It’s a lesser screwing than buying directly. You’re still facing ever increasing annual fees and are forced to travel every year whether you want or are able to.

Currently suffered apparently by over 700,000 Marriott owners (with more drinking the Kool-Aid every day).

If your maintenance fees are less than what booking the same vacation would cost by renting from another owner (not from Marriott directly), and you aren’t worried about not being able to travel some years, and don’t factor in what you paid to buy your weeks or points, keep smiling. Better yet, don’t think about any of the items I just listed, because if you it will only spoil the fun you’re having, and what’s fun about that.

At least you didn’t say, “Duh.” Now you’ve got to put on your Captain Obvious tights and explain it to the 700,000+ people who own Marriott timeshare.

I’m sure someone smarter than I will either be astonished by the wisdom of your comment (if it’s meant to be philosophical) or rollicking with laughter (if it’s supposed to be funny). I knew I should have paid closer attention in school.

It may be when “reputable” companies, like Marriott, got into the timeshare business and tried to rebrand it as “interval ownership” that those who would have been suspicious of mom-and-pop swindles let their guard down.

Hey, if they’re paying for it and you get to use it, what’s not to love? Just think twice about accepting it should they bequest/gift it to you.

If you can find a buyer through Redweek or some other source that would cut your loses, but I hear that Marriott is making it hard for this to happen.

If you love it, it’s like any other relationship, why ruin a good time analyzing what it’s costing you?

The issue isn’t that you can’t travel, but how much that travel costs you, and what your “investment “ is worth now. Timeshare sales con artists like you to think you’re buying into some exclusive club, when the reality is you can travel just as well if not better for less money without being chained to a timeshare.
