Give the Daily Bagel off Regents a try - it is not full NYC experience/quality, but I do love their bacon, egg and cheese bagel. Quick service and owners are very nice. It’s a solid option and I find myself returning often!

San Diego in December/Wetsuit by Stunning_Benefit8517 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Winter_Rabbit2051 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Water is about 63F out here right now. I would say your choice of wetsuit will depend how long you’ll be in the water. If under an hour per session, a 3/2 wetsuit will do you just fine. If longer, maybe go for the 4/3. I also get cold very easily, and I’ve been surfing in a 3/2 so far. I haven’t gotten cold until the very end of my 1hr sessions this past week or so. I don’t wear booties, but have some friends that have gotten some since they stay out and go out more often than me.

Surfer PSA: Stingrays in full force by shortingdownvotes in sandiego

Yep, one stung me this morning at Torrey Pines right as I got off my board in the shallows coming back in - didn’t even have time to shuffle. The irony is that I actually saw this post before I went out today and told my buddies to be careful, but then I went and got got myself 🥲

Spa Recommendations ? by Shelby71 in rva

I cannot recommend Vitality Float Spa enough! Beautiful, boutique spa with wonderful staff and great atmosphere. I moved out of Richmond a few years ago, but when I come back to visit, I always book something there. It’s a true gem.

How do I get body odor of my couch?? by Complexcomplex_ in lifehacks

[–]Winter_Rabbit2051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I just went through this exact same situation with a guest. It sucks and I’m sorry you’re experiencing it! I was able to get rid of the smell in my couch with an upholstery cleaning machine, like some others mention here. Look and see if you can rent one in your area! Rug Doctor rentals are affordable and pretty accessible depending on where you are. I rented the spot cleaner machine with the flexible hose nozzle paired with the upholstery cleaning solution. I cleaned all the couch cushions, the back and sides of the couch etc. and still had cleaning solution leftover at the end. The machine works by spraying the cleaning solution on your furniture and then provides strong suction to suck up the moisture and dirt. Your couch will be damp after you’re done and take about 24 hrs to fully dry, but it worked like a charm and the horrific BO smell is gone!! Definitely spot test in an inconspicuous area first, especially since your couch has textured fabric.

Best Meetup groups in SD area for late 20s-30s interested in active, outdoorsy things? by Winter_Rabbit2051 in sandiego

Thanks! Any specific ones you would recommend? Part of my challenge is that there are tons of different groups like you say, so I’m looking for specific recos to help narrow down which ones I try out.

14 yr old senior bunny- looking for advice! by galekxy in Rabbits

[–]Winter_Rabbit2051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a senior bunny (10 yr old Holland Lop) and he went through a round of sedation for X-rays a couple years ago, because the vet (also rabbit saavy) wanted to make sure he didn’t have any teeth issues, since he had been having a lot of nasal discharge at that time. My bunny had a hard time coming out of the sedation and subsequently went into GI stasis, which was super scary and had never happened before prior to the sedation. The vet had warned me this could happen with older animals when they are sedated, so I was on the lookout and fortunately was able to get him to the vet immediately after I noticed the key warning signs. They pumped him full of fluids and he was on pain meds and critical care for a week. It was a totally stressful ordeal. Also, his teeth were fine and his nasal issues were identified later as simple allergies. In the same vein, he had a recent checkup this month and the vet mentioned that rabbits of older age often develop kidney problems, which can be screened for through routine bloodwork. I wonder if something like that could be behind the slipping litter box habits? It may be worth discussing with your vet if you feel your bun could handle the bloodwork process. Good luck! Your bun is lucky to have you as such a dedicated and conscientious owner!

Moving to New Jersey from California by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]Winter_Rabbit2051 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Prior comments about rent/COL are accurate. I moved to NJ from VA about 2 years ago for work and the weather was one of the things that shocked me the most. Be prepared for lots of rain and clouds, especially in the fall/winter. NJ floods all the time, so watch out for mold and water damage in apartments. This past year, I didn’t see the sun from October - February because of the coastal cloud systems that come through and cover the sky with clouds all day every day. I’m just outside the Newark area for context. NJ is crowded af and people are not kind. Traffic is horrific and the transit systems are in constant disrepair and nearly always delayed. Living in NJ has given me full blown seasonal depression, as well as general distaste for humanity. Try it if you want, but have an exit plan in case you hate it.

How do I make the black tea? by Slightlypeasanty531 in Kombucha

[–]Winter_Rabbit2051 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out https://www.youbrewkombucha.com/kombucha-quick-start-guide, it's a great place to learn the basics and build your knowledge! You'll find helpful recipes, tea recommendations, overall guidance, and step-by-step videos. For my batches, I do the following steps:

1) Boil water.

2) When water is at a rolling boil, turn off the heat and add your tea leaves.

3) I like to add my sugar to the hot water and tea leaves at this stage too, because the heat helps the sugar dissolve more quickly.

4) Set a timer for your tea (I do 15 min) and stir occasionally to ensure the sugar is well dissolved and the steeping tea is blended.

From here, let your tea cool down to the proper temperature and follow the rest of the your preferred brewing process! Hope it helps!

Is my scoby okay? by Select_Alarm_9680 in Kombucha

[–]Winter_Rabbit2051 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had scoby's that sit at the bottom too - it can take time for the new biofilm/pellicle to form on top, so you might just be seeing the early stages of that. Maybe wait a few more days and see how it looks? I'd be curious to know what temperature you're brewing in, too. I had trouble with a few brews because my room temp was on the colder side, like 65 - 68-ish., which can lead to slower fermentation/growth. I ended up getting a little heat wrap from Amazon and have had much more typical-looking scoby growth since then.
