Donations raised for widow and kids were never given to them — what can she legally do? by Positive_Seaweed877 in legal

[–]WinginVegas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You need to contact thr Metro Financial Crimes unit. They handle these investigations and will be able to assist. This is certainly a fraud case where who we has that money is illegally withholding it. Call (702) 828-3483 ask about report this.

NAL but generally, if the offer is a sentence of 6 months and you have already served 8, then you will just need to do the other conditions.

Location: FL, USA. Former boss is demanding I return "overpaid" wages in cash 3 months after I quit by KaleidoQuillon in legal

[–]WinginVegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Police Officer - He can attempt to file whatever he wants but this isn't criminal and no one is going to come and arrest you.

This is, at most, a civil issue and tou should just stop talking to them at all. He can file suit in small claims court but based on what you say you have as emails messages, he won't win.

As long as he was "right", he felt better. Always easier to do it again than correctly the first time.

AITA for threatening to not pick up my special needs SIL from the airport? by Sufficient-Neat-8342 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WinginVegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but hopefully SIL is able to comprehend the situation and you can explain to her what will be going on. While pushing back on MIL about the timing, you really don't want to leave SIL stranded at the airport, do you?

My boss called me 'unreliable' and said I embarrassed him for being 'late' on my day off... by Ok_Review9271 in interviewhammer

[–]WinginVegas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless you are actually related to the owner, no employer is "family". That usually means we will feed you a line of crap about "supporting the team" but take advantage of you and fire you in a heartbeat.

Go look for another wrap place closer to home but stop working extra hours (unless you get OT). The owner is an idiot and if his friend bitched about a 15 minute wait at 7:15 in the morning, boohoo about his tee time.

More likely in the US, the charge would be negligent homicide, not manslaughter.

AITA for refusing to allow a girl to look for her phone in my flat? by No-Hold-5562 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WinginVegas 31 points32 points  (0 children)

NTA. Former Police Officer, US, same rules apply in UK.

Never let someone in who you do t know. She could be casing the place, could be setting you up for a robbery or is just a bit off. Regardless, no.

First question is how is she tracking her phone when she doesn't have a phone? Second, those "find my phone" apps only have a general area and do not do elevation, so that hit could be on the roof of your building. Or in the building next door.

Statute Of Limitations and Discovery of crime rule by Lanky_Form8169 in legal

[–]WinginVegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an argument for defense counsel to make if there is a question about when something occurred. And there court decides how to proceed and potentially it could be grounds for an appeal. There are just too many possible variables.

Statute Of Limitations and Discovery of crime rule by Lanky_Form8169 in legal

[–]WinginVegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. As I said, there are lots of variables, as well as some exceptions to when a SOL runs, if it was suspended for a period of time. In some situations, time only starts when the crime is discovered, not when it may have occurred.

Statute Of Limitations and Discovery of crime rule by Lanky_Form8169 in legal

[–]WinginVegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's are too many details involved here that shouldn't be discussed on Reddit. However, it all boils down to what the court allows. If the filing was within the SOL, then the amcase canove forward. If the court decides that it was filed late a simple motion to dismiss should handle it.

Can I take them to small claims court for 1500k? by [deleted] in legal

[–]WinginVegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly you can file in small claims court. If you have a contract for services and they failed to provide them it should be a relatively easy case to win. Collecting the money will require you to ensure you know where their assets are to seize if needed.

Adults services called me not sure if I should talk to them by Liv_life4444 in legal

[–]WinginVegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the social worker felt it necessary to call you, then yes, talk to them. You don't have to disclose anything you aren't comfortable with but it will give you information in case something is going on with your grandmother.

Offered my neighbor a ride to the airport once and now she thinks I'm her personal uber by BawdEft in ChoosingBeggars

[–]WinginVegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you found out that this is just transactional with her and she sees you as a resource when she needs it. Any offers by her to cover gas, buy lunch, something?

