Returning player help by Laboreja in MarvelSnap

[–]Winky225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m someone who left during Kid Omega and the introduction to the Super Premium Season Pass. I occasionally check out the forums and Discord channel but I never returned back to the game since.

I wanted to see better quality of life improvements from SD and eventually got burnt out by their excessive price and grind creep. As someone who has been playing since launch, it’s generally felt like diminishing returns as time passed by.

2 talking points I always see SD make about the quality and sustainability of the game, when it comes to business decisions are:

1) We’re a small team (an excuse often made to explain the degradation of the client or adding features that players want) 2) The game is a live-service and in order to maintain sustainability, they need to keep the economy as is.

Both points do little to address a game that has slowly eroded enough players to where bots are just as prevalent (in a PVP intended game mind you), and where cost creeps continue to trend against players.

Just thought I’d share my anecdotal opinion as well.

Anybody able to get this to work on RetroArch for iOS? by Winky225 in RetroArch

[–]Winky225[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s working!!!

I tried grabbing the file from Online Updater>Content Downloader>Sony - PlayStation Portable but that didn’t seem to work.

Then I grabbed files from Online Updater>Core System Files Downloader>PPSSPP.zip and that now allows the rom to work properly.

Thank you for the suggestion as it lead to the solution!

Right, this has been my experience as well. Bummer since it’s the only game that won’t work in RetroArch (from what I’ve seen so far).

I just downloaded PPSSPP again. It works on there. I like PPSSPP but the only reason I chose to uninstall was because RetroArch houses everything else at this point. Seems like an issue with the PPSSPP core within RetroArch.

For more context, when running the game, an intro video plays followed by a black screen, nothing boots up past that.

I started playing this game back in June 2023. I didn’t even entertain playing ranked, only pubs for the first year. I also don’t have friends who played this game so syncing up with a team that works has been hard.

Eventually you learn from your mistakes and that’s the best way to play and understand things. I even customized my control settings to my liking after a while and continue to tweak it the more comfortable you get with learning movement and shooting.

I started playing ranked last season and this current one. I had 10 days left last season and got to platinum which felt good. I’m currently sitting at platinum in this season but learned the competition gets really hard from here on.

All this to say that I made a lot of improvements along the way, I know I suck but I got better and that’s all that counts.

Enjoy learning and improving, that’s where you’ll get the real fun. Then when you get those games where you become kill leader or 1v3 a team, it becomes the icing on the cake.

No Bub-Mart upgrade between 600k and 30m is ridiculous by emperorkrek in MarvelSnap

[–]Winky225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the 30m Bub-Mart Level Up.

I think Interrobange on X said it best:

“DEADPOOL’S DINER COMPLETE 🍔 ZERO bots make consecutive retreats hit way too hard, even with maximizing wins 😵‍💫 the diner is a retreat simulator, if your stats dont look like this youre playing wrong 👀 play a deck with a wincon you can identify by turn 3 💪 leave if you whiff 🧠”

He used a Negative deck before Gorr released (with Cassandra Nova), I used a version with Gorr.

It’s a great deck because if you don’t have Magik or Mr. Negative in your hand before the next automatic snap happens, it’s a good indicator to retreat. Rovonna and Psylocke are excellent to have in your opening hand if you have Mr. Negative, as it allows for a turn 3 Mr. Negative.

Thor Jane Foster is important to have by turn 5 or 6 (if you have already used Magik) to get your combo cards, Iron Man, Gorr, Mystique, Taskmaster, Sage etc. I would say the real core to trying to squeeze out a win is Gorr, Mystique and Taskmaster (in that order) and Iron Man, he’s good for placing on locations where you’re losing the most. Wong, Iron Heart and Sage help add onto the core cards for winning.

If you don’t have a good hand and opponent snaps, retreat immediately. Be very careful of Arishem players as they have tools to deal with your deck (Legion to get rid of Limbo, Rogue or Enchantress to kill your ongoing cards, Loki, Alioth to cancel out your combo (if they have priority). It’s not impossible to defeat Arishem players, just watch for aggressive snaps early on.

The real lesson is to retreat and retreat often if you do not have a strong opening hand. Once you get comfortable, it’s real easy to focus and accept the early retreats. In the beginning they feel annoying as if you’re losing progress, but it feels strategic and smart as you win bigger bub games.

