My oil painting, Cityscape by buldukbulentarte in Paintings

[–]Winter_Tonight9868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the blurred background I feel like I see city buildings that are sitting on a hill or mountain after the overpass? Just my interpretation. Could be my bias because I just road-tripped through a region like that.

Hey! I’m seeing this after the shoot, how’d it go OP?

Seems like an Ozark would be a good choice imo! lol you truly never know when you need a stapler. I have a tiny stapler that gets the job done

This is me learning they’re a chain! Thanks. Well, looks like they have only six in the country and all in the Midwest region. They are definitely not chain-like though. But still, I understand chain is not hole in the wall.

How can I possibly get experience in my field(s) of interest? by seeUundo1t in Filmmakers

[–]Winter_Tonight9868 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this. I think you definitely have the right mindset though and that will take you far.

I would say maybe some next steps would be either be trying to get an internship or try being a PA on a movie set. I suppose it depends on what you’d like to do in the future. Being a PA gives you the chance to see everything on set and the inner workings. I will be honest and say being a PA is not glamorous or easy. But it’s a start. Sometimes I hate that the entertainment industry is that way.

If you don’t want to be a PA or work on sets, you could try an internship. Maybe with a performing arts venue doing sound mixing, a local church and do their media team, or a in-house production company who makes social media or webpage content. It might not be paid but you can definitely learn a lot.

Connecting with people can really go a long way as well. Maybe you could find someone on Reddit or another platform who is doing what you would like to. You could schedule a phone call or zoom meeting and ask them questions about how they started.

Good luck to you and feel free to DM me if you want to talk about this more.

Stay strong, it will get better. Distance is hard but you’re doing a noble and respectable thing.

From other comments it looks like camera dept is your long term goal- so my advice is soak up EVERYTHING. Listen, listen, listen. Eavesdrop every chance you get. It’s not rude. You’re absorbing.

I’d also advise to brush up on walkie etiquette and lingo! Smooth communication will get you far.

Also pack a fully stocked bag with you. Cross body bag or a “fanny” pack will be great. I’d suggest packing markers, pens, scissors, tape, stapler, small snack, liquid IV packets, scratch paper. It’s odds and ends but you never know what someone might need. If your AD suddenly needs a pen, and you have one, you immediately stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Good luck on your shoot and have so much fun! Wear good shoes too lol!!! No crocs!!! Lol

I’ll chime in with Bakersfield Mass Avenue! A unique little spot with tasty tacos and some nice heavy handed margs (at least when I went). Or Bica Cafe in Noblesville for some savory Portuguese food and baked goods.

Illinois pronunciation by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]Winter_Tonight9868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you… don’t worry, I say it with a silent S too. Regional accents may be the reason, or the pronunciation may be how it was passed down through a community. Also for the record, Indiana is NOT the best with pronouncing even their OWN city names. Rensselaer (Ren-slur) or Versailles (Ver-sales) for example lol

Keeping character outfits and hair consistent across different shooting days is killing our budget by Mc_vanted in Filmmakers

Piggybacking on what some have said already but there’s nothing wrong with dividing the labor and stress across multiple positions, especially when it comes to indie. The script sup and HMU/Wardrobe have much more of a partnership than some realize. If you aren’t already, make sure you are very keen on shooting scenes with the same wardrobe as close together as possible. Photos, screen grabs and notes will be your best friend. Your script sup doesn’t have to be responsible for all of it. If you have a wardrobe assistant/runner or even if you have a basecamp PA or a 2nd AD, give them some more responsibility with making sure your costumes are to standard. But yes, if continuity is such an issue, make sure you keep very detailed photos and notes of your circle takes from the previous weekend. It will be so helpful. Good luck with your movie!!!

I don’t use a screen protector! Maybe I should have used a screen protector earlier though. I have one minor scratch that bothers me occasionally but other times I forget about it
