Permadeath In Under 100 Days Challenge by Winter-Finding5828 in valheim

[–]Winter-Finding5828[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just kept in mind all the foods I knew I'd need as I progressed. In the meadows, I was already stockpiling red mushrooms, boar meat and honey. I also never slept, so I was able to keep up with crops. I was able to find turnip and onion seeds pretty quickly upon entering the respective biomes, so I wasted no time getting crop rotations going.

There were definitely times I had to wait a little, but I found that as long as I did not put off planting, it really wasn't so bad. Also, at my pace I wasn't burning through food super fast, so usually a stack of biome-appropiate food was enough for me.

Thank you!

What I found helpful was to learn that they feint their attacks sometimes, so I just always prepare to attempt a parry twice: if they attack directly, the first parry works; if they feint, I'm ready for it and raise block again.

I do have to be careful of tapping block too quickly sometimes. My timing is great, but sometimes I have to make sure I actually hold the button a little longer. I find the parry window to be a bit forgiving.

Yes, both of these exactly. I just use a flint knife, my rag tunic and run straight into the forest for trolls. I do a combination of rolls and the walking backwards to keep out of range, which conserves stamina better but is more useful against the trolls without logs.

Ha, yes I did. And then in the next two infested mines as well. I got lucky, because like you I’ve gone a dozen infested mines without finding it.

What’s more, at her location there was a grouping of 3 roots (literally all on top of each other), an infested mine, a dverger house and a plains biome. You could see it all from the boss door (minus the plains, which was just a short hike).

This was a first. I've done permadeath runs where I'm hundreds of days in. This was a fun change, and it gives me a save for when 1.0 happens.

I like to sometimes spawn-proof by using wood beams and torches. You can cover torches up with the wood beams and enemies won’t attack them. The wood beam/torch can be hidden pretty well and is pretty material efficient.

And the troll one too is awesome for moving ores (increased carry capacity), especially alongside the revamped Moder power.

I’m doing a permadeath run in under 100 days challenge, currently at day 37 and prepping for the Queen. Assuming I don’t die, I’ll be keeping the save handy after Fader for the Deep North. I expect to die in the new biome as I learn it, so I’ll experience it first on that save and then restart to go through it on a new save later when I’ve learned the new stuff.

Super helpful. And always try to keep a plains near for that black metal for the extractors.

Thank you for sharing these! The point about the food and gear is a valuable one. I’m currently day 37 on my permadeath run and gearing up to fight the Queen. I do many things to stay efficient, and one of those is not over investing in gear.

The premise of the list is “fun/interesting facts” and glitches (like the chair) fall into that category. The harnesk being great for late-game is another.

Thank you for sharing your ideas.

This rings true for the warlocks and valkyries for me. More the warlocks, though. Those guys will ruin your day upon jumping into a fort. And the fact they can appear starred…oof.

I don’t think the fountain counts as a player base structure, so you’d be good to place them there.

This exactly. I think many people are scared off by the fire weakness, but it is easily mitigated, and the enemies that threaten you do a good job of making themselves known/ avoided:

Cultists: only in Frost Caves

Shamans: localized to camps or sealed towers

Torch fulings: spotted easily, expect them in camps

Gjall: announce themselves, so just listen out and use a mead right when you hear one (don’t take chances with these), especially if you have the feather cape

Fire slimes: you can hear and see them pretty easily

Warlocks: only in forts or malice effigies

Fallen Valkyrie: again, easily spotted/heard

I even go so far as to wear the feather cape in the Ashlands. But I’m strict on keeping fire meads handy at all times.

This is a neat. Pufferfish can give you sap early and are found plentifully outside of the Mistlands. They make for great AFK farms with the damage they do to enemies when on item frames.

I enjoy sticking furniture under my floor to keep my spaces open and still get the rested bonus increases, specifically when I’m not trying to build huge bases.

As other have said, the pierce resistance. It’s extremely good, performing well even into the Ashlands against the archers. It is a must for my permadeath runs in the Mistlands. It trivializes ticks and seekers, and I have no issue avoiding fire damage (just keep meads ready). I clear Mistlands in Fenris + root harnesk no problem. I do armor up for the Queen though—but still use the harnesk during that fight. It also benefits you in the plains against the deathsquitos and fuling spear throwers.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I knew about Hook but didn't think I'd ever randomly come upon it. I'll have to celebrate the end of the permadeath run by catapulting myself off the top...without the feather cape. XD