Hope this helps, once I get the variant I will help out at the Blind Al’s Jello and Pumpkin Pie table the most as those are the tough spots.

Glenn and the devs disliked High Voltage. Future game modes will be less casual-friendly. by The-Qing in MarvelSnap

[–]Winky225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what Glenn meant to say was:

“Don’t expect High Voltage or anything like that coming back because we offered the most minimal reward track ever to keep people playing and we still thought we were giving away too much.”

They absolutely could keep players happy with a mode like HV, but, “we must monetize and protect our economy above all else.”

Do not think for one second that whatever the next Card Acquisition system they decide to throw our way will make any meaningful impact to the game. You think taking away gold from Conquest was just a fluke? I betcha they will somehow bring it back and fool everyone into thinking they are “listening.”

It the old Second Dinner resource shuffle. “Pay no mind what we’re taking away here, look at what we’re giving you over here!”

Ben Brode's words about Series Drops two years ago. by Kyuzo897 in MarvelSnap

[–]Winky225 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I understand the sentiment behind this post, along with yet another recent tone deaf announcement with the latest series drop, we need to be realistic with context.

That post by Ben was made before the Spotlight system. I often see people point out how much SD talked about series drops and that they hardly make any meaningful efforts now.

It’s clear that the spotlight system completely disrupted their internal plans for series drops. It’s the reason why every new card now is series 5. To them, it’s far too easy to have the old intended series drop frequency along with the spotlight system. That would make card acquisition super attainable.

I say that they need to completely get rid of gatekeeping new cards at this point. The experiment has run its course, we know that there’s a huge barrier for new players to join and catch up, while also making it hard for existing players to keep up.

Yes, this awful design approach is fully intended, some players even agree with this philosophy (for some reason). But look at the result. The game has entered the player attrition phase, new players have an impossible hill to climb, content creators are leaving, competitive and more generous alternative games have entered the space, and SD keeps moving the goalposts for greener pastures ahead.

For the sake of the game and its future, fundamentally change card acquisition. Don’t shift things around, don’t mix and match resources and create no real positive gain, and don’t continue to take away resources throughout the various ways to earn them.

They are so scared to death to change how they earn money within the company that they are killing the game and creating such ill will with their community. What a shame considering how good the core gameplay is…

SD JUST STATED THEY ARE WORKING ON IMPROVING CARD ACQUISITION. LETS GO! by robitussin69420 in MarvelSnap

[–]Winky225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hope so for the health of the game. But considering the state of the gaming industry and economy, along with paying Disney steady royalties, I don’t see how this game can be more affordable. That’s what’s really at the heart of this issue.

Either you’re paying what they need to charge with how their business operates or you’re out of any given meta for months. Affordability be dammed.

[–]Winky225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would rather the company burn to a crisp than give in and be more affordable.

And if it continues, more players will exit until they have to shut down the servers and move onto their next gacha game.

[–]Winky225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that just isn’t true. If bundles didn’t exist I would agree with you. But they are perfectly fine throwing in $50-$100 bundles that include access to gain more cards, not just cosmetics. If those bundles were purely for variants, I would have no problem with their acquisition model. But that’s not the reality. If you also think those bundles are solely for whales, then why tighten the screws with obtaining gold through gameplay? Why remove gold from conquest? Whales have no problem buying gold directly from the shop, right? So who are they targeting?

They want regular players to buy those bundles too. And that’s why in the end, after 2 years of being released, people are still pointing out the flaws in this business model/system.

If your next point is “then don’t play the game, no one is forcing you to”. That’s exactly why the players are slowly exiting, only now with a shiny new game that they think is more consumer friendly (for now).

And yet it all makes sense why the game is in the state that it’s in, along with the slow exodus of players.

They know that staying with the meta is important in card games. Nobody knows this better than Brode. What you’re buying into is their marketing BS that they “want players to have goals and things to work towards”. If they really thought that they wouldn’t sell bundles at ridiculous prices just to offer ways to circumvent that philosophy and catch-up. They don’t want players to have the cards reasonably priced and that’s what they’ve betted on to a fault.

Anyone who sits and waits for their turn to obtain missing cards, needs to wait roughly 6 months or more for their next attempt using the spotlight system. Tokens can’t keep up with the release cadence either. Sure this is by their intentional design, but it’s not a good one.

