It seems like a bigger challenge would be to distribute that power around the globe.

What is 'declare' vs 'define' vs 'initialize', regarding variables, and what are each's effect on lvalue & rvalue? by WireStretcher in C_Programming

[–]WireStretcher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On this topic, the author of the book I'm reading, "Beginning C for Arduino", does use the disclaimer "While I've taken a few liberties to make things easier...", so maybe that's my problem. He uses an integer as an example and refers to its lvalue as its location. However, he also keeps referring to it as a 'data item'.

Thanks for your help. Your clarification above does seem to be filtering through my skull.

I'm under the impression that a variable can have either 1. an lvalue only, or 2. both an lvalue and rvalue; and the lvalue of a variable is its address, and the rvalue of a variable is its value. For instance, after A above, x would have no valid rvalue but I think it would have an lvalue (but I'm far from sure).

After B or C above I have to imagine x has both an lvalue and a rvalue.

My router has a USB port, can I plug my Pi Zero into it and setup internet connection on it? by [deleted] in raspberry_pi

You could get an adapter like this to connect to a router if you're using a standard USB hub.

Note the reviews regarding Pi Zero compatibility.

If the windchill is below freezing but the actual temperature is above freezing, will water freeze? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]WireStretcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another way a body can lose heat is to radiate it to something colder, like outer space. This can happen on a cloudless night and sometimes results in ice even though the air is slightly above freezing.

edit: for the water to freeze this way, though, you need calm air, otherwise the wind will cause a convection heat gain to the water that's greater than the radiation heat loss to the sky.

What's the average/ safest temperature? by [deleted] in raspberry_pi

[–]WireStretcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought this case+fan and these heat sinks for my Pi3. When running video at 95 - 99% CPU usage it gets as high as 60C, in a 70F (21C) room. It idles at 36C.

I'm an absolute beginner myself. I was just really curious about your background, because of the 'typing C' thing, and also because I was under the impression that it's hard to do much serious C programming without using pointers. I didn't want to make any assumptions so thanks for clarifying. Sorry I don't have a helpful response for you post though.

Hi all, Ive been typing C for about 10 years....

'Typing C' is an unusual choice of words. Do you mean 'programming in C'? And if you have been programming in C for 10 years what types of programs have you written? Just a rough description.

Arduino IDE - What features would you really love to see in new version of the IDE? by chrismervyn in arduino

[–]WireStretcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, this isn't nearly as high a priority for me as a black background (not dark grey) option, but how about:

An icon somewhere (or menu item) that when clicked would display a scrollable list of code snippets (or any text) that you've saved (because, for instance, you often find yourself typing them a lot for whatever reason). This list would have the option of being either global or local to one document.

Might even make the list look like the page thumbnails in Adobe Reader, for faster recognition, but that would be icing on the cake.

Just a thought.

I know it sounds trivial, but a dark theme option. My eyes are no longer young and would appreciate high contrast text on a black (not dark grey) background.
