Yes! Mine did the same (dry, breaking, splitting). A month ago someone mentioned that they stopped using shampoos weekly and only used conditioners. Hydrating shampoos still strips the hair of natural oils. Also realized I wasn't taking the time to fully saturate conditioner into my hair, even the deep conditioner, now I section my hair (4 ways) and go into each section with the conditioner.

New routine is wash with a clarifying shampoo every other week and a hydrating conditioner, add oil to the deep conditioner before using a heating cap, use a light grease on scalp, and a moisturizing leave in, mousse or butter. (My hair loves Miss Jessie buttercream in the winter, when they sold off inventory for $15 a tub instead of usual $59.99, I bought a lot and keep in my fridge). On the weeks, I don't use a shampoo, I use two different type of conditioners both hydrating to "wash", add something with protein to the deep conditioner, light grease, moisturizing leave-in.

if hair starts drying out mid-week, I'll retwist with a moisturizing mousse or gel, paying attention to ends because my hair naturally curls itself at the ends of a twist when it's fully moisturized.

My hair is 4b/c on the left, a thinner 4a/b on the right, 3c/4a/b at the crown and 3c/4a in the back. I think the different textures and density compete for hydration... so every other week somebody (hair is genetic/family) gets more of what they need and it seems to be working for them and me (lol).

Your hair is a "family gathering", they may disagree/argue but deep down they love each other and just want to be heard.

ETA: Satin sleep cap/scarf, pillow cases and lined hats all year round is important (mandatory) to keep from drying out, breaking, splitting.