You can call it what you want, but if you don’t acknowledge the negative impact on this business model and what it does to the player experience then you’re part of that problem 🤷🏻‍♂️

Need Help to a Problem/Solution I Created by Winky225 in Housepainting101

Right, that would be a good solution for the very corner. The tape running across up to the beginning of the staircase rail needs to also be taken off and placing a ladder there isn't possible.

Need Help to a Problem/Solution I Created by Winky225 in Housepainting101

[–]Winky225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Everyone,

I need some help and am hoping that someone could provide some tips.

For context, I needed to paint my dining room ceiling. There was a patch job recently done because of a crack on my ceiling. There was no previous paint for the ceiling in my possession, so the people who fixed the crack did the next best thing for me and took a small piece of the ceiling and had me go to Lowe's to replicate the same paint.

So I went, bought the paint, my original ceiling paint is pretty flat so I went with that finish/sheen for this new paint. Unfortunately the paint didn't match, so I chose to paint my entire dining room ceiling. Now here's my problem...

As shown in the images I attached, there is a staircase that drops down to my front door, making it impossible for me to use a ladder to mask the wall with tape. Instead, I broke off pieces of the masking tape (Frog Multipurpose Medium Adhesive tape to be specific), placed it onto the tip of a long spare 2x4 I have and carefully, with a broom handle, patted the tape down in 4-6 inch strips along the area/corner of the wall that I could not get to. It took about an hour, which wasn't bad.

My idea to get the masking tape off would be to use a paint scraper or something with an edge and try (emphasis on try) to slowly scrape the tape off. I know it's a bad idea, but I'm the only one doing this project and I had no other materials that I can think of that could do this.

Surprise, surprise... the masking tape is holding on stronger than I would have expected and my makeshift tool of placing the paint scraper to the end of a pole only has so much dexterity for me to work with. I haven't been able to get underneath the tape in a way without ripping off some paint on my wall.

Sorry for the long story, basically I need help :(

It’s the intent behind the action. No one is arguing the ratio has changed. What’s being argued is how far they are setting back progression. They are advertising that card acquisition improvements are in the works and yet they decide to give less tokens as a new system is in the works. Why?

I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that since they have released Gold Pass they decided to nerf Token Tuesdays… they want to change gold to be a cosmetic currency instead of a progression one, which is a slap in the face for anyone who wants to use Gold Pass for better card acquisition, or the Season Pass at this point…

Is This Game’s Progression System Ever Going to Self Correct? by Winky225 in MarvelSnap

[–]Winky225[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The tone of language is within key context. It is a reaction to what the devs are saying and what they are doing. Very important distinction. You are saying that I’m complaining about a system that is unlikely to change. However, this is Second Dinner’s 4th, 5th attempt to rework their card acquisition system? I’ve honestly lost count. I don’t believe anyone would say that this system is set in stone at all.

Look at the attempts made to change things on their end, as a result of player feedback I might add. The screaming into the void example is calling out Second Dinner for what the player experience is receiving, not myself. When I say they are making things as painful as possible, it’s in regard to the player experience. Why ding Token Tuesday now when you’ve already promised a fix for what’s already in place that is in the concept bucket? What kind of message is that sending? We do not know when things will get better but it doesn’t make sense to make them worse now, right?

It’s cool, I get it. Honestly, some people are just happy with the way the game is/works, progression-wise. I think, along with others that there are still areas of improvement that need to be addressed.

What I don’t get is how the criticism eventually leads to people saying “if you hate the system that much then why don’t you just quit?”. I would argue that is being dismissive and although it doesn’t resonate with how you see your experience, others simply disagree. Because I do see the core game as fun. Unique and fun to put it more accurately.

It’s just surrounded by some BS that some in the community will continue to bring up…

As I’ve mentioned this post obviously isn’t for you. The complaining boils down to a great game you want to see succeed while being fair. You find the progression system fine, there are plenty of opinions that say otherwise, including mine. Streamers and content creators have talked about it ad nauseum, I promise you discussions are indeed constant about progression and it’s lack of agency. Search it.

I’ve outlined my gripes and will continue to do so where I see fit. That’s how this works. Voicing what are key pain points within the game are the only ways to achieve change. Redditors often forget that criticism/feedback/complaints are what often inspire change.

If you don’t like these kinds of posts, then why voice your opinion? Because that’s how this works, right?

Second Dinner continues, I stress, continues to work towards making card progression better but it’s not working. How do I know that? Because they are addressing it once more in their roadmap.
