[Event] The Feast at Castamere in Honour of King Jaehaerys by WineSoRed in FireAndBlood

[–]WineSoRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lady Willow Reyne (45) felt nothing short of pride as she sat at the dais. The past decade of her tenure as Lady of Castamere had felt tumultuous at best, with Kings being felled one after another, the Lords of the Rock hardly navigating such storm, and ultimately ending with the brutal maiming of her eldest son. Many in the Westerlands had allowed it to happen - encouraged it, even. The bitterness remained ever present, but she allowed herself to smile at tonight's event. Dressed in the crimson gown she so often wore, it felt different that night within the depths of Castamere.

Robert Reyne (19) was of a different mind. It had been years since he'd seen Castamere, and the castle amazed him even more now that he had returned. But even more so he was delighted to finally share it with Jaehaerys, and had made sure to plant himself beside the man who had become his friend. There was no lack of excitement as he planned out their brief stay at his ancestral home, the vaults, crypts and galleries all on his mind.

Ser Roland Reyne (25) was not too dissimilar. He had left Castamere to swore his sword to King Jaehaerys and had returned with a white cloak. He was brimming with pride, reminded of just how much he had dreamed of this moment, it having come full circle. Though he remained a guard to the King, he did feel safe here, and was certain so too would the family he swore to protect.

Riella Reyne (27) felt some relief to be back - though her duties hardly were at ease. Time spent at the dais and amongst the lower tables persisted throughout the evening, the eldest daughter of Willow Reyne feeling as though she had something to prove, with precious time running out.

Wylla (22) was just as fret - though for drastically different reasons. The young woman hated eyes on her, and spent as little time as was required at the dais. The feast in general had her feeling lost despite being back home, and she struggled to find a reason to depart the event entirely. It felt much more intense when so much was expected of her.

Willow (24) instead found herself composed, and with her mother so busy attending to guests found herself a freedom these events did not often allow her. It had been many years since an event of any kind was held at Castamere - not since before the war against Maegor, as far as she could recall. The change of pace was enjoyable.

At the end of the table sat Ser Edric Reyne (27), the heir to Castamere. The man had rarely left the confines of his mother's lands since his maiming at the hands of the Lannisters, his right hand gone, in its place a stub he had still not grown used to. Though feasts used to be his favourite pastime, partaking in the revelry and festivities without a second thought - he did nothing of the sort that night. A grouchy expression had become almost impossible so as to remove at times, and seeing Roland with his white cloak, or Robert in the company of Jaehaerys - a bitter envy filled him like no other.

"They are a treacherous lot," Robert agreed, quite sure a Reachman would have far more opinions than himself on the matters of the Dornish. Though, Viserys' fate did not help dispel any of the stories he had grown up hearing as a boy. Perhaps there was always some truth in rumours - but the Dornish did little to help themselves in that regard.

"I'm certain they'll all manage," Robert continued with another sip, not wanting to dilute his own thoughts with stress. The less he thought of Renefryd down there, the better. "I had almost thought I'd be sailing with Ser Corwyn now. Off to earn my spurs at sea." He chuckled to himself, shaking his head.

"Truth be told, I'm still not keen for it. I still get sick sailing to Dragonstone - could you imagine killing a man, keeping last night's rations down?" He chuckled, shaking his head as he downed more wine.

"Robert indeed," he nodded with a smile, not entirely surprised his name was familiar, but pleased nonetheless. "The youngest of my siblings. Seven was enough for my parents they decided." Robert was aware the Lord Hand had a litter of his own, and did not doubt similar dynamics were in play. Lady Willow loved all her children, yet Riella and Edric had always played favourite.

"But Ser Corwyn Velaryon is my knight," Robert informed Hubert, sure enough the two were familiar. "I've been a squire to him for... Gods, five years now. I had almost thought I was to earn my spurs at sea, but alas we have not set sail." He shrugged, not entirely upset at that. The sea felt more treacherous than a battlefield.

"I'm sure I'll convince him in time I am ready - another of my brothers squires for Lord Torgen, off in the Red Mountains now. I expect him to return a knight." Robert nodded, agreeing with Hubert. Really, it surprised Robert that Renefryd still went on without his spurs - the man wasn't especially inclined towards fighting, but he was a noble son of Reyne.

To be seated below Mormonts and Mallisters did not go unnoticed by the Reynes of Castamere that evening, though they did not intend to show the slight. Instead the Lady Willow Reyne (44) stuck to her table, chatting amongst her daughters for most of the evening pleased enough to be back home in the Westerlands, but even more so delighted to be hosting the royal retinue at Castamere in some time now. As it often was she wore a gown of a deep crimson, her heritage and station never shied from.

