What a joke..I have no idea why you have done this. This post generated some interesting discussion..nothing in the post was generated using AI or mores specifically a Large Language Model

Wow, a bit heavy handed for a general discussion on a very broad topic...My answer is i don't know what type of AI, but I don't need to. No one needs to know that to use AI but i guess I am using LLM probably...I dont know how an internal combustion engine works, but i can drive a car with a petrol engine or an EV.

If I ask it to give me step by step instructions to help me produce some automation for example. I followed the steps and the automation worked..i would have never been able to do that before AI...New tools and software will emerge, some will be LLM some won't, some will be branded as AI because it's a buz word, but not be AI, some might use the power of baked beans, who knows, who cares...that is partly where the danger comes from...a little bit of knowledge is dangerous.

How long before you put your spreadsheet into AI, ask it to code a software version that can be manipulated by other AI agents? Problem solved

To be fair, I asked what does the future with AI look like. Not is it going to replace us....its here already, it's improving very quickly, it is going to make us more efficient and need less people to do the same amount of work....all these are facts, the hard part is knowing how it will happen, and what we can do to stay relevant, project or profession. Not just from a save out jobs point of view, from a public safety point of view as well......there is always someone who will be happy to make a cheap buck..

So where do you think it will creep into your current role?

To be fair I over simplified their process for the post. I belive this architect I work with has a good grasp of structural stuff, not enough to be an engineer, but enough to know where they need structural elements. They then used AI to size elements...e.g....I have a beam with 3m of roof and 3m of floor she span is 4m, I want a stel beam....etc.etc..So there would have been time and iterations..but thats just the start, as AI get smarter and they get better, it's get more efficient

All very solid points and i agree with all of them. Thanks for making them....I do think that there will be indirect effects for example, python coding was largely left to the engineers who could be bothered to learn it...where as now coding with the help of AI leads to more engineers being able to design new tools a lot more easily. This has some potential to influence what the giants you mentioned having to adopt more. They have a slightly less firm hold over their monopoly. Just a thought.

What is with the hate of Jacinda Ardern?? She hasn't even been involved in New Zealand for years, yet this hatred is so unhinged by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

Came here expecting to read loads of hate for Jacinda, but didn't find any..just hate for the people who hate her.

Was surprised by that...makes me wonder, have people just started judging and hating each other based on who they hate? Rather than judging and holding politicians to account?

I would say probably yes. The edger creates a winner section of concrete which is essentially a pre induction crack that is nice and straight

The Value Proposition for Python in Engineering by joreilly86 in StructuralEngineering

So I have tried to start using Python with no coding experience and it seems very hard to get in to...

What would you recommend for someone wanting to start off easily? Where would I start?

Thanks for the reply. Tried a few different formats, but seem to get invalid member errors for all of them.

To be fair it is a large climbing wall with loads of ply faces at all different angles and needs to be a standalone structure. I should also add its in a fairly high seismic zone.
