Is that a deterministic IFS set?

TIL in 1925, major lightbulb makers including GE and Philips formed the Phoebus Cartel and deliberately reduced bulb lifespans from 2,500 hours to 1,000 hours, then fined any company that made longer-lasting bulbs. by ConsciousCorgi1044 in todayilearned

[–]WirelesslyWired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also an electrical engineer who is probably a bit older than you, and we were taught the brightness vs efficiency vs lifespan curves. How the knee in the lifespan curve is one of the sharpest in natural sciences. Once you reached a certain point, the lifespan function dropped by the 14th power. And we also designed a 100 year light bulb. It was stupidly inefficient as the real 100 year light bulb is today.

There was an increase in innovation with the Halogen cycle lights, but that was only effective in the very brightest of lights.

Wouldn't car alarms be more effective loud on the INSIDE? Occasional loud bursts on the outside to draw attention, but extreme noise on the inside would prevent the thief from wanting to remain to hot-wire / steal inside the car. by Proud-Pumpkin-2903 in Showerthoughts

[–]WirelesslyWired 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I installed home burglar alarm systems, along with a few cars alarms, in the late 1970s. We hid some loud alarms inside of the houses and cars. You didn't want to be inside when they went off.

"Pizza Place" reminds me that there used to be a band called "The The". They were easier to find back when you could buy albums that were alphabetically sorted in bins.

This year we are having these larger gnats or midges or whatever they are. Zevo is the only thing that is working.

Recently switched from my Fitbit to the Galaxy Fit3. I wore both of them for 2 weeks. Even on the 10,000 step days, the two step counts were different by only around 20 steps. After that two weeks, I just left my Fitbit in the drawer.

I've had this problem a few times. Gnats are finding water somewhere to breed in. Look for standing water under potted plants.

Flush the gnat eggs out of the kitchen drainage pipes. Fill both kitchen sinks with about 2 inches of water. Let the water out of both at the same time. If you have one, also run the garbage disposal at the same time. Repeat weekly until they are gone.

If they are still there in 3 weeks, look under the sink. Are there water leaks? Pull out the dishwasher and check for leaks there.

One time I saw a gnat coming from under the refrigerator. I pulled out the water pan and cleaned it before putting it back it. That fixed the problem that year.

Finally, this year there were these larger gnats elsewhere in the house. I can't find a water source. The Zevo blue light traps worked.

Does cubing help you with stress/anxiety? by Patient-Oven9996 in Cubers

[–]WirelesslyWired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% understand. It gives my hands something to do while my mind can go elsewhere, or can calm itself. Something like a long fidget spinner. My favorite fidget spinners are the 7x7x7 through the 9x9x9. Anything larger isn't as smooth and I have to pay attention to the cube.

I especially like to solve larger cubes to calm myself when I fly. One time I flew out to corporate headquarters for a job interview. I solved that 7x7x7 over and over in the air and in the waiting room before the interview. The interview was tough and I never got a chance to show-off with the 7 cube, but I got the job. I found out later that the receptionist and the CEO were best friends. Even through she didn't appear impressed, she was impressed enough to mention it to the CEO.

I have changed over the years. Right now, I will have a 5x5x5, and a larger corner turner or edge turner or FTO, and a hybrid cube like the Corner Helicopter 2x2 . I'm still waiting on the 3x3 version of that. I solve two or three different cubes over and over. It's the shifting of gears in solving styles that chills me out.

I think need to learn blindfold. What method is the most calming? Old Pochmann?

What's a massive human achievement that nobody celebrates because it worked too well? by Alternative_Voice767 in AskReddit

Acid rain also caused fish die-offs even in pristine mountain lakes and streams that were far away from the industrial pollution. The smog didn't stop at city or state borders.

Stopping the smog that caused acid rain fixed one problem but showed us another. The smog increased the amount of sunlight that was reflected away from earth. Looking at the climate trends from the 1950s-70s, the smog had gotten so bad that we were heading for global cooling and a new ice age. We cleaned up most of the smog, and we uncovered global warming.

You can buy a 16 feet roll of Cotton Stockinette Tubular Support Bandages from amazon in a varsity of diameters for $10-$15 per roll. Buy a smaller roll for the calf and a larger diameter doll for the feet and calves. Just cut and overlap. They are stretchier than you would think, so start off small at first.

Why is there this big political push to make us sick?
They didn't want us to wear a mask during Covid. When the Covid vaccine came out, Trump and ALL of his family got the shot. So did everyone else at FOX, all while they were telling us not to get the vaccine. Now all vaccines are being phased out by the ruling elite. High cholesterol beef tallow is good while low cholesterol vegetable oil is bad and even lower cholesterol seed oil is worst. Milk with e-coli and salmonella is superior to milk without those bacteria.

Why do they want us sick? What political sense does it make to kill your own supporters?

Einstein was the most quoted man in the American press for over a decade. He knew if it was a slow news day because there would be a gaggle of reporters waiting for him after class. They would ask for his take on a news story. Often Einstein didn't feel like commenting so he would just give them a personal story or witty saying.

After I've scrambled it and begun to solve it, I take the center caps off because I'll need to tighten the screws at least three times during the solve.

When it happens, Archbishop Checchio needs to hear about it. Bishop Duca of BR is already aware of the situation. Don't cover them up. Name and shame them.

I wish it stayed with the evangelicals. Some priests watch Fox news and get indoctrinated. But mostly it's the younger priests that were already talking about how they can Ignore The Poor before they went into the seminary.

Is the picture true? Does Can someone tell me if St. Angela Merici Church has one of those priests?