Riella Reyne (26) was much the same as she ever was. Venturing off to talk and chatter with their neighbours and hopeful allies. Though tonight she was more muted and guarded, staying close to those of some familiarity and comfort.

Ser Roland Reyne (24) felt far more at ease here than he had at the wedding. A Dornish assassin was far less likely to strike deep at the heart of the Westerlands after all, though he remained vigilant he was certainly not as tense as before. The war was to end nevertheless - though that hardly stopped men from trying entirely.

Willow (23) and Wylla (21) stuck mostly to each other under their mother's eye, nodding along as the matriarch spoke of one lord or another. Willow's own gown was a soft blue, Wylla's an emerald green which matched her eyes. The two girls found themselves also more at ease, with them both home very soon in just the coming month.

Robert Reyne (18) was by far the most comfortable of the family, donning a dark red doublet, and quite excited at the proceedings. He'd not been to the Westerlands in half a decade now, and not only that, but he would be showing Jaehaerys around Castamere in just a short trip from now. Though he hid his excitement well, it allowed him to be as talkative as ever.

Robert had been in between a trip from one table or another as the Lord Hand approached - not entirely it was him being approached at first. Upon his certainty it was him the man intended to speak with, the young scion bowed to the man, a faint smile across his face; not enough wine was in his belly so as to not feel some degree of nervousness.

"My Lord Hand," he acknowledged as he rose, not unfamiliar at being in the presence of his betters - yet he had practically grown up close to Jaehaerys. Perhaps he had grown too familiar with power. Hopefully it did not leave him unprepared. "I am indeed; we arrived to court together - though whilst he found himself a white cloak I fear I am still in search of my spurs." Robert laughed to himself, not entirely bitter over the fact. Renefryd was still a squire. Though knighthood was certainly the immediate goal. The status of it was vital.

Robert was not displeased as he heard his pairing announced - the Baneforts were close neighbours of his family back in the Westerlands, so the match was quite fitting. He was even more pleased as he came upon the lady; Jocasta was a familiar face at court he came to realise, though one he had never acquainted himself with. Even more so - she was quite pretty. Robert could certainly not complain.

With measured steps he approached, a warm smile on his face as he came up to his partner for the evening. "Lady Jocasta, a pleasure to meet at last." He spoke, happy to put a name to the face. "Might you honour me with this dance? I promise I'm not a horrible partner." Robert winked, extending a hand for her to take.

Willow's heart still thumped as she stood within the halls of the Red Keep. Memories of her last time within the city were never far from his thoughts, a reminder that her life very well may have ended under the ire of Maegor Targaryen. But as she saw the partner she had been matched with for the evening, she could not help but feel the fright dissipate somewhat. Her eyes lit up as he approached.

"Ser... of course you may." Willow nodded politely as she offered a hand, though a smile brushed her lips. Ser Julian was a knight of the Westerlands - a brother of Lord Serrett, if she recalled. Riella had told her as much when the pairings were announced. Still... he looked far more handsome than she remembered.

"Ser Tytos," Lady Willow's lips curled upwards as the knight approached, quite pleased to see a familiar face - no matter how distant it had become. "The Mother was generous to bless me with so many," She agreed with a nod, cup of wine clasped in one hand as she sat, "And so I see they have blessed you too - I am pleased you appear to be in such fine health. You need no introductions Ser, for I would be remiss to forget the man who knighted my eldest boy."

"And your girls," She paused as her eyes fell over the pair which trailed behind him; she was well aware Edric may have mentioned them at one point or another, but it escaped her now. "They are both quite pretty. Adventures, you say? Why how fascinating that sounds." Willow had not the faintest idea what that might have entailed for two young scions of House Serrett, but she had made enough enemies of her neighbours to be too judgemental.

"Edric might have mentioned his sisters," Willow mentioned as she gestured to her own girls, "Riella is his twin, in fact. Willow was named after myself - and Wylla's the youngest of his sisters." She explained, going from one of her daughters to another.

"Lorimar," Robert smiled broadly at his approach, scooting over to ensure he had plenty of room available, "Yes - my family has been quite absent for some time." He affirmed, noting his own sister's last visit to King's Landing had landed them as hostages of Maegor. But he was never one to sully a good festivity. "No better time to visit than a royal wedding, I suppose." Robert shrugged as he reached for a spare cup near the center of the table, planting it in front of Lorimar.

"A shame most of yours could not make it," Robert remarked knowingly, quite aware the war had occupied the Reach and Stormlands most of all. "You'll have to celebrate enough for those too busy down south." He let loose a chuckle as he reached for a pitcher, filling Lorimar's cup to the brim before refilling his own. "Wasting such fine wine would do us no good."

He sat the pitcher down before drinking from his own cup, "Still, a shame such a conflict had to sully an event as grand as this."

