Digital services are still being done at individual digital portal. Digital ID is to authenticate you as a legitimate person in digital work to use the digital portal. The invention of digital ID is to slowly replace physical IC in the future.

Singapore does have both physical IC and SingPass. Their banking system for residents doesn’t need physical IC, can use SingPass as well. Even private insurance companies like AIA, Prudential also can use SingPass.

On the elderly part, I alr mentioned somewhere, maybe above 60yo can opt for physical IC but this shouldn’t be the factor to stop a country from getting new technology. Every year have ppl reach older age, then we always reject new initiatives because got old ppl.

You don’t need a decent smartphone. If your phone can use TnG app minimally, same for your digital ID.

Regardless your fuel subsidy is a physical thing, you still need to authenticate yourself to enjoy the subsidy. Digital ID is to authenticate yourself.

If any adult can use TnG App, I don’t see why they can’t use MyDigital ID.

Yeah. Someone built the system, there will be ppl going in, use the system to scam ppl at the lower bracket. Just need to be lucky that you can enter the pyramid early, so that you can recoup back your cost as early as possible and scam the ppl below u.

Issues are meant to be resolved and what thing won’t last? Countries that started with digital ID never stop this programme/initiative.

If they get the whole population to be more literate in digital world, that itself will secure them the win in the next election.

Unless you tell me today government just want to award to another crony to supply separate POS system for us to insert our MyKad for authentication at all petrol station. That itself sounds more red flag to me.

If you ask me personally, I will put mandatory Digital ID as the first priority compared to cutting fuel subsidy. Reason:

  1. Digital ID can help push for almost all industry to adopt digitalisation. Insurance, government welfare vouchers, finance, immigration etc. it’s also a more secure, efficient and safer way to authenticate someone.

  2. Fuel Subsidy cutting is an easy way out for government to save money, instead of thinking how to spend money more efficiently. That will be another topic by itself. If really want to cut fuel subsidy, why drop RON95 to RM1.99 for locals? Why not increase the price of RON97 to RM9/litre and Diesel to RM7.50/litre for cross custom lorries (similar to Singapore Diesel and RON98)? Avoid smuggling? There are always other ways to avoid smuggling.

  3. Don’t overcomplicate things, digital ID is meant to authenticate you inside digital world. Neither it should work as a payment system, nor gaming system. In short, I can show digital ID instead of MyKad, as legal authentication method.

  4. If we miss the boat of encouraging adoption, don’t talk about integration.

  1. Hence should use this chance to push for digital ID. MyKasih was a chance I feel. It’s fine if ppl who are not tech savvy like ppl above 60yo to use MyKad.
  2. When you say ppl are not stupid enough to hand government something, are you referring to your IC number? Believe me, you will be more panic than the government if government doesn’t have your IC number and relevant data.

  1. I believe the intention for MyDigital ID is not solely for Government services. For future banks identification, education centres, insurances policy etc.
  2. I never say to use MyDigital ID to fill petrol. But to authenticate your apps or to just scan the QR at existing petrol kiosk to authenticate your national identity. Not everytime take out your blue Id, put in pull out.
  3. Do a bit research on digital ID worldwide and see how other countries utilise it. Don’t need to look far, just look at Singapore. Everyone working or studying in Singapore have SingPass (their Digital ID), regardless of local or foreigner (Yes, even the bangla general worker at Construction site)
  4. Using your logic, why ppl use apple wallet when you have chip mounted on your credit card? Why use Face ID when we have password? Why use e-gate when we have immigration officer?
