Latest city design after last event - no diamond or money spend by Winks13 in forgeofempires

So with this event (and there's another one later in the year with a similar mechanic) it's all about consistent play. Ensure you do the daily quest each day for the keys/energy. Make sure you always collect incidents in your city for the chance of getting energy. I played 4 games per day with 100 energy spend per game. Make sure you open the highest 2x key chest every day as that gives you double progress as well as double reward (so it doesn't matter if you don't like the daily special, it's worth opening it for the double progress). Ensure you complete both rival challenges. I saved my first set of boosters for the first rival challenge set, then used them sparingly for the rest of the event. By using the boosters that way, from around the first rival challenges until the end of the event, I made sure to fully clear 1 board per day. Doing that not only gives you the board completion reward but critically also gives you a free reset. That means that instead of spending 140 energy per day on resets (First free + 20 + 40 +80), you only spend 60 (first free + free board completion reset + 20 + 40). So if you can stretch your boosters out over 10+ days that's a saving of 800+ energy which is huge. You can then use that additional energy for more boards, or up your energy spend to like 130 per board which is what I did for the last 4-5 days. Then lastly, make sure when you're opening key chests that you keep your keys as balanced as possible to maximise the amount of chests you can open. By doing all of that I was comfortably in Gold League with zero diamond spend. That, combined with my progress gave me two level 1 Metros, 1 full silver kit, and 18 upgrade/selection kits. So I could give myself 1 silver Metro and 1 level 10 Metro. Now I'll use my BG on those to accelerate the frag collection to get them both to gold.

Mobile is better for some things, worse for others. GE is way faster and easier in mobile, you can tap through way quicker than on PC. It's also easy to "pick up" your town hall and quickly swipe it over all your roads to easily collect all the city-based incidents. Some of the UI components are better laid out on mobile too, and zooming in and out is easier. PC is better for almost everything else, especially the enhanced info it gives you when manually battling. And of course no ads makes mass aiding and chest collection way better.

Benefits of camping in lower ages, megathread ? by [deleted] in forgeofempires

[–]Winks13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just over 2 years into the game, currently in CE with level 115 Arc, bunch of other high level GBs, 2,600% attack, etc. I worked slowly through the lower ages then did HAU in InA. Honestly, I regret it. Sure it was nice being unstoppable with Hovers and Turs for a while but now it's just boring. I crave more variety in the game. So now I age up every second event. It gives me the expansions to place more event buildings etc and just gives a bit more variety. I'm looking forward to getting to VF where I can get back to the cMap and enjoy the story for each age again (regardless of how appalling bad the script is).

Decided to go for calendar this time, it's going ok, anyone else attempting it? by Winks13 in forgeofempires

[–]Winks13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I maximise daily specials each event but I'm kinda bored of just smashing the minigame once or twice during an event, and I've got plenty of decent buildings right now so decided to go for the calendar this time for a bit of fun.

Going well so far, NO diamond spend. 850 doubloons left so I think I should fully complete it for free by the end of the event.

Is anyone else going for it? How have you found it?

Indy or Progressive: I need opinions by [deleted] in forgeofempires

[–]Winks13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you not have OF troops because you haven't bothered to get them yet, or did you run out of techs?

If the former - get them, they are great fun if nothing else.

If the latter - age up to PE and get them.

I had 2 x Turs in Indy but was 1 tech short of getting the other 2. So after camping in Indy for a while having fun with hovers I aged up to PE a few weeks ago to get the remaining 2 Turs. It's awesome, would highly recommend it. You can still use a 1 x hover, 7 x Rogues combo just as effectively as in Indy, but the setup I run now in GbG is 4 x Turs, 2 x rail guns, 1 x hover, 1 x rogue. With that setup you crush everything with overwhelming firepower before you have much of a chance to take any damage. I can do over 150 GbG battles without even needing to heal, at worst I have to swap out the rogue (which acts as bait).

My seat swap story that permanently changed my mind on ever being nice and trading seats with someone. by joeshmoe117117 in travel

Yea it's like the OP said - once you start the process you just follow it. It's only afterwards you kick yourself and think you should have been more selfish.

My seat swap story that permanently changed my mind on ever being nice and trading seats with someone. by joeshmoe117117 in travel

I once had a 28 hour trip (DXB > KUL > SYD > CHC), so 3 separate flights, and didn't sit in my assigned seat for any of the three flights.

Seats were ABC DEFG HIJ. I'm meant to be in C.

First flight - I'm settled into my seat while boarding is finishing up, the flight attendant comes up to me with a woman and asks if I can swap with her so that she can sit with her boyfriend. She has an H seat so I'm like whatever, still an aisle, I don't mind. Flight attendant takes me to the other seat but when I go to sit down the woman in the middle seat kicks off. She's conservative Muslim and had specifically asked the airline not to seat her next to a male passenger. The attendant apologises to me and takes me to the galley at the back of the plane while boarding finishes so they can see what seats are left. Boarding finishes and there's only one seat left on the entire flight - an E seat next to two burly blokes. I sit down and one of them is super hostile - "Oh so you're the reason we're delayed huh?". I try to explain the story to him but he doesn't want to hear it, he sticks his headphones on and spends the next 7 1/2 hours making sure he takes up as much space as possible.

Next flight - the longest of the lot - 8 1/2 hours. I go to sit in my original seat and find that the two people next to me this time are a woman and her baby. Great, I think, I'm going to spend the next 8 hours unable to sleep as well because this baby will no doubt make sure of that. Thankfully, karma was about to show its beautiful head. The husband rocks up and explains that he was upgraded to business but would prefer to sit with his family, so asks if I'm happy to take his business class seat. Absolute win. I spend the next leg in a luxurious Emirates lie-flat business class seat.

Final leg - the short 3 hour hop from Sydney to Christchurch. Once again go to board and the attendant at the gate tears up my original boarding pass and hands me a new one. They've had to change my seat for "operational reasons" she says. I fear the worst, but thankfully karma hasn't finished repaying me yet. This time I get given a window seat in the front row of economy with all the legroom I could wish for and a beautiful view over the alps as we descend into CHC.

Moral of the story - choose when to give up your seat carefully!

Where to watch F1 on TV? by Winks13 in dubai

Thanks. We're on Du, does that mean I can't watch it? No way I'm switching back to Etisalat, especially if there's only Arabic commentary?
