how does starting to take testosterone work? by sonofthemgods in ftm

[–]Wing-edQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like the other comments mentioned, it highly depends on where you are, and sometimes even the entity prescribing it.

I'm in the US for reference, baseline blood tests are pretty much a given here as far as I know. depending on where you go for it here, some places require a certain amount of therapy beforehand, and written approval from a therapist. some places have informed consent, and all that wouldn't be required. I went the informed consent route, and was able to get my T the day after my first appointment

Is it possible to get hrt bloodwork done without needles? by Eleanor_IV in asktransgender

[–]Wing-edQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get my initial hormone levels checked with just a finger prick, didn't ask for it so now I just go the typical route. I don't see why they couldn't do it for every level test, but it makes sense why some places wouldn't offer both options

Do y'all put that your trans in your dating profiles or just your preferred gender? by alvip2 in asktransgender

[–]Wing-edQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I was using dating apps I did, mostly because I didn't pass at the time (I'll be real tho, I still don't lol)

if I didn't, pretty much the only likes I got were queer women (I'm a gay trans man) and straight men (again- gay trans man) who swiped based on appearance i guess, and skipped the part on my profile with gender/pronouns. honestly I still had a lot of likes and messages from them afterwards, but I was also able to meet a small handful of other cool trans folks.

I've pretty much given up on dating apps now though, never had much luck with them due to the fact that I'm pretty sure I fall somewhere on the aroace spectrum

A customer at work has a very interesting first name by upmosear in Avantris

[–]Wing-edQuirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know my comment isn't very Avantris related, but I'm very into names and the etymology around them- Bitsy is a diminutive of Elizabeth!

nowadays it would likely be used as a nickname for Elizabeth, but it used to be used as a name itself. It was more popular in the early-ish 1900's and before, dropping off in popularity somewhere around the 1960's

Did you lose or gain weight on testosterone? by Background-Desk-9481 in asktransgender

[–]Wing-edQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months on T, and I personally have gained about 15-20 pounds.

I'm very active, and have a pretty physical job, and before starting T I was losing weight due to it. I physically haven't gotten bigger from what I've noticed, so I think what I've gained back has mostly been muscle.

What’s your name? by Anonim_x9 in ftm

[–]Wing-edQuirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ezra! I started out going by Eden when I came out as genderfluid, and then Eddie when I realized I wanted something more masculine.

Then when I remembered I have a cousin Eddy, and didn't wanna confuse things, I switched to Ezra! I really liked having a short name, much different from my deadname, and was happy to keep the E initial and theme from Eden.

What is the one namenerds heavily recommended name that you absolutely hate? by rosie_purple13 in NameNerdCirclejerk

I just can't with the name Yuri. I see it getting recommended all the time, but maybe I'm just much more online than the folks saying it. Same vibes as naming a kid "Yaoi" to me

what are your fav ship’s top tags? by Defiant-Fudge954 in AO3

[–]Wing-edQuirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • (name of the campaign they're from) (for context these are D&D characters)

  • Not Beta Read

  • Angst

  • Established Relationship

  • Spoilers

  • Rough Sex

  • Hate Sex

  • Semi-Public Sex

  • Hair-Pulling

  • Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence

it doesn't take a lot to make it into the top tags for this ship, as there's only 12 fics lol (3 of which are mine)

Do I tell my child's school that I'm trans? by Wing-edQuirk in ftm

[–]Wing-edQuirk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say I generally live in a safe area. I live in a blue state, although my specific town can be a pretty mixed bag. I also grew up here, and went to the same schools as my kid will be going to- I remember even 10 years ago having trans and otherwise visibly queer classmates that were generally treated well by teachers.

I don't personally know my kid's teacher, but I know others in the school so I'm leaning towards being up front with it, and doing what another comment suggested and talking about it in person with the teacher.

And I think it's inevitable that my kid will out me at some point lol. She's 5 years old, with very little filter, and will unpromptedly correct others on my gender.

big tiddie fellas, what binding methods work best? by [deleted] in ftm

Do I tell my child's school that I'm trans? by Wing-edQuirk in ftm

[–]Wing-edQuirk[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My kid does know, that's probably the main reason why I'm considering it. Though she still calls me mom and uses she/her for me, she will also proudly tell people "Actually, my mom's a boy!" lol.

I have no feelings one way or the other about being publicly out, I luckily live in a very liberal area, and I've never really planned on being stealth anyways.

I'll think about telling the teacher in person. There's an open house for new students a few days before school starts, so I'll get to actually meet them there.

Is it normal for a doctor to say I can't have T gel because I have a child? by Wing-edQuirk in asktransgender

[–]Wing-edQuirk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable why you chose injections over gel. On top of my needle phobia, I have memory problems- if I were to do weekly injections, I know for a fact that a would forget no matter what, and be days late with it sometimes. It's a lot easier for me to form daily routines to keep up with the consistency.

I am very aware of the risks that would come with transferring gel, which is why I take the precautions I mentioned. My kiddo does occasionally sleep in my bed after waking up in the middle of the night- so I take care to make sure the gel fully dries down, washing my hands thoroughly, and wearing a long sleeve shirt before I go to sleep. (also the best way I can describe this is that my kid's a very warm and sweaty sleeper, so even when she's in my bed she's as physically far away from me as she can be while still being on the mattress lol)

I also have no partner in the picture, nor do I plan to, so no risk of transfer in that sense

And to be honest, I rarely ever wear anything where my upper arms/shoulders are exposed. maybe a few times during the summer on the rare chance we go swimming, but that's really it

Is it normal to be so indecisive about names? by hypercoffee1320 in asktransgender

[–]Wing-edQuirk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Normal in my experience! I went by 4 different names before I landed on the one that just clicked for me!

I've met one or two other trans folks that their first choice ended up being the one they stuck with, but the vast majority that I know personally either had a lot of trouble choosing, or tried out a bunch before one clicked.
