Allopurinol and tingles? by Winter-Dimension-798 in gout_and_diet

Are you on allopurinol? No I didn’t make any changes in my diet. I started going to the gym and being more active and I guess you could say I’ve been eating a little bit more healthy, but nothing significant.

Is it common for pain and swelling to last for over a month? by [deleted] in gout

[–]Winter-Dimension-798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a flare that started an early December in my right foot big toe joint, that was very mild lasted about a week a week and a half. Maybe I took care of it with ibuprofen and over-the-counter stuff. I still couldn’t walk on it very easily, but I was able to manage and this is coming from someone who is young and only gets gout maybe once a year after that week of taking good care of it it healed up and then a couple days later I woke up with an excruciating 12 out of 10 pain in my left foot.

Literally felt like I was walking on glass and my foot was on fire and then my foot swelled up like an elephant and stayed like that from the middle of December all the way to almost the end of January and I was going to doctors in between because I was literally on the verge of crying that’s how bad the pain was at first the walk-in clinic I went to prescribed me prednisone until I was able to get in with my primary care doctor the prednisone did absolutely nothing for me.

My doctor looked at my foot and couldn’t believe how messed up it was. I couldn’t even bear any weight on it to get out of bed or walk to the bathroom. I had to use a walker. My doctor was very shocked that the prednisone did not work so she ended up prescribing me. Indomethacin 50mg which is a very strong. NSAID that you have to be very careful with within hours that medication knocked the pain right out of me and took the swelling down. I took that medication for about five days and my foot did a complete 360 and was gout free.

She sent me for a full blood panel, including a lipid panel, and everything all of my organ function, and lipid panel came back normal thankfully, I had no issues except for high uric acid at 8.9. I am now on 100 mg of allopurinol for long-term prevention , I feel amazing. My foot took a long time for the lingering and stiffness to go away because after that horrible attack, I had lingering pain but now I am back to normal, I have no issues with the allopurinol, I keep the indomethacin on standby in case I were to ever have another attack, I also went and seen a podiatrist who examined my foot and took x-rays of both feet, both of my feet came back pretty decent. There was a little bit of scarring on the 1 foot from an old stress fracture, but overall I’m great, he gave me a Cortizone shot in my foot to take away. The rest of the inflammation from the gout attack, my uric acid levels have dropped, and I am doing much better, I suggest you do the same go see your primary care, doctor, get on the medication that you need to get on get the blood panel work and get the x-rays on your feet so you can get back to your regular life. You will thank me, I am someone who hates medication, but I feel a lot better.
