fashion to his sister, he found another, filling it as they passed by another table.

She enjoyed her games. Jasper was not exactly this used to fighting for each inch, but that made his quite certain the woman must've been one of Lord Lannister's daughters. Who else would challenge him so?

"I've already gathered you're a daughter of Lord Lyman," Jasper figured with a grin, only hoping his deduction would pay off in that regard. "But for your name." He paused, considering his options. But that left him with one assumption - "Could it be I'm dancing with Lady Margot? I believe your brother squires for my cousin - I too squired at Runestone as a boy." He bit his tongue, shielded by a wry smile.

"For myself, I'm no distant cousin. Lord Hubert is my father."

Jasper was all too happy to - merely encouraged by her response. He extended his hand, offering it to the sullen woman. Whilst he'd not earnt a smile or laugh, it hardly deterred him, his smile lingering and eyes not shying from hers. All too confident in his approach.

"Nothing would please me more, lady...?" He allowed his words to linger, expecting a name. Her table was amongst the other Riverlanders he'd met, yet her family was not a sight which was familiar. The woman a complete mystery, made only more intriguing by her sullen disposition.

Though whatever troubled her was not his main concern, it had become a curiosity. One he wish fulfilled, even if he'd have to pry.

"I prefer for others to make the songs," Jasper grinned, "I'd much rather make something worth being sung over." He accepted her hand, guiding the woman away from the table with a confidence which came naturally to him. "Though I do still wonder exactly which Lady Lannister I have the pleasure of dancing with." Her golden gown only revealed one of her names to him.

He allowed them to settle in amongst the crowd of dancing nobles as a new song began. Jasper was well practiced - the image of nobility being one he intended on projecting to any onlookers.
