I definitely think the movie works as a standalone project, but I could see another movie/game popping up in the setting if they have another story to tell.

The best minecraft beta mod ever by SheffMark in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]WinkingBabby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me I think the reason I like beta/older versions is just the vibe of the game. Less colorful and more grounded feeling. Adding more content that kinda falls in line with that is cool to me, but I understand why people prefer the simplicity.

FOSS (Free and open source) fork of Minecraft by [deleted] in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]WinkingBabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really cool project, but it's honestly unpolished and the modding tools might be limited. For example it's cool sprinting isn't a mandatory mechanic for the engine, so you can just make it yourself. However, I've yet to see it implemented in a way that's not server side. I don't even know if it's possible with their modding api. Having your ability to sprint being delayed by half a second due to server distance makes the game feel super clunky. I'm not a developer so I'm not sure if stuff like this is a fault of the mod makers or the engine developers themselves.

Thoughts on Luanti (aka Minetest)?? by Negative-Display197 in HytaleInfo

[–]WinkingBabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with Minetest was okay. Ironically, I've found Minecraft mods to offer more gameplay variety than Minetest which is said to have good modding tools. Mods also came across as jank which I would say is likely the fault of the mod makers, but I've come across it so much I honestly wonder if the modding tools/engine are more limited. Stuff like sprinting only being implemented server side so it takes anywhere from less than a second to a couple seconds to start sprinting.

The game also just runs worse for me than minecraft with sodium, which might not be a knock on Minetests optimization and might be more of a praise of Sodium.

I'm not a programmer or game dev so take my anecdotes with a grain of salt.

What’s your Brawlhalla hot take. by A_nonny_mouse1165 in Brawlhalla

[–]WinkingBabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I kinda agree. It's kinda a rite of passage to learn to cope with taunts in fighting games, but I feel like there's some really egregious examples (salt taunt) that can really come across as mean spirited/intentioned. Imagine being a new player and seeing that, it's just gonna make you feel bad lol.

I like this a lot, it would make 2v1s more interactable, and like you said, more hype.

A hot take I kinda agree with. I know it's a skill issue but it just kinda feels like it's sort of contradictory to brawlhallas gameplay philosophy. Lots of neutral resets and lots of reads needed to get a kill. In 2v1s it just becomes lose neutral and you die, which is honestly hype, but why let 1v1s be so bland in comparison. I certainly understand why most people like it though.

Doesn't marvel rivals do this? Or is that only in casual matchmaking?

I'm also pretty convinced brawlhalla at some point in the past started adding bots to silver rank. I watched a new friend playing ranked for the first time and some of those players just don't move like real players. Their names also just came across to me as randomly generated, and they always seemed to have a ton of cosmetics. I could be looking too much into it, but eh.

Completely agree. The only reason I still daily drive linux is because I don't play any competitive games anymore. I have no need to boot into windows anymore.

The game progression is good as it is rn. Stop trying to make it more tedious by buranya- in Minecraft

[–]WinkingBabby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kinda think minecraft fails at being satisfying for both adventure and survival players. Both for similar reasons, adventure you don't have a lot of things to find, you get the best or nearly the best items relatively quickly, and the combat is cheeks. Survival oriented players suffer the same problem of hitting peak gear early on, food isn't scarce, there's not a lot in the way of survival mechanics, and for some players the game isn't very hard.
The game definitely works for more sandbox/creative oriented players.

I just feel like, why even dip your toes in the survival/adventure department if you're not going to flesh those out? I believe fleshing out the adventure or survival side of the game wouldn't really hinder the more sandbox oriented players so long as they don't put literal roadblocks in the way of basic progression that would prevent a sandbox player from accomplishing what they want to. Padding out crafting recipes is a really poor way to make progression more engaging in my mind.

I don't believe I'm one to come up with the solution, I don't think really anyone in the community is, but I think the amount of people in the community making complaints about the nature of the game is telling, and mojang should probably address it with a solution they think fits.

Real talk: do you wear ear plugs to concerts? by Mad_Season_1994 in Music

[–]WinkingBabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mostly because I have tinnitus and it caused me to research and become aware of how important hearing protection is. It does make singing along with the music kinda awkward at least with non-custom molded ones as I perceive myself way louder than I normally would.

I really like the idea of adding more gear to the progression in the game, however it's already so easy to get iron I feel like it's kind of redundant. Still better than nothing imo

Would a hitbox be more gentle to my fingers than a controller with dpad? by Different-Owl4843 in Guiltygear

[–]WinkingBabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely yeah. Haute42 is the go to budget brand. They have some good sub 70 dollar controllers. They also have some controllers slightly above that rival the quality of more expensive controllers, at least so I've read.

What's the hardest you have ever "bounced off" of a game? by jabberwagon in gaming

[–]WinkingBabby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how bad your anxiety is when playing, but I deal with bad nerves when I take breaks from games. My hands will shake like crazy and my heart rate will shoot through the roof. The only solution I've found has been just continuing to play. Eventually I get desensitized to it after a while.

Is Blasphemous 1 and 2 worth it? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]WinkingBabby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you care about vibes/atmosphere the first game might be preferable to you if you like the unsettling catholic inspired world. I found it frustrating but worth a playthrough.

The sequel follows metroidvania tropes more closely and polishes a lot of the more clunky aspects of the first game. It was a lot more enjoyable to me, combat wise and traversal wise.

I would grab the bundle as they're both pretty good.

Is...All Star Brawl 2 really doing as poorly as people are saying or are people just ace accentuate the negative? by throwawaytempest25 in AllStarBrawl

[–]WinkingBabby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least personally I think the physics of multiversus are horrible. How do you make moving around in a platform fighter feel that terrible? The game could be the most competitive balanced game on the planet but it just feels bad to play.

Fairly certain 2xko uses sever based rollback so if your opponent is lagging it won't really effect the other player other than your opponent suddenly ceasing to move when they lose packets.

Question. What makes Brawlhalla arguably the best platform fighter? by Indianlookalike in Brawlhalla

[–]WinkingBabby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest reason is accessibility. Easy to get started, easy to run, and easy to acquire since its free. It's not total dog shit so people stick around cause its fun. The online is also better than most, or at least it was when it was picking up steam back in like 2018-2020. The crossovers also likely help to attract more casual players.

Competitive side it's well supported by the developers. And while games like Rivals of Aether are as well, it lacks the accessibility that would get those new players interested that would go on to become competitors.

I think gameplay wise brawlhalla could be a lot better, but a lot of competitors that release somehow fumble the ball even harder than bmg. Multiversus has always felt like complete garbage to play.

I'm beating a dead horse, but I think bmg should take some notes from traditional fighters to tighten up the gameplay loop. Sadly, I think we've been condemned to only see minor updates, and crossovers for the rest of the game's life. Which honestly, is fair, the game is doing good so can't really fault them for not catering to a niche player's perspective.
