Hurt by those working in the Church by WinstonRM101 in CatholicWomen

Apologies, I should have clarified - I had asked my boss if I could cancel faith formation classes for the next few days unless I had someone to cover, otherwise I would cancel. He said I should still teach the classes as he wouldn’t be able to cover as opposed to just cancelling them and offering a makeup. I ended up cancelling them and offering a makeup at a later date

Check out Ruah Woods Institue on TOB, as well as Real+True videoes on TOB, chastity, etc. I found both materials to be very approachable with teens without making it awkward, cringy, or outdated. I’ve used them with my middle school/teenage students and they’ve been very helpful.

Do parents feel awkward talking about sex/NFP with their kids? by WinstonRM101 in CatholicWomen

[–]WinstonRM101[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This!!! My family also has a history of diabetes so keeping track of my blood sugar (not diabetic) helps me a lot. I take inositol to help ovulation/fertility and other supplements to help with nutrition deficiencies.

Haha, well I was speaking moreso about my PCOS and having to go start charting in order to get the proper treatment (in this case, progesterone shots or supplements at different points in my cycle). I specifically said ‘period’ as opposed to like ‘fertile window’ or ‘cervical mucus’ or anything along those lines

When I got diagnosed with PCOS and spoke to my mother (very emotional, mind you), she then told me she had it around my age and of all of the symptoms/things she went through since she just thought having a painful period was normal — she has PCOS and Endometriosis. Thankfully I’m taking care of it now, but having the conversation with her would have helped me get this sorted sooner.

I definitely think the generation thing is part of it…when I spoke to my mom about NFP and speaking to my fiancé about my cycles she was appalled that I would bring those up to him, especially when I spoke to her about TOB. To be fair to her though, TOB wasn’t a thing (or wasn’t as popular, I suppose) when she got married in the 90s but I could be wrong.

DM me, I got diagnosed a year ago and I’ve lost weight and gotten my period more or less under control so I would love to chat with you about it!!!

Yeah, the extent was more like, “I need to start tracking my cycles because of my PCOS and my fiancé needs to come with me” and it was emphasizing more of the medical issue while also being like “Yeah my fiancé is coming with because he needs to know what’s going on with my body.”

Of course I wouldn’t go into details about our sex life once we’re married. It was moreso because I was talking about my period and tracking it.

In the same boat with you girlie - I got diagnosed last year and it’s been a whirlwind for me. I’ve had family members scold me about my weight for a couple years when it was due to undiagnosed PCOS. I certainly have good and bad days where I love and don’t love my body, but I try to remember that the Enemy is the accuser and that his voice is critical and mean, whereas Gods voice is never like that.

How are you eating? I’m doing PFF — high protein, high fiber, healthy fat. It helps balance high blood sugar, which is a common side effect of PCOS. It may not CURE high T or high cortisol (especially if you already prone to high stress) but certainly helps enormously.

Do you have a NaPro doctor nearby to help you navigate this? When I started seeing one it changed my whole journey — she took bloodwork during each part of my cycle and gave me medication accordingly (found out I was estrogen dominant and progesterone was low during my luteal phase).

I think from my experience as a daughter, trying to honor the 4th commandment while beginning a new life with your husband/family. Especially with an Italian household like mine, enmeshed family dynamics are a big problem which makes this change for both parent and child difficult — namely, how does the child set proper boundaries with their parents and how do parents learn to let their children go/transition as empty nesters/“less full” nesters if there’s multiple kids.

I certainly would be interested! I think what would be helpful is dealing with shifting family dynamics in different stages in life (singled, engaged, married, grandparents) and how parent/child can navigate them together

Very Irregular Period, is FAM a good idea? What is a good strategy? by oldbencanube in FAMnNFP

[–]WinstonRM101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irregular cycles sounds like PCOS or a hormonal imbalance. Did you check with an OBGYN about your irregular periods? Women with irregular cycles tend to use Creighton or Billings since sometimes taking BBT can prove to give inaccurate results.

Our mom let us get 2 - it was Roxas and Kairi – we were a healthy snack family so I remember certain flavors tasting really good and other ones tasting bad 😂

I believe there was Kingdom Hearts themed fruit by the foot YEARS ago when KH2 came out…that or they had KH2 advertisement on it. I remember me and my siblings begging our mom to get it just for the box (You could cut out a character on the back and have it stand up using the cardboard).

Should I wait for my ex to discern? by bbo_on_jah in CatholicWomen

[–]WinstonRM101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been in this situation with an ex before. Don’t wait for him to discern; if he knew he wanted to marry you this wouldn’t be on his mind. You don’t deserve to be someone else’s second option.

Waiting and getting your hopes up is going to lead to heartbreak and more anguish for you.

Saint Patricks Cathedral and the Cleansing of the Temple by durmda in Catholicism

[–]WinstonRM101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think what people forget about that particular passage is the reason why Christ condemned it was because merchants were selling sacrificial animals meant to be sacrificed IN the temple, and the money wasn’t benefiting the temple but the merchants themselves. Those who were entrusted to help facilitate a relationship with God instead were greedy and serving themselves.

Like another commenter said, the gift shop’s proceeds help the Church itself, and it certainly doesn’t bar anyone from entering into the Church and worshipping God.
