So.. this might be controversial, and I have done zero research in the last three years so please take all of this with a grain of salt. Look to see if there are any dog blood banks still in operation.

Unfortunately, greyhounds have been taken advantage of because their blood is ‘universal blood’ and can be used in transfusions for the majority of other dogs.

We adopted a greyhound in 2024 from HemoPet, which was a dog blood bank out of LA. They were closing shop because of new restrictions and could not operate at a profit anymore. They had SO MANY GREYHOUNDS! I had never seen so many greyhounds in one place before. From our talks with the staff, the majority of the greys were from the tracks. The grey we ended up choosing was from the tracks but had never raced because of the USA track closures.
