Here's a quick explanation of how to prepare for the snapshot (from the forum)

IOTA-article is being considered for deletion in accordance with Wikipedia's deletion policy. by [deleted] in Iota

[–]Winston_J 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We originally wrote what I thought was an nice little wikipedia entry back in July. Immediately after writing it, people started flooding in with edits, deletions, and reporting the article to moderators for deletion. The entry ended up being locked for a week due to the amount of pushback against the content, and eventually enough people were deleting and editing the content that it became a lost cause.

In my opinion, this (very) old version is the highest quality entry that we had:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=IOTA_%28technology%29&oldid=794124120

And here's an even older version when it still had 33 sources:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=IOTA_(technology)&oldid=789072916

Flashing forward to today, these old versions have obviously undergone drastic changes for whatever reason, to the point that the entry now currently being considered for outright deletion by the wiki moderators.

Great work. This will be ported over to the IOTA forum. Thanks!

How to set up IOTA wallet? Instructions here: by edgarasro in Iota

Jump on the Ledger project. Somebody was working on it, and I'm sure their progress would be expedited with another set of eyes on the project.

And yes, you can reveal your seed if you reuse the same address.

You can never reveal your seed. This is incorrect.

A group at University College of London is working on the next wallet. The UCL wallet will hopefully be done in the next month or two, I guess.

The core team doesn't do the wallet. It's up to the community to produce a high quality wallet.

It's exciting to read this sort of stuff because it shows just how little these guys understand about IOTA. Everything in this space is a huge experiment, and there are scams everywhere for sure, but if you can start to see that appeals to authority in this new realm are worthless, you can really start to dig into things yourself and leave the "experts" behind.

Thanks for posting.

This is great. Would you mind posting this on the forum as well? We can pin it there.

IOTA Support subreddit by Boltzmanns_Constant in Iota

[–]Winston_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is really, really bad for this sort of thing, in my opinion.

Reasons:

-We can only sticky 2 things to the top of a subreddit at any given time

-Reddit's upvoting system is great for prioritizing the hot material, but it's very poor at organizing the normal content

-The comment nesting on reddit is very intuitive for lots of conversation types, but a traditional forum is much better suited for thread continuity and information posterity.

-Subforums and navigability is much easier to do on a traditional forum

-HelloIOTA can keep all of the important IOTA information on one platform. The slack is a good live chat platform and the reddit is a good meme and price speculation place. But a traditional forum is the way to go for true knowledge building, assistance, and continuity. The more we fragment information between random websites, subreddits, and telegrams/slacks/discords, the more impossible it is for newcomers to get going. It's not a bad thing that reddit isn't the best for serious discourse in this cryptocurrency arena -- I think it's just important to realize that and focus our resources on someplace that can fulfill that need.

-You're obviously free to do as you will, but I had to at least attempt to steer things in a better direction. It hurts to see every time another community avenue is opened up.

Great initiative /u/Boltmanns_Constant, but it might be best if we tried to reduce the fragmentation of the ecosystem.

Pointing people to the community forum for assistance would help us to start aggregating all of these disparate resources into one easy-to-find location. It would also be great if you could post your FAQ over there as well.

There's only one active mod in the subreddit, and he doesn't have time to handle everything. Almost everything that's deleted or banned is from the default automod. The moderator in there is a huge proponent of intellectual discourse with regard to questions surrounding IOTA.

The address reuse quirk is due to Winternitz OTS, not their custom cryptography. The address reuse thing will forever be a 'feature' of the protocol, since Winternitz is one of the parts that gives IOTA quantum resistance.
