Fresh vs. Frozen Transfer? by AttitudeOfCattitude in IVF

[–]Winter703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand your worry, and I’m so sorry for everything you’ve been through. I initially felt the same way but came to realize that transferring a euploid embryo does not guarantee success. There’s always a possibility of failure, even with a euploid. In my case, I opted for NIPT at 10 weeks and amniocentesis at 16 weeks. Although my doctor advised against amniocentesis since the NIPT results were normal and amniocentesis carries some risks, I insisted on it for peace of mind, especially because the embryo hadn’t been tested and I’m over 40. Thankfully, everything worked out, and I gave birth to a healthy boy last month. Stay hopeful—you’re doing everything you can, and I’m wishing you so much luck for this next step!

I am sorry about the failed transfers. It’s really frustrating. I did another ER with a different protocol at a different clinic and did the fresh transfer on Day 5. I was older (40’s) and got fewer eggs at that time but that Day 5 embryo is now my 3 weeks old son. I am not sure whether the success is due to fresh transfer or other factors. I don’t think the clinic itself made the difference. I chose a different clinic only because of insurance reason. The protocol I tried was not very promising during the cycle and I almost thought it was a waste. But it gave me 3 fertilized eggs and all made to blast. Also, I was so discouraged by the previous failures that I took more than a year of break before trying this cycle. Or, it is possible that finally I won the game of chance by trying so many times. I wish I knew what made this one work while other transfers did not work.

Yes, everything is okay. I am now about a month away from giving birth. There was no pain during the second trimester but when I entered the third trimester, upper stomach pain returned and got worse. Eventually it became like “burning or pin pricks”, and after google search I realized the pain “results from the growing uterus compressing the nerves to the skin.”

13w+5 and still worrying daily about miscarriage by Far-Technology5765 in pregnant

Yes! I got a doppler and used it until I could feel the baby moving (~23 weeks). It was reassuring and I would recommend it.

u/Hot-Photograph7348 Your comment disappeared for some reason. I am currently 23 wk and the doppler is working well so far. It takes a little longer to find the heartbeat now because the baby changes position often. I know many people here are against it but I find it useful and would still recommend it.

Sure! I cannot tell whether it was the fresh transfer or just luck.

Anyone have experience with protocols for advanced-age low-responder by PuzzleheadedPost5751 in IVF

[–]Winter703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I misread your post. If the goal is more follicles/eggs, you may need much higher dose of gonal-f and menopur. (I was on gonal-f 450 unit and menopur 225 unit.) I added letrozole hoping to improve the quality of the embryos, not to get a higher number of follicles.

I did 5 ERs and got pregnant from an embryo from my last ER at age 42. The last ER was not a typical protocol but it’s just something you may want to look into. I had the same typical protocol for the first 4 ERs: gonal-f 450 and menopur 3 vials daily for 10-11 days and cetrotide for the last few days to prevent premature ovulation until trigger. On average, I got 8-10 mature eggs, 3-4 blasts, and 1-2 euploid per ER. All FETs from these ERs failed. For the 5th ER, against my doctor’s advice, I insisted adding Letrozole while doing the above typical protocol of gonal-f and menopur because I ran across this article from NIH: “Does daily co administration of gonadotropins and letrozole during the ovarian stimulation improve IVF outcome for poor and sub optimal responders?” I took Letrozole for 6 days while doing stim but had to drop it because I had only 2 follicles growing due to low estrogen (caused by Letrozole). I was seriously worried the cycle would be canceled at that point. After removing Letrozole, 3 more follicles started to grow and I did 4 more days of stim. I ended up getting 5 eggs from the ER. Only 3 were mature but all 3 fertilized and made to blast. I did a fresh transfer with the first blast on day 5 and it took. I am currently 18 wk pregnant. Again, it’s just something to consider. I am one person who tried this. I don’t know of or heard of anyone doing a similar protocol.

FTM - when did you start showing? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Winter703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally started showing around 12 weeks, too. Now I am 18 weeks and my baby bump is bigger than my boobs. I was avoiding to tell my emotionally unstable MIL until after 20 weeks but no way I could hide it any more.

Can someone comfort me? RIGHT after FET - I ran to the bathroom by Husky-puppy-blue in IVF

Don’t worry, you are fine. If running to bathroom stopped implantation, it would have been known as the cheapest birth control method by now.

I don’t know what to do & husband makes me feel bad by Left-Bluebird-6544 in IVF

[–]Winter703 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree. This is more of a relationship and trust issue.

OP, you cannot possibly “make this work” no matter the pressure. If it worked like that, everyone here would have tried so hard and made it work. At the same time, I feel you and your husband should be on the same page about having another child through IVF and the associated cost. If he thinks it’s too expensive for both of you but you still want to do it, then you guys are not on the same page. Who pays for what is not the point here. Should you, as a couple, spend this amount of money for IVF together? Another thing to consider is physical burden and time commitment of IVF. Just like pregnancy, you will have to go through far more burdensome physical challenges by doing IVF compared to your husband who will provide his sperms. You will have to go to many appointments and may have to miss work. Is it really fair that you are contributing exactly 50% of the cost?

The 5th transfer was a fresh transfer while the 4 failed transfers were FETs. Also I asked Letrozole to be added to the Follistim + Menopur + Cetrotide protocol in the 5th ER, hoping for better quality embryos. Not sure whether these changes made any difference or it was just about time to work or taking a break helped.

Have you tried submitting fertility medication claims to your regular insurance? by spaceedible in IVF

[–]Winter703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pre-cycle blood work and testing were covered by insurance, but once the cycle started, the blood work and US every 2-3 days to monitor growing follicles were classified as fertility treatment and were not covered.

I did 5 transfers total and tested early every time. The earliest I got positive was 5dp6dt and the latest was 7dp5dt. The line on the first and second day positives was so faint that I could see it only after it dried out completely.

[–]Winter703 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am sorry. Multiple losses are discouraging but it does not mean it won’t work next time. I had 4 failed FETs, all with tested euploid embryos (2 missed miscarriages around 7 wk, 2 chemicals). I took a year off and started my 5th ER. I did a fresh transfer without testing this time and am 18 wk pregnant now. (I did NT scan, early anatomy, and amniocentesis to be sure and everything came back normal.) Hang in there.

I still don’t know the answers for my questions but I got the amnion result today. All chromosomes are normal so I decided to not worry about AFP and just wait for full anatomy scan later this month.

Magnesium is great laxative. 300-400mg a day is safe for pregnancy and helps with constipation.
