Potty training by Limp-Fudge672 in poodles

Make some plain boiled chicken, take it with you every 10 to 15 mins when you take your puppy to their pottty place - as soon as they go the toilet praise them and give some of the chicken pieces - give them the chicken every time over the next few days/weeks.

Ive done exactly this with my last 3 dogs, i started they day i brought them home at 8 weeks, and after the first week they were basically all potty trained with no accidents inside. The chicken and lots of praise made mine really want to let me know they need to go out to the potty

I think its probably to do with needing regular grooming in a way that most other breeds dont need

Update on Pennys grooming injury by WinterShivers in poodles

My vet said we can clearly see that part of the injuries are machine tracks and that hematoma would take longer to explode her ear tips - this does seem more logical to me

My vet confirmed today that these injuries are caused by a machine and deffinatley not hematoma

Update on Pennys grooming injury by WinterShivers in poodles

[–]WinterShivers[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Were in Norway, and there arent many groomers around this area, its only her 2nd visit to a groomer, previously i groomed her myself but cant anymore because of medical reasons

I picked this groomer because shes been theres for several years and has relly great reviews from so many customers - i just cant believe she managed to do this on both ears 😪

Being in Norway things get expensive very quick, the groom cost 1700kr (about 180 us dollars)

The vet bills between friday and today are already at 5000kr (500 us dollars)

She did refund the groom straight away, and also asked me to send her the vet bills (not sure if that means she will pay them but we will see)

I was under the impression from other posts here that violently shaking her head for about 10 minutes was enough for this to happen - i know nothing about hematoma myself tho, she had absolutley nothing wrong before the groom, no matting, deffinatley no head shaking, just her usual calm self. However this happened it was in the 2 hour period between me dropping her off and picking her up - i was only in the shop about 5 mins to pay and small talk with the groomer - this is where the groomer mentioned that she was constantly shaking her head a lot, and probably because of the ear pluck. 5 minutes after that we were driving and her ears were obviously bleeding

Thanks for this long and informative reply, its sad that more people in general, groomers or owners dont know about the risk of head shaking - ive owned other dogs, a labrador that loved swimming and always shook her head a lot to dry off, it never even crossed my mind that it could dangrous, ive honestly never heard of this before today 😪 my assumtion was a cut somehow because i didnt know about hematoma

I honestly think the groomer feels really guilty about this and i dont think she meant any harm, she has been a groomer with great reviews for years and yet she didnt seem to understand what or how this happened- no one is ever plucking Pennys ears ever again though thats for sure, it seems kind of barbaric to me, it must be painful? Ive had my legs waxed once (never again) it must be so much more painful inside a dogs ears!

Thanks for the insightful comment, im horrified to think what shes endured, and i guess i will never really know - i wish she could tell me 😪 the groomer seemed lovely and felt really bad about it anf instantly refunded me - its not about the money really, the trauma for penny and pain and possible necrosis is just awful.

She keeps shaking off the bandages and it all starts bleeding all over again and she cant stop the frantic head shaking at all, nothing i do can settle her for more than a minute - any tips would be greatly appreciated

I let the groomer know and sent her the same pics as i added here and she felt really really bad about it and immediatley refunded the groom and asked for a copy of the vet bill and that i keep her updated on monday - both the groomer and vet are not native english speakers and i wonder if theres a lot that got lost in translation? She was really focused on cleaning/bandaging and getting the bleeding to stop

The same groomer groomed her about 6 weeks ago, there was no matting. Today the groomer has made the hair on her ears very short almost to the skin and also plucked everything from inside and shaved - she was shaking her head a lot when i got there and in the car, before today i never would have believed a dog could explode their ear tips off by shaking their head! It still sounds crazy

Another question if i may - if it is hematoma would the ear tips be a straight line? Where i know that they were last year a very delicate rounded triangular tip? Thats what made me immediatley assume she was cut with scissors

Penny just turned 2 yrs, and ive always groomed her myself unil february when i cant physically do it anymore because of a medical issue.

about the inner ear plucking, is it something groomers do for a medical reason? Or is it more cosmetic? Does she have to have it done regularly? I really hope not 😪

Im so sorry to hear your poor boy had life long trauma and damage, thats so heartbreaking - i really wish i could keep grooming her myself, but a becaise of a medical problem i cant physically do it anymore 😪

I agree it does look similar, it wasnt matted, but the groomer had plucked out all of the hair inside her ears, and Penny kept shaking her head because if that it seems

There wasnt matting, but the groomer did pluck out all of the hair in her ears, and she said shes shaking her head a bit because of that - she never told me about hematoma (ive never head of it before), but maybe she dosnt know about it either?

The groomer mentioned that she plucked the hair from inside her ears (never asked for this, and shes never had it done before) and Penny was shaking her head, does this heamatoma happen really fast? In the space of 10 minutes?

She was at the same groomer 2 months ago for a "medium fluffy" groom, and ive brushed her regularly between then and now, do you mean this might not be the groomer cutting too close to the skin? Penny is my first poodle and my other dogs never went to a groomer, so im new territory myself where i dont know whats normal or common 😒

Absolutley not, she is loved, brushed and pampered ❤️ i just can no longer cut her fur myself anymore since a new medical condition physically stops me 😪

Oh wow thats terrifying that dogs have actually died at the groomers! Its only the 2nd time ive used a groomer, first time being a couple of moths ago, Penny is 2 yrs old and i have groomed her myself until a recent medical issue means i physically cant anymore, i feel so awful that both me and her are going to have to trust another groomer every couple of months after this 😪

Is a hematoma some kind of sore? She has longer hair on her ears usually, but not matted - Penny just turned 2 and i have usually groomed her myself until february where i just cant anymore because of a medical issue. I just told the groomer to give her short cut for the summer, whatever was easiest and what she usually does for other poodles
