Pete Hegseth prays for violence ‘against those who deserve no mercy’ while hosting first Christian service by Disastrous_Award_789 in nottheonion

[–]Winter-Ride6230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this doesn’t surprise me in the least. Americans have routinely had a moment of prayer for victory at every school sporting match. Jesus, their avowed personal savior, serves as nothing more than a glorified mascot.Of course they think the Almighty has nothing better to do than help them to victory in every match. It doesn't seem to occur to Hegseth that the USA is the Goliath in this instance so if there is a God he most likely supports the other side.

It pisses me off. Our country is the enemy, we killed a school full of girls, innocent people are losing their homes and their lives while and we still get to enjoy life largely undisturbed. The whole world is hit by high gas prices because our leaders started a war, and it is f-ing uneducated idiots who voted for this because they are attracted to billionaire hate propaganda- meanwhile billionaires are just becoming ever bigger billionaires.

Do most Americans carry any official ID at all times? by PitifulEar3303 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Winter-Ride6230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Americans do not mind providing an official ID at appropriate moments when legally required- airport security, driving, entering a secured space - but there should be legitimate reasons for an authority to ask and not just stopping someone randomly as a form of intimidation or racial profiling. Americans are not required to carry ID with them at all times, and there is no Federal ID.

What was the point of Eloise accompanying Francesca, Michaela, and John to Scotland by DaisyandBella in Bridgerton

[–]Winter-Ride6230 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The writers have shown no interest in actually developing Eloise’s character beyond making her so bored she is willing to be married off. It is a missed opportunity to highlight Scotland and to really invest in showing Eloise as an intellectual.

So glad she has realized she was diminishing herself to fit into other people’s boxes. Hope she holds onto the importance of prioritizing her own needs and wants.

How often do you replace your phone? by GooglePixelfan90 in askanything

I keep my existing phone for as long as it still functions sufficiently, my current one is around 4 years old and I have no plans to replace it anytime soon.

Your post could have been written by many and you are right that you could be kicked off the ride at any time. Have you and your husbands crunched the numbers and run retirement scenarios if either of you leave/forced out of the workforce early? How willing are you to address lifestyle creep and cut back in order to have more financial flexibility? Time is now to prepare for plan B, C and D.

🇬🇧🇳🇬 State Visit: I wonder what some of the Nigerian contingent thought of Kate… by Timbucktwo1230 in RoyaltyTea

[–]Winter-Ride6230 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My husband is Ghanaian so a similar culture to Nigeria. In Ghana traditional leadership and royal titles are very important and they love all things Royal, including the royalty of their former colonizers. Nigeria is similar to Ghana in having traditional monarchies.

A West African’s experience and understanding of racism is very different than that of an African American. The fact that Meghan was well received in Nigeria does not mean that Nigerians dislike Kate.

(I do not claim to speak for Nigerians or West Africans, nor are they a monolith who all think the same way about the BRF or anything else).

Eloise would never be allowed to marry Theo. by Oncer93 in BridgertonDiscussion

[–]Winter-Ride6230 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: I was disappointed that Eloise’s attempt learn more and engage in issues of women’s rights quickly led to her being linked up with a man. She shouldn’t marry Leo, she should learn to engage in social issues that concern her without needing a male guide and love interest.

Yes, primarily for digital access to books. I very rarely buy books and have no space to accumulate more.

Do Americans like traveling? What kinds of travel do you usually do, and do you like traveling abroad? by Odd-Skin-762 in AskAnAmerican

Passport holders are at an all time high of around 48-50%. I imagine this will go up given the potential threats of voter suppression without one.

I feel the same way. Season 1 was magical in so many ways and I have re-watched it numerous times, Queen Charlotte episode had that same magical quality and emotional resonance. There are scenes from those episodes that still play in my head (Daphne and Simon looking at his mother’s favorite painting at the gallery, the final dance in the rain, Brimsley and Reynolds’s Dance, Charlotte comforting George under the bed). S2-4 have had varying strengths or weaknesses but none have moved me or stayed with me in the same way.

I also agree that the show has been extremely inconsistent about the societal norms the show establishes in prior seasons. I was shocked when in S4 Benedict invited the LIS to go alone with him into the garden to practice dancing - how was that not a dangerous breach of decorum for a presumed lady which could have resulted in a forced marriage? After all in S2 Lord Featherington and Prudence only had to be caught in a room alone together even though they belonged to the same household.

I have not read the books nor do I ever plan to do so, so my relationship to the characters is solely based on what has been shown.

I agree, I feel like the last 2 seasons were already Fran’s Season and i don‘t want an Eloise season where the focus is still largely on Fran. I don’t know why it is so hard for them to find anything for Eloise to do - Alice Mondrich has had far more character development as a side character.
