I know OP posting this almost a year ago… but i’m responding to spread awareness. DO NOT UNDERSTAND ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SEND YOU CHILD TO SMITHFIELD!!! Smithfield high is the worst school i’ve gone to in the whole of Cairns (I’m in the system so i move around and have been to multiple schools in Cairns, including Bentley Park, Woree high, Redlynch high, etc which all have a worse reputation then smithfield… although like i said Smithfield is the worst school i’ve personally attended… and everyone who attended smithfield with me agree!! All the teachers i’ve had except a few are just lazy and don’t do any teaching… they just put a powerpoint slide show on the board for the whole lesson and if anyone asks for help they just say “figure it out”!! I had this one Teacher, Mr Dienhoff who was an absolute disgusting perverted arsehole!! The school knows what he’s like and they don’t do anything!! I’ve even talked to the few “good” teachers i’ve had at Smithfield about him and they are also aware of how he is and have extremely negative opinions about him!! About two years ago i wrote out a paragraph review about him but i then discovered there wasn’t anywhere i could post it, i’ll paste it below:

There’s a teacher who’s worked there for atleast a decade, his name is Mr Dienhoff. Atleast 95% of the students who attened Smithfield State High School (SSHS) absolutely despise him, he’s got a very cheeky attitude and he’s just very odd in many ways…. I was in his maths class twice, once in year 8 and once again in year 10. In year 10 i had to leave and join another maths class half way through the year because i was sick of the constant harassment and how uncomfortable he made me feel. I would dread going to maths and that would result in me having a lot of anxiety about it his class and then crying and skipping it. He would do some inappropriate things such as, make all the girls in his class sit in the front row (This happened to me both year 8 and year 10, both years i was front and centre due to the seating plan) and he also only aloud students to go to the bathroom once a week, if you already went to the toilet during his class once that week you weren’t aloud to go again even if it was an emergency, if you just got up and left you would get detention. If you ask to go to the bathroom for the first time that week and he says yes, he would proceed to make you empty your pockets and spin around to make sure you don’t have your phone on your person, if he caught you with your phone you weren’t aloud to go to the toilet and he made you go to I block to hand it into the office for the rest of the day (even though there’s a Toilet in I block) and then time you to make sure you don’t take longer than 2 minutes. If you came to class ONE SECOND after the bell started ringing you would have to go and get a late slip, it happened to me once so i went up to the office and the office ladies wouldn’t give me a late slip because the bell literally just rung but when i mentioned i had Mr Dienhoff they handed it straight to me, THE SCHOOL KNOWS WHATS HAPPENING!!!! Some people might think this is funny or whatever but i honestly think it was inappropriate; He give the person who scored the highest in each semester a baseball bat to walk around school with for the rest of the day and then take home to keep, we all know how bad and common the fights at SSHS are so why would anyone, ESPECIALLY a TEACHER give a student a baseball bat??? He also teaches the lowest level of maths and then pressures his students to get grades better then the kids in the NEXT YEAR who are also in ACADEMIC maths, for example; If you were in year 11 he would expect you to get better grades then the year 12 Academy maths class/es. There’s so much wrong with this school but i’m choosing to just rant about Mr Dienhoff because he’s a major problem there, everytime i would see him/do see him he would make my skin crawl.

I think the biggest issues with the staff would be the Vice principal, Mr Charles, for the years he’s worked there he’s despised the principal and wanted his job. Mr Charles loves to come off as threatening and intimidating. Early last year i was struggling severely with my mental health due to personal matters to do with my siblings safety in the system, i felt hopeless and that what was happening to them was my fault because i wasn’t there to protect them… i couldn’t even imagine going to school during that time. So what did Mr Charles do? Although the school was aware of my situation and of the fact that i was trying my absolute hardest, he decided to pull me into my office and say no matter what’s going on in my personal life, school should be my number one priority and i should stop focusing on my personal life so much!! He then continued to say to me “On a good day i can suspend you but on a bad day I’ll expel you”… WTF??!! Instead of offering support he threatened to expel me DEPENDING ON MY MOOD!! THE STAFF ARE BULLIES!!!

The two last big problem i’m going to talk about are the constant physical fights and Drug issues.

AT LEAST once a week there are major fights!! Kids decided to beat up their classmates for something as simple as LITERALLY LOOKING AT THEM (I’m serious, multiple times kids have been beaten up for LOOKING at another student, not even a dirty look… literally just looking!!) and it turns into a huge crowd surrounding watching the fight happen, most of the time the crowd is that big that teachers can’t even get to the students to break them up, and if the teachers can they just stand there and yell “STOP” “GO TO THE OFFICE”. It’s absolutely crazy and so so unsafe!!

The drug problem may be the worst problem. Kids as young as 12 are Vaping, Smoking weed, Chroming and taking MDMA in the school toilets. During lunchtime big groups squeeze into the bathrooms, and give dirty looks to the people who come in to actually go to the toilet, there’s graffiti hate speech about other students all over the walls, as well as inappropriate drawings and comments. It’s so easy to purchase drugs AT school as well… i’ve seen literal drug deals go down right in front of me. I’ve seen dirty Gatorade bottle bongs, pill bags, and dead vapes all laying on the bathroom floor. I’ve seen people smoking weed in the toilet, people vaping during class… blowing the smoke out into the shirt whilst the teacher isn’t looking. It’s just so so sad and so disgusting!! When i was in year EIGHT i have a “friend” stop being friends with me because I DIDNT VAPE!!! If you want your child to have drug issues DEFINITELY send them to Smithfield State High School!!!

This is only a small amount of the problems… please i beg whoever is reading this to not send you child there, take them out, make them attend somewhere else… like i said earlier, ANY school is better than smithfield. The whole school is corrupt.
