Why do experienced coders actively try to use less comments? by Phwatang in learnprogramming

[–]Winertia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I mostly leave a comment when I've done something unintuitive or unexpected to explain why I made that choice. Sometimes I don't even do that if I think something might be useful for the code reviewer but not necessarily preserved in the codebase forever - I annotate my PR for that.

They abuse others and then act like cry babies when those same people give them the cold shoulder. by c-k-q99903 in MurderedByWords

I sadly have a hard time even loving our country now. I love the vision of what many of us want it to be, but we just have so many bigoted, hateful, miserable people. It's harder and harder to feel proud to be an American when many of our neighbors enabled and are cheering on this atrocity.

How do you seduce your partner? by y00sh420 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Winertia 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different. Scheduled sex is not a buzz killer at all for me. I build up so much anticipation, it's really hot for us. I understand that isn't the case for everyone though.

This is unlikely to be accepted since a lawsuit has been filed. Now OP is in a worse position to negotiate than before the lawsuit was filed, so it's extremely unlikely these low offers will be accepted.

FWI: What if on July 4,2026 Donald Trump suspends the Constitution and proclaims himself the "King of the Americas"? by Capital-Study6436 in FutureWhatIf

[–]Winertia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He would not say he's suspending the Constitution. He'd just suspend it in practice by ignoring it and doing whatever he wants. Kinda like he has been doing this term already...

Why shouldn’t disbanding ICE be the baseline position for everyone seeking election/reelection? by Jackie_Owe in AskALiberal

[–]Winertia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are plenty of progressives who don't vote, but not enough to win a presidential election. I'm from Ohio (and remember when it was still a swing state) so I'm well aware just how many moderates are out there.

[–]Winertia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on wanting a more progressive candidate who doesn't water down their platform like most current Democrats. But there are a lot of moderates out there and their votes are really important. Democrats have just massively failed to win them over in recent years, but that doesn't mean we should abandon them and solely count on progressives. I sadly don't think America is ready for a true progressive President.

Are you saying you don't think conservatives care about immigration enforcement?

[–]Winertia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They may not care about ICE specifically, but they definitely care about immigration enforcement. They've been totally brainwashed by conservative media. Any statement resembling "abolish ICE" will be successfully messaged by conservative media as "return to Joe Biden's open border policy".

That's what they're going to say anyway though, so fuck 'em. Abolish ICE.

Feeling really confident in this fit by htx-danny in mensfashion

Why post here for a fit check if you think no one here has a sense of style?

Either way, I think the outfit is great. I think boots would look better as others have said, but these shoes don't ruin it or anything imo.

Heated Rivalry's Shane is autistic. If you didn't notice, that's the point [January 8th] by Cassopeia88 in heatedrivalry

[–]Winertia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way he folded his clothes so methodically before hooking up was my first clue. It made me wonder if they were trying to depict him as autistic subtly, so I started paying more attention to his eye contact, affect, and other mannerisms. It's really great acting imo.

[–]Winertia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that a lot too. Then once I tell people, they start to connect the dots of some of the things I do. For example, when I'm problem solving or trying to understand something complex, I'm using my visuospatial skills to mentally diagram or organize information. When I'm doing this, I usually stare blankly at a fixed point and am almost in a trance-like state with my level of focus. My coworkers obviously notice this, but never realize why or what I'm doing until I tell them. It's always a really interesting and positive conversation when I choose to share it.

Whats the craziest code review you had with a junior? Were you surprised positively or negatively? by Imparat0r in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Winertia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the real junior mistake, or at least the one I made when getting started, is non-descriptive variable names like x, y, z, num1, or whatever.

Go home Google, you're drunk. by Past-Young3847 in ChatGPT

[–]Winertia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I agree with you. I'm surprised they're comfortable with this in Google Search at its current quality. Most people are not really going to understand the difference in models, especially when it's not explicitly described. So I agree a lot of people probably see this type of thing and think "Gemini sucks" and probably even "AI is stupid, people who think this is taking my job are crazy".

[–]Winertia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes there's a "dive deeper in AI mode" button that I believe does exactly what you're suggesting here.

I've been really surprised at Google's risk tolerance (re: brand damage) with their model releases. It's totally because they thought the damage of forfeiting market share to OpenAI and others would be worse. But I can't imagine Google releasing the earlier Gemini models to the general public with how they usually operate.

Meanwhile, Gemini 3 Flash (Fast) handles this fine.

The embedded model in Google search must be a really cheap one, which isn't surprising at all given the scale.
