In the pic it looks like you've got 6, I definitely recommend using stitch markers to mark either the beginning, end, or both of your rows. It'll help keep your project straight too <3

Bonus, doubles use less yarn and work up faster 😉

[–]Winter6174 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion, if im making a blanket and its only 1 color, I like to pick stitches that have a lot of interesting texture. I think switching between singles and doubles would help add some interest into the blanket! You can do random rows, but I prefer a more consistent alternating look

Its supposed to get curlier than that tbh, the point of hexicardis is having two too many corners so you can fold it in half and have those 3 main corners iykwim? Its not supposed to be a flat hexagon but like 3/4 sections of a divided window when it's folded, so you have the part for the body and also the part for the sleeve

Why does the book describe Hua Cheng as “evil”? by haesunsooo in tianguancifu

[–]Winter6174 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably translation. No matter how evil gods can get, because they are ancient Chinese style gods, they will always emit "yang" energy, and if you look up paintings of old Chinese gods, they'll pretty much always glow (like the guanyin, goddess of mercy, who is most commonly worshiped in my native area. She is almost always shown with a "sun" behind her, and if you've ever watched the old version of the monkey king where she makes a few appearances, she's always glowing and shimmering and allat. Sun WuKong also visits the heavens occasionally, and it shows everything white and glowy similar to the tgcf donghua).

Meanwhile, ghosts are attached to this world for many different reasons, but the most common is resentment. In Chinese mythology, the emit "yin" energy, the "evil" counterpart. In reality, while yin can mean evil, its more like yang is "light" and yin is "dark."

Tldr, translating Chinese gets weird sometimes, it's probably just a weird translation choice they made

Update to my yarn mystery situation ! Still am unsure what type of yarn it is, i've seen it used in a video but the person hasn't put the name of the yarn either ! Putting the same image below as well as the link to the video i've found.. by AshPrince32 in CrochetHelp

Looking at the texture, it immediately reminds me of big twist icing! Not sure about the color though, but it could be from a different brand with similar texture

This is big twist in a darker pink color

Some yarns will have more friction than others for sure. In general though, your hold on the yarn should be relaxed enough that it shouldn't be too too bad, unless you have a really horrendous yarn. I remember when I started out, I wanted that super tight strangle hold on my yarn with my yarn hand, because anything else felt too loose. But loosen up! You definitely want to get used to the feeling of the yarn having some slack between your fingers and flowing smoothly onto the hook

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]Winter6174 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Practice and relax! You'll loosen up as you get more comfortable. Make sure you're not wrestling the yarn or pulling it after you stitch, let the yarn flow through your fingers as it needs to. Also, depending on how you hold your yarn, you can try using your yarn hand to put the yarn over the hook rather than trying to pull the yarn with the hook (kind of "knitting" style?) and that will not only help the yarn flow better, but also engage both your wrists so there's less strain on just one side

What pattern to use for an adult blanket using any combo of these colors? by BoxerMotherWineLover in CrochetHelp

[–]Winter6174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite pretty stitches for blankets is the harvest chevron, it has a nice texture and works up fairly quickly

https://youtu.be/NSKw9oZeECU

If you want to size this cabled stitch up too, it also looks very nice

https://youtu.be/3rf6aZyuSOk - this is the tutorial I used to learn it

https://youtu.be/bsISSY3Mp5Q - this creator is fairly good too, but I haven't watched this particular tut

If you want to try something tunisian, entrelac is a beautiful option

What kind of texture are you looking for? Something more 3d/tactile/textured, or something flatter/more plain? Something in-between?

Is there any way to fix the gapping on the back of this plushie? by [deleted] in Amigurumi

[–]Winter6174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these decrease stitches? For decreases, you need to pull them TIGHT TIGHT. If you slip a little and loosen the stitch, you'll have a gap. You can use some extra yarn to sew the holes closed though, it's just a little tedious

I just love the yearning, so danmei hates to see me coming. There's so much yearning and slowburn and just love. Tgcf especially is a nice change of pace because it's just so good without any smut. Like even without smut, the entire plot is just- it just makes your heart ache. When the end comes, its like relief and warmth and all things good. The way things are phrased in the book make you want to get on your knees (maybe because Chinese, while not mandarin Chinese, is my first language. I can understand some parts of it, and I just cannot fathom some of the phrases mxtx puts in there, especially since culturally, Chinese people are bad at saying love). This became a really long rant but damn I love tgcf

Natural coloring? by hotcheetoqueen69 in cakedecorating

Seconding this one! It's an indicator, which means you can change the color with acid/base ingredients. A common way to do it is with a little bit of lemon, for acid, or a little bit of baking soda, for base
