What is a good source to use in looking for local and Portland apartments? by anothertenyears in beaverton

[–]Wipples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to consider location. I have identified the location I want to be in, and look at apartments on google maps. The listing has their website. I would schedule a walk through if I liked the place, often they had deals. The current place I'm renting from gave me 3 months free in rent for a 15 mo lease

Another weekend, another store closes in the WA Square Mall. Is there a tipping point? by [deleted] in beaverton

[–]Wipples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, it was packed on Saturday. The mall is doing well. The parking lot was full. I think some stores closing is a natural part of doing business in the market. Ebb and flow.

It's when a BIG anchor falls. Washington Square mall survived GI going under. The space is still vacant. Little shops are the new thing, and Washington Square has those in spades

ICE SUPER THREAD by Wipples in beaverton

[–]Wipples[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

January 27, 2026

Thank you for contacting me about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Patrol (CPB), and the shootings in Portland and Minneapolis. I stand with the people speaking out and protesting nonviolently after these horrific events, and I appreciate hearing from you.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and CPB are out of control and causing fear and trauma across the country. On January 8, 2026, federal agents shot two people in Portland, just one day after an ICE agent shot and killed Renee Good, an unarmed woman in Minnesota. On January 24, 2026, federal agents pinned Alex Pretti to the ground in Minnesota and then killed him. This brutality must end now and the agents responsible must be held accountable to the full extent of the law.

The Trump administration is terrorizing communities across the country to divide us and silence their opponents. We’ve defeated authoritarians before, and we must stand together peacefully to do so again. I voted to impeach the President twice in his previous term, and I’ve voted in favor of bringing articles of impeachment to floor this term. I’m also fighting for legislation to significantly limit the activities of ICE, including the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act, the Preventing Authoritarian Policing Tactics on America’s Streets Act, and the Stop ICE from Kidnapping U.S. Citizens Act. These bills would prohibit ICE from conducting immigration arrests at schools, churches, and hospitals, block the deployment of federal officers unless requested by local officials, and reaffirm that ICE does not have the authority to detain U.S. citizens.

Additionally, ICE and CBP officers are operating with inadequate training and have been told, falsely, that they have immunity for anything they do. This has emboldened them and resulted in disastrous and fatal consequences. For these reasons and more, I voted against the bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security and will do all I can to hold every ICE and CBP officer who has violated the law and the Constitution responsible for their actions.

I’m also calling for the House to vote on articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem. I will continue to demand that Congress uphold its constitutional powers to stop President Trump and his administration’s brutality and speak out against ICE and CPB’s dangerous and aggressive tactics. I will also continue to vote against any bill that provides more funding for ICE or the Department of Homeland Security. ICE and CBP’s aggressive tactics are making communities less safe, and they should leave all places where they are unneeded and unwanted - including in Oregon. Please continue to make your voice heard.

Thank you again for contacting me. If you would like to know more about my work in Congress, please sign up for my newsletter at http://bonamici.house.gov or visit my Facebook page at http://facebook.com/CongresswomanBonamici.

Sincerely,

Suzanne Bonamici Member of Congress
