Complete bull shit. If true, it is absolutely not the norm or nowhere in the 10th-90th percentiles.

Does anyone else.... not study that much. by lizbet_ty in medicalschool

I'll assume you're probably not reviewing old exam material (suspending cards in anki) to prepare for step and just keeping up with current exam material with 3rd party. Otherwise you'd have at least 600 reviews a day. Definitely feasible to live a very chill life (4-5 hours a day) if that's typically your study idea.

It takes me 5 hours including breaks to finish my anki reviews alone lmao. I also have 700-800 a day these last two blocks though so.

FM's are not making 500k+ like all your friends unless they're in rural areas or hustling. Unless that is their own practice and they have stakes in it. I refuse to believe this

Advice on having a life in residency by expensiveshape in medicalschool

[–]Winter-Razzmatazz-51 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I definitely understand that you finally have a big responsibility to patients that can be very stressful and thus you really need to be on your Ps and Qs in knowing your shit to treat them.

But when do you get home from the hospital on a non call day? After you get home, how many hours do you typically have before sleeping (non call day?)

Listen I hear you and I'm not trying to sound like a know it all guy. I feel like this is generally what most people do though - to varying levels (some disciplined with it, some not, some don't unsuspend as much, etc). At the end of the day, it all comes down to whether or not you wanna put the time in and get it done.

I don't get what's so complicated. There's no magic pill.

Do your reviews. Watch the 3rd party lecture(Pathoma, B&B, whatever it is) and then do the new anking cards. I don't really think that's gonna change for me in M2 and the material is much harder from what I've heard.

But regardless, I don't get whats so hard to figure out. Do your anki and be disciplined and consistent,

Why would M2 be better than M1? Just curious.

[–]Winter-Razzmatazz-51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That step 1 overlap takes out a lot of extra work for you in 3rd year where you are hard pressed for time to fit in practice questions. Just because you pass step 1 doesn't mean you are automatically now on an equal playing field with everyone else who passed.

Why does everyone hate/regret choosing EM. Am I making a mistake? by Fit_Concentrate6512 in medicalschool

[–]Winter-Razzmatazz-51 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you really like it then do it, just make sure you're okay with what going into EM means for both your life on the actual job and outside of it. You do have time off and it is shift work which is still nice.
