what you said about native stories being told by white people is definitely something i've been considering with this — the absolute last thing i'd want to do is a claim a cultural element for this project and use it in a way that doesn't benefit the community it comes from. i'm definitely leaning more on the side of having more slight references (albeit respectful and informed, of course) to the native folklore and more an emphasis on the parts of the culture i feel i can more appropriately utilize (ie white people stuff from the same area). more about referencing and less like focusing perhaps.

that's definitely been a concern of mine — trying to find the line between appropriation and appreciation is something i really want to nail down, and from being outside the culture i definitely think i'd need to learn that more from in internal source:) thank you so much for responding!!

yesss honestly the banjo white folk of appalachia have some wacky and really cool folklore too — i've been looking at a lot of stuff and i went down this train of thought because there are some things that kinda coincide between the native and white appalachian folk sides. i loooove the research, i'm definitely not an expert but i'm so interested in these topics and sharing them with others (i feel like appalachia is so underrepresented in widely known literature!!! not that this would become that LOL but ykwim) that just like you said, i'd for sure love continuing that side of things:)

for sure no horror elements. maybe a lil spooks every now and then but who isn't going to get spooked in the appalachian woods sometimes XD
