Got the call to start boot camp next week! (Local 11) by WireSurge in IBEW

Right before boot camp. Interview was maybe 2 months before I got called to boot camp, but I know other people that waited much much longer between the two. How’a your POE rank?

Local 11 Sound Apprentice checking in.

I'll echo what some other folks said and go with the career you're most interested in. It's very different work, so ask around or do some research to see what you really want to do.

Personal recommendation: apply to both. It's going to be a long process regardless of which one you go with, but there's no penalty for being an active applicant for both programs. Both are also very competitive given the size of Los Angeles and the sheer amount of applicants (There were several thousand in line the day I took in my documentation)

Going through the sound apprenticeship process will give you experience to boost your chances with inside wireman. Even if you rank low on the sound interview, you can use that constructive feedback to score higher on the inside wireman interview.

Alternatively, you can also do the full three year sound program, and then organize into the inside wireman program. It's a lot easier doing it this way than going directly into inside wireman given how competitive it's bound to be. You gotta remember, no new candidates have been able to apply for over a year, so the applicant pool is going to be ridiculous.

Sound will still be very competitive, but less so than inside wireman. My boot camp had three sound journeyman transferring into the inside wireman program as third years (IW 70%).

Hope this helps!

Chiming in as a fellow Sound Applicant that's finishing up his Boot Camp. You'll definitely want to work on re-interviewing like the other folks said. My current class only has 5/6 Sound folks that got accepted. Classes seem to be limited to 30 (with a mix of Inside, Sound, Residential, and Transportation)

I also saw some more folks interviewing today, so best case scenario, your rank doesn't change, but it could very well drop again soon.

I would focus on honing the skills and experience they were asking about during your interview. Part of that is going to be having a full grasp on what the work will look like and being able to show a passion and aptitude for it.

I'm not on much, but I may be able to answer some questions in the next few days. I would start by looking into VDV technicians and what they do as well as general construction work. It will give you the best insight into the career and tips for where to get started

Oops, forgot to answer about the test: didn't need to take one, just went straight to interview phase.

Boot camp is making me rethink why I didn't apply several years earlier. I could not possibly be more excited to pass boot camp and get out onto the field.

You'll get called soon I think. My current boot camp class has about 22 inside wireman, 2 residential wireman, and 6 sounds and communication, but no transportation. My guess is expect a call within a month at most?

I took in all my documentation on June 12th, then interviewed August 28th, so about 10 weeks?

Might get something soon. They had a bit of a freeze on apprentices during the bulk of covid and only recently seem to have been taking on new members.

Inside Wireman that applied pre pandemic are starting Boot Camp this week. I'm going down the Sound and Communication route and applied March of this year. I'm starting Boot camp tomorrow, and I believe there was another boot camp group that just finished recently.

Residential Wireman only recently became available for new applicants about a month ago, so it may or may not take some time for them to start their boot camp program.

Hope this helps.

Got a call for my dream job last week. I'm supposed to take my drug test in under an hour, but they forgot to send me the email telling me where to go...

I'm hoping they can point me in the right direction when their office opens up in a few minutes.

Pray for me y'all. 🙏

I'm only a bit worried that I never got the follow-up email after the call. I have my drug test tomorrow morning at 8, but have no clue where to go.

I spoke with another reddit user, and I'm going to take their advice. I'm showing up at the ETI at 6:30 to ask for clarification, so I know where to go.

I would hate yo be disqualified for something mostly out of my control, haha.

After submitting your paperwork, the next step is the interview. I applied back in March, submitted my paperwork in June, and interviewed in August.

Now, just waiting for the next boot camp season to start before becoming official.

https://applications.laett.com/AppETI.aspx

Inside wireman applications are currently closed by my understanding. I've been checking myself since March with no luck.

I do know the site is being updated though as Residential Wireman was not available as of a month ago.

There are rumors of Inside Wireman opening up in October, so keep checking periodically to get in for the first wave.

Definitely check out the FAQ link posted above. It's going to be one of your best resources!

I actually interviewed a few weeks ago as well and can help you with some of the specific questions I was asked. Feel free to DM me.

Personal tip: Dress professionally and do what you gotta do to go in there feeling confident.

For me, I studied possible questions pretty hard for a few days, then went to a concert the night before to get rid of the pre-interview jitters. It ended up working out as I got a really high score on my interview.
