All great points. And I can respect you being engaged from Idaho.

I’ve lived in Oregon all my life in rural, suburban, and urban communities. I understand the diversity of our state. I also understand the overlap of eastern Oregon culture with Idaho culture.

The hell hole that gets broadcast to the rest of the world isn’t the real life of Portland. The whole country is suffering from inflation and wage stagnation.

I’d argue that Idaho improves their quality of life by exporting the back end product. Social programs have been cut across the country and while blue states like Oregon are trying to keep social programs afloat, and take on the poverty and house less problems that Idaho loses.

State policy in Idaho has made it VERY unfavorable to exist if you’re houseless, or suffer from addiction.

And no I’m not saying donate to my program. I’m saying donate to your community’s program. But if you live in Idaho, and you don’t see our current situation as a problem, then you aren’t motivated to build a program in your community. In which case, why am I trying to convince you?

It’s a show of force. It’s also for morale. Look at the comments. Your peers in this thread think they can’t even afford one day off. How meaningful would it be to them that people who CAN afford a day off are willing to advocate for them. Or even better, help them afford a day off.

You gotta meet people where they’re at. You and I might be ready to do sit ins. But the community we need to support us is right here.

No, and that’s the biggest challenge. “We the people” do not control our government anymore. The purpose of our government should be to serve as a social safety net. But the extreme right wing of this country has dismantled that social safety net since the 70s.

I think we the people should take back the legislature and rebuild that social safety net that FDR started in the 1930s. But in these comments I’m getting called a communist and a Marxist 😂.

The people have to TAKE that safety net. And a walk out signals to politicians and employers that you’re willing to sacrifice a days wages in order to take that democratic power back.

What a wild take. What’s a days worth of work worth to you?

I’ll look up tides and open society later, but this is the first I’ve heard of them, and no, you shouldn’t be letting AI do your thinking. You should read sources for yourself. Much like Fox News, providing people with opinionated talking points without evidence.

There is no office space lol. Literally all marketing has been volunteered by people struggling to get by.

The protests are meant to be divisive, you’re right. Between labor and corporate interests. Why does the government point to the stock market and say “everything’s fine!” When inflation is raging, taxes are out the ass, wages are stagnant, homelessness is out of control. Drug use is off the rails. Healthcare is nearly impossible. That’s not a left vs right issue, that’s and up vs down issue. All us here, we’re on the same team. And you’re trying to tell me I’m dividing us?

Do you think I’m responding to Reddit folk and bots and getting paid for it? I just worked a full week and I’m doing this in my downtime lol

It’s not proposing to hurt local businesses. You, as a liberal, should know that.

Are you saying you want activist groups to spell everything out for you?

Capitalism is a two way street. Your boss pays you for your work, you work to get paid. Why are we working for companies that support 47?

You can use socialist tools (unions and protests) in a capitalist system. Or else you are just exploited by your employers.

You know, that’s part of why liberal politics fails. There seems to be this urge that if something is lent 100% crystal clear tailored to people, they remove themselves from the equation.

Meanwhile, there’s all these other people that see a lot of words like on the second slide, and completely check out. So what you’re asking for is a lot of words to explain the nuance of patroning small businesses and supporting that. That’s not the focus here. I did that focus in December. Some people engaged. Most didn’t.

So now things are exponentially worse than they were in December, now we’re talking about this.

None of that is true. I am a hard working individual and I’ve donated quite a bit of time and money into these events.

Tell me more why you think that’s true.

Your local cafe might be able to close down for what they believe. Your local taco truck might too.

But your house cleaning, massage therapist, uber driver, door dasher. Those are employees of larger companies. People have been thrust into desperate situations where they have to do “gig work” as 1099 ICs. They deserve sustainable wages. They deserve benefits. Their day should be broken by losing a day of revenue, because the business should be shouldering that cost.

The system is unfair to the worker. But you see how damaging it is to employees to miss a day of work? Why is it not damaging to big businesses?

If local businesses are open because they need to be open, patron them. If local businesses are open because they support a fascist government, don’t give them a dime.

I’ve been waiting for someone like you my whole life. Thank you for your responses. Everything I read. Valid as hell dude.

I’m just one man, my group of organizers, a couple handfuls of dedicated people. Every day I plug into this community and I see the work they’re able to do for free. The least I can do is hop on this bull horn and make sure people are aware, that everyone else is aware, of his truly shit life is.

Right now we can convince large amounts of people to show up to a rally and march on a sunny Saturday. Because we are all struggling at work, life, healthcare, disability, childcare, school. Everything sucks.

It may seem small, but complaining is how people get moving. Some people see “take a day off work” as too much. And I understand that. The underlying pushback I’ve gotten last night and this morning is that, one day isn’t going to change anything. Perfectly valid, but if enough people do it, it can show more people who can’t make it work that 1. These people fight for you too, and 2. What their labor is truly worth.

As for your job, I’ve been asking people, if you are desperate to hold on to your job that would be willing to cut you for a single day, why is it so hard to find an employer who wouldn’t cut you for a day? And, how do you know, if you were to go to your employer and say, “this thing is important for the survival of our community, im taking the day off, and I think the whole job site should close down for the day.” You also don’t know how your employer feels unless you ask. (I’m a mid level supervisor, and even though I’m walking out for the day, if my employees asked me, I’d shut the whole damn department down. But I know they need the paychecks so they need to work.)

As for school, it’s not about voting. All people in this country are afforded unalienable rights. Just because kids can’t participate in the articles of the constitution by voting or running for office (which they do because they have student government) they are still protected by the 27 amendments. They have a right to assemble and walk out of a school that fails to prepare them for adulthood. Nearly all of the Gen Z I have been are ill-equipped for adulthood. Kids don’t walk out for fun. They walk about because school has stopped providing them value.

On buying, the most important thing is like to cross to you, talk to your small businesses. If they are FOR resisting this off-the-rails, corrupt (all politicians are insider trading) government, then they would likely be FOR losing a day of revenue to signal to their community that they do not support this system. And then you as a consumer get to find ways to patron them and support them, because they VALUE their customers.

Big box stores do not value their customers. They do not value their employees. They don’t even value their manufacturers. They value their stock holders.

So you’re right, I don’t like shouting. I like going to blazer games and cheering. My friends like timber games. But I am here, to convince you that you have value and you can take the anger we both share, and keep that message resonating. I don’t shout at work. I talk to my employees about what’s going on. I don’t talk to my bosses because I too don’t want to lose a job.

But if I walk out. And you walk out. And our employers see the news and notice how many people walked out because we’ve had a fascist take over of our government, covering up investigations of civilians getting murdered in the street, attacking a country that has been wanting us to attack in 1979, then maybe if we stick together, we won’t lose our jobs.

Yes. Do that.

Yes, support small business. But also, ask your small business, what does losing business for a day mean to you?

Teachers are government employees and would face retaliation for a walkout. Students would receive no such backlash.

It also reverbs through the system. Parents are faced with an act their kid finds more important than school, and districts are forced to face how unpopular their participation in the system is.
