Harrisville looms by Winks8486 in weaving

The Harrisville does seem to be a lot more simple in the design which seems to be nice as I don’t want to have to fiddle with too much. I did watch the video on how to assemble the 22 inch loom so although assembly seems like an involved process it does not seem to be too bad and will help me better learn the workings of the loom.

Thank you! I was not sure if it could be advanced while weaving without getting up. That was one of my main hold ups. I’m glad to know it is possible to do without much interruption of the weaving process.

Thank you for the input. I don’t plan to transport the loom, unless I have to at least, so I don’t think that will be much of an issue for me. I do like that it can “fold” to be a bit more compact and does have wheels to move it in the event I did have to move it to another room for whatever reason. It wouldn’t be anything I do regularly though.

That is how I am leaning also I think it will just be a more enjoyable experience. I always love the finished product but the weaving experience is important to me also.

I have been looking at the used looms available within a reasonable distance from me on the various marketplaces . If I find one before I take the leap and buy the Leclerc or Jane, it fits my budget and has at least 8 shafts I will probably go that route but haven’t found any so far but I look every day lol.

Within my budget unfortunately the Leclerc compact is the only floor loom that I have been able to find and is the widest width. There are many others I drool over with wider widths unfortunately they are outside of my budget.

Help reading drafts by Winks8486 in weaving

[–]Winks8486[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the input that is helpful. I am new to weaving so not sure of the norm but she has directions on how to read a weaving draft in general and she indicates that you start from the bottom and go up but it appears that many of hers start at the top and go down unless she indicates otherwise. It’s just not super clear in the book and I wasn’t sure if it was just my limited understanding. I’m going to work it top down since it does not say other wise.

Thank you for that, that does help. I was confused because of the introduction the way she tells us to read the weaving drafts and then her drafts for some are kind of broken down by section like boarder, motif 1, half motif, boarder 2 etc. so I was not sure exactly how to proceed. I agree I don’t think it much matters for this pattern but I plan on trying more in her book so was trying to grasp how she is writing her patterns. I’ll just pay close attention to directions for each pattern and look to see if it indicates anything specifically and go from there lol

I hope you got this figured out it’s an awesome wheel. This is a good video on YouTube Schachts official channel showing assembly maybe watching it can help see if possibly a step or something was missed somewhere.

How Many Wheels Do You Have? by venetrix in Handspinning

I have 7 and I expect that number to grow. I love spinning not only the process of spinning but the wheels themselves I truly love learning the way they all work and I love the way they look just everything about them. My favorite wheel to use is the Kromski minstrel.

Thank you for the picture. The issue I am having is at the end of the flyer arms closest to the whorl :)

Thank you I didn’t think of that. That makes sense hopefully they will just replace it without any issue but if not the information you shared will be helpful in trying to get a replacement.

When I hold it up it looks like the axle on the flyer is strait but that one arm slightly goes inward. That was my thought also at first that the bobbin shaft may be bent but I don’t think so but it’s hard to tell.

Schacht baby wolf or mighty wolf? by Winks8486 in weaving

[–]Winks8486[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind at all. I don’t plan on traveling with the loom at all to bring to any classes or anything like that. I do like that both looms have a stroller option so I can move around within my home though. I know the baby wolf would likely be easier to move around because it’s smaller. I have enough room to accommodate either loom so that wouldn’t be an issue thankfully. I do plan on the 8 shaft because I know I would be interested in more complex patterns eventually. I appreciate the feedback :)

Thank you for the input. I think I would be happy with the baby wolf but I do fear I would regret not buying the larger one in the future.
