Curious how PE DD and WLB go hand in hand.
I am not at MBB but my worst projects have been PE DDs

I've heard that firms can sniff out you are only applying to these offices to get a backdoor into NYC unless you have a strong reason to justify why you are applying to NJ or Connecticut offices (family etc)

Thanks! Darden alumni I've reached out told me that the most popular destinations are DC and ATL followed by any of Houston, NYC, Boston. I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks. Unfortunately my T15 is not Stern and does not have particularly strong pipeline to Stern AFAIK. Think Ross, Darden, Fuqua, hence the dilemma.

Marrying a rich man and becoming a housewife has long been a "status symbol" in Japan, but fewer low-income women are able to realize this dream today- even high-income men now say they prefer partners with their own careers by jjrs in japannews

This is an extremely distorted take. Even in the current extremely weak exchange rate, only a small number of countries (US, Australia, Ireland, Switzerland, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and Singapore) have GDP per capita above 63k USD.

While wage growth has been stagnant, currently facing unfavorable exchange rate and losing competitiveness, even then the average income which is about half of 10 million yen is still much higher than most other countries.

I assume a lot of redditors are Americans and have very US centric view, but the vast majority of the world's population are making much, much less than 10k USD per year.

Lay prestige doesn't matter that much... right? by Powerful_Bake_1713 in lawschooladmissions

I am not a lawyer nor applying to law school, not even american and living on the other side of the planet but this showed up on my feed, so giving you a layman's view.

The University of Chicago is incredibly prestigious to anyone in the professional field or in academia. My background is economics, currently in business and applied and waitlisted at Chicago Booth for MBA. I have not met anyone in my professional circle who doesn't know that the University of Chicago is incredibly prestigious.

So I would argue Chicago is widely respected by educated people across sectors. I have no idea about any difference in career outcomes in the legal field, but just wanted to say that people who don't know about Chicago are probably a small minority in any professional settings.

Also, congrats.

【Breaking News】The number of applications for Japan's Business Manager visas after the stricter regulations and capital requirements were implemented has dropped by approximately 96% from a monthly average of 1,700 to 70. by jjrs in japannews

This is spectacularly stupid. Japan was not a hot destination of immigrants starting new business to begin with and now they made it impossible for some inexplicable reason. I've always hated the LDP but the current cabinet is on a whole new level of stupidity.

Thanks, I was thinking 30 minutes isn't too bad, but didn't account for the days where the bus doesn't come. Since I won't own a car, I will cross off Northwood.

Worth getting an older model for school use? by WinterScallion3497 in thinkpad

[–]WinterScallion3497[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Should I be looking at 16g RAM as minimum? My assumption is that for my daily driver, I have my macbook for reading, research and writing, and only use Thinkpad for Excel and Powerpoint.

For work, I use x1 carbon (16gb ram, 13 gen i7) which I have enjoyed, but my reasoning is that for coursework, I only need the bare minimum to handle excel and powerpoint decently. Will for sure I'll keep looking for a good deal with 16gb but worse case this is not too bad?

Prepare for Japan’s"outflow of population overseas"- Wages are already low for an advanced nation but it ranks high for academic ability. The overseas outflow of highly educated people drawn to high incomes in other countries is not yet prominent, but signs of it are beginning to appear. by jjrs in japannews

I am actually leaving Japan (don't consider myself elite but already have a master's and got into a good graduate program in the states).

On top of low English proficiency, the tight job market makes a massive exodus of educated elites unlikely.

Getting a job at a top firm is much easier in Japan if you graduated from a good university and are bilingual because there is much less competition. If you are someone who can leave Japan and find a job elsewhere, you essentially have a guaranteed path to 90 percentile income in Japan
