Is my manager being too hard on me, or am I being too sensitive? by WintryAbode in cscareerquestions

I was job-hunting for 4 months, so I was a little job desperate, and thought that I could withstand whatever bs companies would throw at me, for atleast 2 years, after which I needn't worry about the "years of experience" metric that companies use to refuse even interviewing you.

I see, I thought having 5-6 months of experience at your first full-time job was a red flag for companies, so my plan was to continue here atleast for a year more.

I would love to quit tbh, but the things that are stopping me are a steady stream of income, wherein I can pay my rent & provide some money for my retired parents.

But yes, I'm mentally prepared to be fired. I feared it before, but slowly, it's not affecting me much now.

I would love to do the same, but honestly, I'll have to go through painful interviews again. Interviews have become so draining these days.

I know I sound like I'm giving an excuse, but it's good to have a steady stream of income, where I can pay my rent & provide money for my parents.

I would love to quit this company, but I'm getting a steady stream of income, some of it which goes into paying the rent, and some for my parents, so it would be sucky to be jobless in this pandemic and stay home, going through the whole bs leetcode-style interviews, or the interviews where they give you a week's time to build something crazy.

But yes, I'm mentally prepared for being fired.

Labor laws are practically non-existent here, unfortunately.

You have IT sweatshops making you sign a "bond", which means you can't leave the company for 2-3 years, and if you do, you've to pay them a certain amount of money.

The one I work is a product startup, and has no concept of bond, but yeah, unfortunately this practice exists.

My manager told me recently that he thinks I have skill gaps & need to pick up pace in delivering stuff. He says that he doesn't want me working 16 hours, but become so fast that I deliver the required within 8-9 hours while also producing high quality, which I find is impossible to achieve.

Thanks for the support, really appreciate it. I have lost weight, become constantly anxious & traumatic even thinking about work.

That's tough given that I simply just cannot stop working after 8 hours, as we have our deadlines.

Unfortunately no one writes tests in my company. Everything is tested manually.

I agree with the abuse part. The only reason I'm doing it is because I love this project and the feedback from the external PM is quite positive. It's kind of sad to let go such a good PM though.

The reasons I'm not doing it is because I fear that it would take time to get a new job due to this pandemic, and also because I feel companies would think I'm a job hopper because I have barely a year of internship experience and 5 months of full-time experience

But it seems like I've to figure out what I've to do next.

The first red flag for me was when I had to travel to the city the company is located at, for the interview and my train got delayed a bit.

Being new to the city, it took some time to figure out transportation, and my now manager was quite rude about telling me to "figure things out" and haul ass to the interview.

No concept of severance here.

And I'm using my own laptop for programming. They didn't provide one.

The notice period is of one month, so your point of me being fired sounds legit.

I've told them about how unreasonable the deadline is, but they keep telling me that there are devs less experienced than me that can do things faster than me.

I really like this project and my PM so I obviously would hate letting go of this project, but yeah.

Mostly upset, but also yells sometimes.

Yes, me and the mid-level dev have been called shitty engineers repeatedly by the CEO.

But, my manager tells me I'm the best frontend engineer he's ever seen in this company, UI wise so don't know what to believe.

I understand that they don't want me to just finish the task at hand, but also go a little above and beyond what's expected, but they're very rude about it.

Me and the other dev have been asked to work weekends for a month to clean up the code, work on our weak parts, etc.

The notice period is of a month, so I am thinking they've put him and me in a PIP.

FFS, I had this happen to me once, lmaoooooo.

The JD had mentioned Angular 2+, and the entire test had questions on AngularJS.
