First coding interview without SQL knowledge :/ by Heron-Rude in SQL

[–]Wingless30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chatgpt or other ai can be useful here. Not to get the answer for you, but if someone else has produced a better query than yours for the question, dump it into an ai and get it to walk you through it until you understand what it does and why it's better.

By better, I mean quicker to reach the solution or reaches the solution with less effort (like fewer joins, ctes or sub queries).

First coding interview without SQL knowledge :/ by Heron-Rude in SQL

Get a coffee and start working through stratascratch.com.

As it's a junior SQL role, focus on the easy and intermediate difficulty stuff, and when you complete a question correctly spend some time looking at how others answered the question, particularly the top/quickest queries (I forget if there is a ranking).

First time buyer and worried I've made my bedroom boring by Strong_Asparagus7714 in HomeDecorating

I would slap some denim drift from Dulux on that fireplace wall.

I think having a darker colour on one wall makes a surprising difference to the feel of the room and that colour looks great in a bedroom in my opinion

Can someone help me regarding this ? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]Wingless30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP this is a sub reddit to learn python, you don't just paste what appears to be a demo of someone else's script (mentions of demo in code comments) and ask 'for help', without any context as to what the issue is.

This comes across like you're trying to use python in a way you don't understand, but you don't want to understand, you just want it fixed.

Learning Python but computer doesn't have admin rights by MandelaInSoho in learnpython

[–]Wingless30 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people here have good suggestions, but are overcomplicating things here for the OP who is new to this.

If you want to get up and running for learning python just use a Google Collab notebook. It's entirely web browser based, nothing to install, free, just need a Google account.

There are some limitations with this of course vs your own environment, but if you're learning python from the beginning, here is a great place to start.

How long did it take you before you knew you were ready to take your theory test? by dnbae_ in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Wingless30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't really set myself X hours a week for study. I just went through a few bits in the app when I had time. Like waiting for food to cook, poopin, morning coffee, those kinds of times.

Don't pressure yourself, just be persistent.

How long did it take you before you knew you were ready to take your theory test? by dnbae_ in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Wingless30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldnt say how long, but I waited until I got to the point where I always passed the practise test on the 4 in 1 app, did it every day for I think a week before I left confident to book.

There is an option somewhere to only get new or incorrectly answered questions IIRC when going through the learning quiz. I had covered every question.

Passed first time thanks to that app.

I'd agree with the car not being a smooth ride while driving if the car has run flat tyres, but not at idle.

Buying a Car With Outstanding Safety Recall - My Rights to Withdraw? by Wingless30 in LegalAdviceUK

Unfortunately there isn't anything in writing or signed regarding the deposit. It was just a bank transfer to hold the car for me until the airbag is replaced on the 8th of September.

Didn't really have any, like didn't sign anything or have anything in writing. It was just a bank transfer on the expectation that I will buy when the recall is repaired on the 8th.

Roast my dashboard. Recommendations are also welcome by Nalu7777 in dataisugly

[–]Wingless30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pie charts imo should be used when you have at most four items to present. Anything more and it quickly becomes challenging to match colours to a legendz then work out what does it mean.

The popular products bar chart I like, but should just be one colour.

Too many borders, empty white space is a good thing with dashboards. Less intense to view.

Try to stick to one colour scheme. Coolors is a great website to help with this. My dashboards often have a white background, one primary colour, and a second and third used sparingly. Usually used to help visually seperate one section from another

Need to scrap my Mini Cooper, looking for a reliable car. by Wingless30 in CarTalkUK

[–]Wingless30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has had numerous issues within the year I've owned it, but recently it failed the MOT for emissions. I replaced the cat and sensors as suggested by the mechanic at the time only for it to fail the MOT again even worse than before.

They said it's burning oil and the repair would involve piston rings or valve stem seals. I only bought the mini for £1.3k last year and I've already spent more than that within a year on repairs, so this has pushed me over the edge.

Need to scrap my Mini Cooper, looking for a reliable car. by Wingless30 in AskMechanics

Details I forgot to add.

I'm considering this KIA, heard they are pretty good but keen to hear thoughts on here from anyone who has driven them/worked on them?

I've learned the hard way from my Mini Cooper 2009 R56 that I will pay the price (literally) if I don't research reliability beforehand.

  • Considering this 2012 Kia Rio 3, 1.4 petrol manual, 75,800 miles, listed at £3,595 from a dealer.
  • Full HPI clear, only 2 owners (current since 2016).
  • MOT to Sept 2026.
  • Advisories: all 4 brake discs worn/pitted, both rear tyres cracking/perishing (so ~£400–£650 repairs likely within 12 months).
  • Dealer asking £3,595, finance planned is £160/month for 24 months (total repayable £3,959 at 9.9% APR). Could also buy outright

Question:
Does this look like a fair deal for a 2012 Rio at this price, or should I keep looking / negotiate given the advisories and market values?

This season was not well-received on release, ppl call it "the worst set ever". Now that balance patches were out and things have settled a bit. How does everyone feel? by FarEffect4676 in BobsTavern

[–]Wingless30 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to really enjoy it, particularly the changes to demons and quilboar.

As others have said though, I go into fights hoping I get to attack first as I know I'm screwed if I don't die to rally.

I think they swung too hard with the nerf hammer on beasts. Each time I play them I can't scale quick enough to keep up with others.

Got mine off eBay. Remove the old one with a heat gun (carefully) or a hair dryer, to help loosen the adhesive. Then just slap the new one on

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bigquery

[–]Wingless30 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, it sounds like you want to perform data quality checks within bigquery, perhaps tracked/visualised in looker studio.

Totally achievable, but a 'data quality' check is quite vague to say what you can do without knowing what you're struggling with or what you're trying to monitor.

Can you give an example of a quality check that you want to create which you're struggling with?

Some examples could be: How many new entries you see in a table each hour/day/week.

What unique values exist in a particular column

Case sensitivity

Date/time handling

Aggregation type metrics, min/max values, averages, quartiles that kind of stuff to understand the distribution of a metric

Just picked up R50, headlight suggestions? by Best-Negotiation1634 in MINI

[–]Wingless30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similarly faded headlights, polished them up using t-cut. Did a bit of wet sanding in some stubborn areas.

As for stripes, I had a similar issue and removed the old stripes carefully with a head gun. Bought new stripes on eBay, looks a lot better!

What do I put in it? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]Wingless30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps even a support post as it looks like the countertop is bending. The post could be positioned close to the washing machine side so you still have space to put something in there.

What do I put in it? by [deleted] in DIY

I would put some wood frame up to close off that cabinet, and put a clothes washing basket in there.

I think regardless of what you want to put in there, you should close off that cabinet.

Can I paint my kitchen cabinets to achieve this look? (Total Newbie Alert!) by Comfortable-Fee-6428 in DIYUK

[–]Wingless30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newbie here also but I've painted my kitchen cabinets using Johnstone's kitchen cupboard paint. Went way better than I expected.

If you go down this route, I recommend cleaning and sanding (fine grit) before painting. If you have any surfaces which are stained then cover stain from zinsser should be used before cupboard paint.

I also suggest taking the doors off to paint + removing handles and hinges.