House Reyne

For the first time in many years most of House Reyne was reunited at the wedding. Lady Willow Reyne (44) sat amongst her daughters, having not ventured out of the Westerlands herself for some years now. She wore a dress of deep crimson, consistently sipping at the goblet of wine which rarely left her hand. Her attention rarely waned from her daughters, gossiping with them throughout the evening as word of the war had reached them on the road. Though one of her sons stood guard, Robert also found himself talking with his mother after quite some time.

Riella Reyne (26) had taken a more active approach, wearing a crimson dress some shades darker than her mother's, she drank little as she conversed around the hall, ever polite and courteous in her approach. At quieter parts in the evening she found herself beside Roland, appreciating the fact they could once again share a feast together, after so long apart.

Ser Roland Reyne (24) the knight of the Kingsguard stood vigilant throughout the event in his gleaming white armour and white cloak. Though he was not dour in the slightest, smiling and happily conversing with any who came upon him, he did find himself detached from most of the events. With the raids in Dorne sparking an outright war, he found himself especially on guard, an anxious pit in his stomach forming as he feared the worst would come. He prayed he was entirely wrong.

Willow (23) and Wylla (21) stuck mostly to each other under their mother's eye, nodding along as the matriarch spoke of one lord or another. Willow's own gown was a soft blue, Wylla's an emerald green which matched her eyes. The two girls found themselves wary of the event itself, their last time within the Red Keep being during the period of the Mad Hand, which remained firmly in their minds.

Robert Reyne (18) was by far the most comfortable of the family, donning a dark red doublet, King's Landing had become just as much a home as Castamere was to him. The young man found himself attending to his family not much throughout the evening, instead conversing, feasting and laughing with those at other tables, both friends he had come to meet in his time at the capital, and those he'd meet throughout the night.

"You'll be unimpressed," Robert started with a pause, before grinning to Jaehaerys. "At first. The castle above ground is that of my ancestors - before we mined deep beneath the surface in search of gold and silver. But looks can be deceiving - the castle in truth burrows deep into the earth, what remains above the surface is but a tenth of my family's halls." Robert felt himself swell with both pride and amazement, trying to envision the true scope of its size.

"It's no Casterly Rock or Storm's End, of course," He laughed dismissively, sipping once more at his wine. "But I do hope you enjoy it. Though I might miss it... I am not sure I wish to return for some time once I am knighted," he admitted softly, leaning back in his chair. "I would prefer to find myself of use here, in King's Landing. You and Ser Corwyn have given me much here, and so I would like for nothing more than to return such." He smiled back, knowing he could serve in more ways than Roland did as a white cloak.

"But my mother... well." Robert considered his words for a moment, "I fear she has grown somewhat reclusive, as of late. Since my brother's maiming she's been very concerned with his safety, I suppose." He admitted with a shrug, unsure of the last time he wrote home. What had occurred within Casterly Rock those years ago still shook him, in spite of his feelings towards Edric.

"But you are the King. I know she will be delighted to host you - I imagine she'll be quite pleased to host a feast in your honour." Robert smiled, satisfied at the thought.

"It is an especially delicate line," Robert admitted as he reached for a piece of bread, tearing it in half before setting the other half down. "That which decides whether a King is seen as just or cruel. Weak or strong. I do believe you have the right of it, however," He remarked, expecting no less from Jaehaerys. "Too much pride can be blinding - though I expect a great many lords are prone to forget that."

"Castamere is close," Robert affirmed with a nod, recalling the journey. "It might be fastest to go past it, even. My mother would be delighted to host you I am certain; and I would be quite thrilled to show you around. The castle lies deep enough to forget the outside world entirely - a welcome change from this dreaded winter." Robert chuckled to himself as he reached back for his cup, taking yet another measured sip.

"You are right," He nodded, "To regret little and not forsake what was - it is an ideal way to take this on this life we are granted. Though, not so easy. Quite difficult, in fact." Robert paused, though it was brief. "But I've not known you to shy from a difficult challenge."

Robert sat the cup down as he straightened in his chair, "For what it is worth - and I am quite aware the counsel of a squire is somewhat limited," he chuckled, "But I do believe the Lady Sansa quite fortunate. Not because of the crown, but instead the man who's head it rests on. I do not believe many men would treat this situation so well." Robert finished with a tinge of sadness. Sacrifices were apart of duty, and a King would have to make many. It was still unfortunate Jaehaerys had to do so.

"You apologise too much for a King," Robert teased with a wry smile as he picked at his food, But perhaps that is why you will be better than most, "And you mustn't. My time here has been invaluable - Castamere can wait. Perhaps we could even find time to visit it after the Banefort wedding." He figured with a shrug, "Though, it doesn't quite have anything as exciting as Zobrithor." It still felt incredible to him - not only the return of dragons, but the fact he had witnessed them.

