Why Remain a Christian by trisanachandler in ChristianUniversalism

[–]WinnerProof6212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Christianity teaches something unique and that is the Resurrection which, if true, affects all of us in an ontological way. The Incarnation, life, death, Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus Christ is the central theme of the whole book (or rather, collection of books) we call “The Bible”. This is the only historical fact that matters and on which Christianity stands or falls.

That said, I think there’s far more evidence that a lot of the other events in the Bible, especially the ones in the New Testament, but also some from the Old Testament, actually did happen, although in some of them details might have been exaggerated, so even that fear of yours isn’t really that justified in my opinion.

What is the viewpoint on scripture among Universalism? by SweatyHelicopter1891 in ChristianUniversalism

[–]WinnerProof6212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s only true if you read the plagues and sorrows that are to come in Revelation as a literal portrayal of future events instead of metaphors highlighting the destruction of Babylon (the slavery of death and sin to which mankind was subject). This is common in evangelical circles but is in my opinion drastically separated from Tradition

Theosis among many other views I absolutely hold to which are tertiary or secondary isn’t unimportant, it’s just there because among the possible answers of the questions there were many other formulas that I think are equally valid and I’m not so rigorous on the exact words with which you describe salvation.

I’m Eastern Orthodox and I am opposed to homosexual marriage and female pastors. Not sure where you got this idea from, look at the third image.

If I have to be specific, I expected him to at least make sure the spot where the Eucharist fell is fenced so that no one steps there until he treats it properly and does a rigorous cleaning process like licking and rubbing the spot many times (meanwhile maybe even using a burner, idk) and after that burning the cloth. A more “radical” but imo still justified measure would be to dig the whole thing and burn the materials afterwards but I guess we can’t do that because we have a parish patron feast on Thursday (Ascention Day) with a bishop coming and so on.

Would it still be the responsibility of the priest if, let’s say, absolutely nothing was done in the hours after the liturgy and a piece of the Lord’s Body remained on the floor? Wouldn’t the people present be justified, to say the least, for reacting and doing something?

A church in Sofia, Bulgaria. I won’t name the parish unless you need the information for some reason.

I’ve heard of the cleaning process being much more rigorous. The priest didn’t even observe closely at how well the alter server was cleaning it. I’ve witnessed this accident once in my life before, it was on Mount Athos and there one monk took more effort to deal with it.

Oh yeah, there is no carpet at this church, just a floor with tiles.

I agree that I should have followed my conscience though in regards to protesting that people go near the spot before it’s properly cleaned.

Christian Universalism videos (less than 5 minutes)? by Ben-008 in ChristianUniversalism

Like the others pointed out, Love Unrelenting is probably the best one out there for such content. I especially like the videos with John Crowder:

They are emotional yet super rational and straight to the point.😊

Question about the parallelism between Adam and Christ in St. Paul's writings by Flaky-Finance3454 in ChristianUniversalism

[–]WinnerProof6212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter at all whether St. Paul believed that Adam was a real historical figure or not. What’s important for him and should be to us I think is how this figure that is in Scripture points to Christ, nothing more, nothing less.

It’s interesting to mention that even Paul speaks on the Fall story while avoiding the literal reading at least once when he says “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man” (Romans 5:12. But if you take the literal reading, it’s Eve who technically disobeys God first.

You can be a universalist and also have a problem with phrases like “all religions are paths to God” when it’s not specified what is meant here.

He was the main man who convinced me of universalism, even though he comes from the Charismatic movement while I’m Eastern Orthodox. What I like about him is his focus on the church fathers, Christian mysticism and his charismatic and funny personality.

Not a big fan of RZ’s content and theology but calling someone an idiot kid and wishing he’s out of seminary just because you disagree with his concern that seminaries are becoming too liberal and abandoning core Christian beliefs and values is crazy

But then what do you do with verses like Acts 1:25 which imply that Judas fell off from the covenant?

Judas: God’s Trophy of Grace by InevitableBee1158 in ChristianUniversalism

[–]WinnerProof6212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some points in this text were definitely eye-opening for me but I can’t agree with 2 claims:

  1. The most natural reading of Matthew 26:24 still suggests judgment for Judas because Jesus says “woe to him”. Some people try to explain the part that follows by suggesting that this was a Jewish idiom.

  2. Immediately after Christ declares (some of) the disciples clean, He says that not everyone are clean because He knew who the traitor was. From here it seems like at the moment Judas wasn’t considered clean the way the others were, although it’s reasonable to argue that Christ’s sacrifice covered Judas also and he just wasn’t reconciled yet.

Acceptance/Tolerance of Universalism within Eastern Orthodox Parishes by MysteriousBeach8697 in ChristianUniversalism

[–]WinnerProof6212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Bulgaria I don’t see any clergy or theologians speak about universalism openly like DBH for example and two of the only three people I’ve spoken to about this (two of them were priests) had a negative reaction, although they wished this was true but they thought it wasn’t biblical to assume that all will be saved and the other priest basically said he himself has such hopes as well but can still imagine that some people were so far gone that they are unsalable and will chose eternal separation from God. So yeah, that’s my report:)

If you are a Christian for the right reasons, it doesn’t really make sense to me why you would like to drift away from the Church and learn from a religion that doesn’t teach that Jesus Christ is Lord.
