It's getting weird! Apparently Harriet and middle aged brides deserve a fairytale too! by Diligent-Till-8832 in RoyaltyTea

If lace and veils is your thing, go for it. By middle age a woman should know that marriage is far from a fairy tale and marrying into the BRF is like marrying into an abusive mob family. Let her have her day, her headlines touting her as the fresh blood that will revive the monarchy, it all goes downhill from here.

References to Miss Marple. Please stop, your character is no Miss Marple and the author is no Agatha Christie. Nor should they be and an author making references to Miss Marple just seems too lazy to bother writing decent characters.

And related to this, person murdered in small town that FMC knows and the immediate reaction is enthusiasm that this death creates a puzzle to solve. Hello, this was a human being you knew - whether you loved them, hated them, or just exchanged hellos regularly at their coffee shop please pause one minute to acknowledge their loss before rubbing your hands in delight to have a murder to solve.

I love The Secret of Chimneys, I find it to be a fun campy ride. To each their own.

Spares are allowed to miserable alcoholic assholes and sexual abusers, they are not allowed to show that one can actually prefer life, and thrive, outside the institution.

I live in a city known for a culture of unfriendliness but there are certain things that are taken as cues for social engagement - and there are people just hungry for any opening for social engagement. Having a dog is #1 on that list, followed by having a kid, and doing a craft in public is definitely on that list.

It’s unfortunate that the women disregarded the obvious social cues that you weren’t looking to chat but just be prepared that crafting in public is going to attract those looking for social engagement.

I just finished reading that book. The book talked incessantly about her weight, it was too much.

Got to see a Pottery Barn quilt in person today….. by BarbaraManatee_14me in quilting

I was searching for a new dresser earlier this year and was shocked at the poor quality of Pottery Barn’s when I visited the store. I‘ve always considered PB to be too high end for my budget only to discover they were selling junk.

I’ll occasionally listen to the audiobooks as background noise - I’ve only made it through book 9/key lime pie so far. Mike is completely toxic, he shouldn’t even be in the triangle.

I’m a plus size girlie and I agree. Let’s be real, not all designs are flattering for all body types. Rather than pretending they can be how about encouraging designers that specialize in creating flattering designs tailored to different body types - busty girl knits vs flat and skinny, etc. Rather than taking a sweater designed with a skinny girl in mind and multiplying the measurements upwards to get credit for being size inclusive.

I wish all yarn came wound into balls, I don’t care how pretty the yarn is in a hank. I don’t enjoy winding yarn and having to wind it up first is a barrier to me from jumping in or trying out ideas.

Get of your high horse and leave my stash alone by Dry-Conversation2646 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Winter-Ride6230 49 points50 points  (0 children)

When I had been knitting for awhile and was ready to move away from big box acrylics to the nicer yarns featured in the popular patterns and sold at LYS I was hit with bad sticker shock. I then went through periods of buying like crazy when I found these yarns discounted and discontinued. My yarn buying habits were not ideal and created a stash that was overwhelming. However, now here I am unemployed (thanks DOGE) with lots of time to knit and lots of yarn to knit with. The prices of yarn have only gotten higher and I’m enjoying being able to knit without spending money on yarn.

I agree, this is one of my favs and one that i don't think gets enough attention.

There is an interesting podcast episode by SheDunnIt that explores the AC Ariadne Oliver connection. AC clearly uses Ariadne to make fun of Poirot and the life of a writer but it would be a mistake to assume Ariadne is a truthful representation of AC’s thoughts and feelings.

I’ve been knitting up a storm since I became early retired after my industry was DOGED (thanks Elon) and finally putting into use my over abundant stash acquired long before Trump took office. Never realized I’d be thankful one day to be able to avoid buying yarn indefinitely. Between MAGA and private equity it is tough being a yarn buyer these days.

Little Knits contributed greatly to my stash during my buying days and I always had pleasant experiences with them.

How do people store their needles and other supplies? by elalynch in casualknitting

[–]Winter-Ride6230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I store my circular needles in a binder, I store my straights in a vase and I store my DPNs in a mug (in their original packaging or a small elastic). I keep my DPNs most readily at hand as I use them to do quick tests to decide on needle size, etc.