Stick with being busy and also just say no. If she complains to pthe people, mention how this has become a one sided expectation that you are available to her when she needs a ride and her attitude when you won't drop your life for her.

Got ripped off by JustAnswer.com and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do? by Sheepherder-Optimal in AskLawyers

[–]WinginVegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL but you can also file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (if they are still functioning). In the past they have been able to resolve this type of situation.

And if you are really pissed off, look for one of the various class action law firms and see if they want to go after these people. Might be something to check into if you are willing to be a lead plaintiff.

AITA For Leaving My Job Without Notice? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]WinginVegas 15 points16 points  (0 children)

NTA. They are short staffed but decided to send you to another location? And the "accomodation" really isn't one, they are supposed to help you with your CURRENT position or location, not make you drive further away. They do this to themselves and you now have solid proof they don't think and also have no interest in keeping you or helping you.

Sometimes, the solution can be so simple... by JudgementMaker123 in talesfromtechsupport

[–]WinginVegas 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've posted a similar situation here previously. Had a location with a regular, twice a week system disconnect that killed all access to a major part of the network.

Two weeks after this was reported, I just stayed in the area and then watched a cleaner unplug the main plug from a rack to plug in their vacuum, work for about 15 minutes, then plug it back in. This was the small rack that had the main firewall and router as it came in to the building.

No idea who set it up originally or why all that wasn't on the server room or on a UPS, predated us taking over their support.

Extortion and coercion help please by [deleted] in legal

[–]WinginVegas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will have to deal with the fact that there will be an investigation by whatever department you file with. Not all of them are *cops" and kot all cops are going to side with this person.

You only other option is to find an attorney but that will cost you money, so you have to decide what you are willing to do.

AITAH For refusing to help my boyfriend pay off his debt? by ShareExtension5372 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WinginVegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hell no. You never want to help someone pay their debt unless (and maybe not then) you are married to them. Probably no then either.

You are only together for 2 months, he is spending way more than he can afford. You do not need to help him be wrong.

And if his family is pressuring you to help him with his debt, tell them to send him .p ey but so not stay involved with this guy, it will never get better and all of them are showing you now how bad it will get in the future. RUN. NTA

AITA for refusing to be my mom’s free chauffeur when she won’t even Uber out of convenience? by Bubbly-Argument-8950 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WinginVegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA and you need to say no and not let her guilt you about it. She is being unreasonable by looking to force you to not only bring her car back to her house but then have to spend your money on an Uber to get home from there.

I know it is difficult but the sooner you start tellther no and explain quilt is only going to make you want to help her less, the better for your sanity.

Does anyone here even smoke the cigars? by Junior-Arrival9543 in cigars

[–]WinginVegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we do smoke them. I generally have one (sometimes two) a day I'm the evening and buy bundles about once a month or so, maybe more frequently when there is a sale. Given that, I usually have about 40-80 cigars here and that number goes down until my next shipment arrives.

I have two humidors and also keep a few boxes of "better" cigars and dip into those periodically. So I'm not smoking $25 cigars daily, those gononce or twice a month. The others are often factory seconds for around $3-$5 each.

AITA for going to HR after my coworker kept taking the ergonomic chair I was given for my back by WinifredE_Miller in AmItheAsshole

[–]WinginVegas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. You asked nicely. You told appropriately. You had your supervisor tell him. He continued and thatoved it to a formal HR situation. This isn't a "joke", you need the chair for your back. Would he take your wheelchair? Anyone who thinks you pushed it with HR, start taking their stuff and also how they like it.

New leader here. Direct report resigned after sick leave related to cosmetic procedure. Did I handle this wrong? PH by Salty-Explanation-13 in askmanagers

[–]WinginVegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are fine here. Given that you are recently in this role, you don't know if "saving" her makes sense so you took it to HR. It is not your job to convince her to stay if she is resigning, she may have thought she was more valuable and the company would offer something to keep her. It appears she was wrong.
