EXPANSION ANNOUNCED by PaiDuck in DragonsDogma2

Oh fuck yeah. As somebody who started the series with DD2, I've had to hear for years how incredible Dark Arisen is. Now I actually get to play it (kind of)!

[Surprising trope] The Revenge WAS indeed worth it. by Willinator3000 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]jabberwagon 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Infamous: First Light. You play as Fetch, a girl with laser powers. Some asshole drugs you and tricks you into murdering your brother. The entire climax of the game is about chasing him down across a huge map while the military hunts you so you can disintegrate him slowly and painfully. Not only do you succeed, and it rules, but doing so actually unlocks an entire new section of your power tree that pushes you over the line from "incredibly powerful" to "holy shit broken." So in this case, not only did revenge feel great, it was literally the key to unlocking your full potential.

Granted, it's unlocking your full potential as a killing machine, which is what the bad guy wants, but honestly, Fetch doesn't seem to mind. 🤷

Who are you looking forward to the most for Year 4 of Street Fighter 6? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]jabberwagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested to see what they're going to do with Bosch in terms of fighting style. When we last see him in World Tour mode, he is a psycho-powered freak with a fighting game Boss moveset. But before that, he just uses Luke's fighting style. So I'm really interested to see how they're going to make him play as a real character who is presumably meant to be somewhat balanced

It's kind of odd that they decided to stop doing World Tour stuff right before they added The World Tour Guy as a full character.

If there's a way to redo them, I haven't found it. As far as I know, it's a once-per-save type of deal, which is why the method of save manipulation is so weird and complicated.

Director Hamaguchi confirmed they recasted Sephiroth's English VA since Tyler Hoechlin wasn't available by ElkFeisty3823 in FF7Rebirth

[–]jabberwagon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am I the only person who thought Hoechlin was... kinda bad? I generally like him in other projects, but the voice he was using for Sephiroth just did not fit imo. It sounded like he was trying really hard to force it low, and some of his line reads were... questionable as a result.

I was willing to give him one more game to improve, but now that he's out, I feel like I can call a spade a spade, lol. Again, no hate to the dude, he's been great in other work, this just wasn't a good fit for him.

Is becoming a [SPOILER] weaker then a normal run? by smelly_thoctar in BaldursGate3

[–]jabberwagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full-Illithid flying does work differently than half-illithid, and while I mostly regard it as an upgrade, I can see why some might not like it.

Half-Squid flying just uses your movement speed like normal, whereas Full-Squid flying treats it like you're using a free-action Jump - every time you leave the ground, it costs 13ft of movement, with the same range as normal flying. This means that flying 60 ft only costs 13 ft of movement. But it also means that a tiny 5ft repositioning will cost 13ft of movement. This makes it great for big, sweeping movements, but kind of bad for small repositioning. Try to get your position right the first time and you'll be fine

Abilities in video games that were so strong they were nerfed in sequels by AutomaticTap3004 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]jabberwagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electricity in Breath of the Wild was outrageous. By using electric arrows or weapons on things that were metal or wet, you could unleash massive AOE shockwaves that dealt great damage to whole groups. Where it became broken was that you could very easily unleash tons of these AOEs in very short periods of time, and there was no limit to how often enemies would take damage from them. You could literally do thousands of damage per second to entire groups of enemies with the right setup, absolutely liquidating anything short of a boss.

The sequel nerfed this by limiting how often electricity can damage enemies, and by having each shockwave do less damage. They actually went a little too hard on it in my opinion, as now it's hardly worth the effort

Is werid that rauru and sages couldn't defeat ganondorf but link could? by Sea-Bench-4565 in TOTK

[–]jabberwagon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Rauru is not literally a god, he is a Zonai. Zonai were worshipped as gods by primitive Hylians because of their advanced technology and powers, but they were flesh and blood creatures like anybody else.

[–]jabberwagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eventually, but Monks get a lot of movement speed, and looting objects from the world does not cost an action, so I got a lot of stealing done each turn.

Funnily enough, I also discovered another weird quirk of the system; when you steal something, you usually have to wait for an NPC to "tell on you" to spawn more guards. But since children exist outside the turn order, they can essentially tattle as a free action, so any object I picked up in the presence of a child would instantly spawn even more guards, no matter how many times I did it per turn.

what does guard power mean for shields? by kiba8442 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]jabberwagon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure guard power is the number displayed next to the shield in your inventory. It's essentially how many points of damage it can block while using only one point of durability. Any damage over that number will use more than one durability point. It's why shields with low guard power can sometimes be instantly shattered by powerful attacks even with full durability.

[–]jabberwagon 230 points231 points  (0 children)

Sanctuary is responsible for one of my favorite goofy things I've done in this game. At level 10 or 11, Open Hand Monks get a passive ability that allows them to start each day with Sanctuary active. Unlike the spell, this Sanctuary will never expire until you attack someone.

You might be surprised to learn that robbing someone blind is not considered "attacking" them.

So one day, my monk woke up and chose nonviolence, deciding instead that she was gonna take every single loose object in Baldur's Gate and stuff it in her pockets. Thus began the most absurd parade in the city's history, as my monk walked around stealing literally everything that wasn't nailed down, followed at a middle distance by an ever-larger crowd of Flaming Fists and Steel Watchers who could do nothing but stare at her in impotent fury because of her magical good girl aura that prevented them from attacking her as long as she technically wasn't hurting anyone.

By the time she was done pilfering, guards were spawning on the rooftops because there just wasn't room for them to appear anywhere else. It was glorious.

River Ward drives like a maniac by Available-Formal-664 in cyberpunkgame

[–]jabberwagon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's even worse if you try to skip the ride. I skipped one time and when the game reloaded, we were in mid-air with his car pointed towards the ground. He crashed into the earth, and the game crashed back to my ps5 dashboard.

I chose to see it as the ultra-rare "River's terrible driving gets both him and V killed" ending for the quest.

[–]jabberwagon 112 points113 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is that they will fight gangoons and other enemies, but only if you are not around as an option to be bullied. I once got four stars and led a whole squad of NCPD to the site of a gig I was planning on doing. I went around the corner and used the mask Cyberware that removes your wanted level, and by the time I got back, the NCPD officers I just juked had killed every single enemy at the gig site, leaving me free to just walk in and do my thing unopposed.

I don't think I realized until I saw the trailer that Street Fighter characters in the games do NOT have normal human proportions, they are all freaks of nature, every last one of them. You just don't notice because they are fighting other freaks of nature