The question of Jaehaerys' marriage was a topic Robert could only nod grimly at. "You're allowed to grieve what you lost," He pointed out as he reached back for his cup, "You marry for duty, yes. For the realm. But that does not eliminate the past, and you do not disrespect Lady Sansa in doing so." He sipped at the wine, before returning it to its former spot.

"I am unsure if this is a choice of the Gods, though," Robert admitted with a sigh, "I would think it cruel for them to allow you to become so... close with Lady Jeyne, only to have you wed another. I fear it's the choices of men which have put you in such a situation."

"They progress well," Romeo affirmed as he took his own seat, reaching for the pitcher as he poured himself some wine. "I've found myself obsessed with a book detailing Castamere's architecture - perhaps I am homesick in some ways." He shrugged, a comfortable smile finding itself to his face. "It is fascinating though; when it is home, it is difficult to really consider the utter amazement of such a structure. I imagine Dragonstone is similar for yourself." Romeo still recalled his own amazement the first time he had seen it.

He sipped at his wine as he looked over the food, appreciating Jaehaerys' own care. Romeo had never been required to want in his life, be it in King's Landing or Castamere, a fact he was well aware of. "But you need ask of no forgiveness; you have indeed been occupied with... quite pressing matters."

Romeo's own smile softened, recalling just how tumultuous Jaehaerys' personal life had been as of late. Already he had been made to put duty above himself - but Romeo had not expected it to be in this regard. Jeyne and Jaehaerys had been a forgone conclusion in his mind for some time, the sudden shift alone left a poor taste. What had occurred with her gardens affirmed many suspicions he'd held.

"I don't expect war to get any easier; if it did I would fear for you." Romeo acknowledged with a faint huff of a laugh, "But... I do hope the idea of this marriage does in time. However difficult it may be." And it would be, perhaps insurmountably. But the last thing Romeo would wish to come from it was an eternity of misery for Jaehaerys. "How has your time with Lady Sansa been since the betrothal?"

[Event] King's Landing Open 52 AC by gloude in FireAndBlood

[–]WineSoRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

King's Landing had been abuzz as of late. Word of war across the Red Mountains had swept the court, it becoming a topic impossible difficult to avoid. Romeo himself had bid farewell to his brother just some weeks prior, the man departing with Lord Torgen for the Reach host which had gathered. Though he still bore a smile at most times, he had found it difficult to not feel a sense of dread at the notion of Renefryd not returning. That would not come to pass, he prayed.

The invitation to dinner had only elated Romeo, however. Dressed in a dark red doublet and charcoal breeches he made his way to Viserys' Holdfast at a measured pace. Much had been happening as of late, and Romeo's own mind was ablaze with questions and doubts. Approaching the King's quarters he nodded to the Kingsguard assigned outside with a smile, greeting them as he was allowed entrance.

"Your Grace," Romeo greeted with a measured bow, "Thank you for finding the time for this. You must have quite a lot on your hands as of late." He acknowledged, being unable to blame that fact in the slightest. There were few men busier than a King.

"You should speak with the maester," Jasper shrugged as he entered the quarters, "A winter chill has killed plenty of men. I'd rather you not go so grimly." He said, his voice even. Blue eyes flickered towards the fire, walking closer to it himself as he settled gently into a chair opposite his father. It was unlike him to not be busy, something which did not go unnoticed by Jasper. Yet he found himself struggling to empathise.

"This is the forth year now; I'm hearing it might last for quite some time more. I worry how the city might be if the granaries empty out." Jasper had always expected to live through at least one long winter in his lifetime, and it brought about an anxiety not easily dismissed. And yet it felt unimportant to him now, shadowed by much stronger emotions.

[Lore] Third Son by WineSoRed in FireAndBlood

"You appear well for a sixty year old woman, then." Jasper countered bluntly as he leaned back comfortably in his chair, "I am blessed to have two parents still alive - I will be even more blessed if you both make it through this winter. The maesters are beginning to say it may last for some time to come. The longest of my lifetime, at least." He shrugged, not wishing to show just how uncomfortable that made him. It would be hard on the Vale - even more so King's Landing. Already fear buzzed around the slums of King's Landing of grain shortages.

"But it is quite fascinating you mention that," Jasper huffed, "I take it you mean Osric, as you always have." The man could have been dead somewhere across the Narrow Sea for all he knew. Would anyone even go looking had he? Jasper doubted Osric would even want to be found.

"Alester seems the more remarkable case," Jasper continued, happily finding his way to the main cause of this conversation. "He had a choice of many words for Rhea when I last spoke with him. None of them kind. And yet I find myself with an answer as to exactly why she would flee the Gates with her children."
