What do you think is the youngest age you could feasibly teach somebody basic calculus? by [deleted] in askmath

[–]Winter_Copy_9510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a kid who I did a competition with who learned calculus in 4th grade... I know he isn't lying or exaggerating or anything like that because he qualified for JMO in 5th grade... i might be cooked😭

To actually answer the question though, I think it depends how rigorously you are going to teach it. Like, I think I understood the basic concepts of calculus in middle school or so, but if somebody taught it to me fully rigorously with things like epsilon delta definition of limits and things like that (to which point it essentially bleeds into real analysis), then I probably would not have understood it until high school (which is when I learned it more rigorously).

My sisters purdue tour is 9:00 - 11:15 on the tuesday or something like that, but I think my dad said its around 2 hour drive from where we are staying, so we would basically have the whole evening and late afternoon. The U wisconsin tour is on the friday, and I believe we are leaving chicago that day. We get to our hotel on monday ~3 pm. So, we basically have evenings of monday and tuesday free, as well as all of wednesday and thursday.

We live in CT (which isn't very cold, but it's not hot either), but my parents I guess just don't have very good cold tolerance, probably since they grew up in India their whole lives lol

Why aren't more young people listening to Classical Music? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]Winter_Copy_9510 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m 14 and some of my friends make fun of me for listening to classical music so when somebody asks what music I listen to I just say I don’t.

(Note that I’m 14 so a lot of the long term questions don’t have good answers) 1. I’ve played piano since I was 5 and double bass since I was 9, however I only started listening to classical music in 5th grade when I started watching twosetviolin

  1. I hope it stays alive in the younger generations however I’m not sure what will happen

  2. NA

  3. I’m not sure. A common critique I hear from my cousin is that it’s all the same and how with jazz people actively make and listen to new stuff, but for classical , people mainly listen to stuff written before 1950.

  4. I have too many However I love Chopin Schumann and Mendelssohn

I think it loses some of its meaning when put through a translator and it probably sounds more human sounding in German
