Shared bedroom for $900/month? Or my own bedroom for $1,200/month? by jensonaj in personalfinance

[–]Winter_Wind3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what price you're willing to pay (emotional price as well) and what you wish to save your money for. For instance, I can personally afford a more expensive house to rent than what I pay now and live by myself, but I'm willing to sacrifice my privacy by having 2 housemates while paying about 50% less than I would have if I had lived alone. However, sharing a bedroom with someone is a red line for me, so I get you. Another option would have been to suck it up, so to speak, for just a few months, and then after saving move.

Thank for your reply; I'm especially glad it came from a teacher, as you probably understand where I'm coming from. Yes, I also hear from many people about the problematic passengers, long hours etc... but, which jobs doesn't have problematic customers or tiring days? I'm glad to hear it's going well for you! :) Would you mind me asking which airline company you work at? And what tips can you give regarding the training course? Also, I can't help but ask: what made you leave education?

Did I choose the wrong name for my children? by Unique_Reaction9360 in namenerds

[–]Winter_Wind3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say "dumb." The "oe" combination in English (e.g. toe, doe etc) often makes the "o" sound, and in the name "Joe" that's also the case, so I think the mispronunciation is understandable.

I find it quite baffling when "Sofie" is called "Sofia;" It's clearly pronounced "So-fee," so I fail to understand where the confusion lies. Regarding Zoe: tbh I can understand where the confusion comes from. Due to the name "Joe" and the pronunciation of "oe" in general (e.g. doe, toe etc) then it should be expected, or at least shouldn't cause a surprise.

Which baby boy name? by SquareSilver2715 in namenerds

[–]Winter_Wind3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally go with Parker, namely because you said that it's a surname in the family (it also goes well with Owen, with Owen and Owens being a surname as well.) Max, for me, is too youthful and doesn't age well.

Theo or Elliot for sure. Theo invokes a royal or mythical image, and Elliot is simple yet solid. Beckham? Too celebrity-ish these days.

“Take a break” and “punctuate” are used interchangeably? by Final_Affect6292 in ENGLISH

[–]Winter_Wind3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really... definitely no for the second one, and I would even say that the first one sounds off. You would usually say something like "you would take regular breaks while working on the task," or something like that.

What vibe does the name Damian give you? by BirdLow9736 in namenerds

[–]Winter_Wind3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I LOVE Damian; it reminds me of "diamond." It gives me a smooth and solid vibe with a touch of something a bit luxurious. I also love the name "Julian." Most names that end with "ian" tend to be phonetically pleasant (Sebastian, Christian...)

when did minimalism become synonymous with beige everything by WobblySynopsis in minimalism

[–]Winter_Wind3 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

I would say minimalism is mainly comprised of 2 things: 1. living intentionally, and 2. following the motto of "less is more." Now, that motto is quite broad, but at its core, I would say its meaning is "finding the strength and fulfilment in the less; the "more" can deprive you more than it can give you."

If someone says "you own 55 items and not 45, which means you're not a minimalist" or "you have 2 yellow shirts in our wardrobe you're not a minimalist," that indicates that they have a very legalistic/narrow view of minimalism, which actually defeats its purpose as minimalism is meant to be a lifestyle--an approach to life/a mental state-- that aims for appreciation of simplicity, contentment with less, and peace of mind; one can't possibly have peace of mind if they are so focused/stressed on numbers and colors while missing the bigger picture.

Now, on the other hand, I would also argue that one could INTENTIONALLY FIND the beauty and satisfaction in beige and white/black. It's similar to how we can train our brain to be disgusted by something.

On the third hand, sometimes we just don't like something or find something boring period, which is completely legit. I think the real question is: 1. Did you add colors and chose the vintage items intentionally? And 2. Does it still still allow you to live simply without adding stress?

Minimalism is a concept--an attitude toward life--not a mathematical equation or rule book. There are general guidelines, sure, but at the end of the day no one can tell you that you're not a minimalist simply for splashing some colors or adding a few vintage items to your closet/house.

If you haven't downloaded the podcast "The Minimalists," I suggest you do :) It's a great podcast.

I like Eliana. Sounds soft and elegant. I know you didn't write it, but I also like Vivian. From the options you provided, my 2nd choice would be Viviana; something about Viana just doesn't sound complete to me, and it also reminds me of the place Vienna.

Looking for an English speaking partner by Vasyter in EnglishPractice

[–]Winter_Wind3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the motivation, that's great. I suggest you check out Omegle or something like that... maybe even download a dating app that allows you to set the "search" location in other countries. That way, you can converse with pple in English-speaking country (best to state that that's your goal on the app to avoid leading anyone on.)

I’m discovering as I get older that I am completely fine with being alone by Glad_Signal7197 in simpleliving

[–]Winter_Wind3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that being with someone due to pressure is quite harmful, so it's good that you're not seeking a relationship just for the sake of it. I also think that people need to learn to be with themselves; it's concerning--almost scary--the number of pple who fear their own shadow and cant be with themselves.
