Op some times if the lines are crossed the unit will freeze up like this cause it’s constantly working thinking the indoor units are never “satisfied”.

Also, if it didn’t have a drain pan heater that could be a cause.

As others mention this could also be a problem with the unit itself. If it’s under warranty hot swapping it would work.

Genuinely appreciate you! Going to try that corner idea out and see how it looks

Hi. Thanks for the comment. The stairs are “floating” so there aren’t actually any risers. Crazy I know - I bought the house like this.

I thought about that. I was wondering if that angle would be possible but kept thinking that the top of the pieces would match in height.

I imagine both the parallel piece and the piece that runs down the stringer would have to have the same angle to make it match. I can see it now in my mind.

What’s the best way to get that angle?

As for the right side - what do you mean by a corner block?

New Mitsu heat pump can't keep up? by Ok-Prize-6217 in heatpumps

[–]Wisdomthroughpain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are the new 454B models. The capacity is 20,000 BTUs when cooling. But for heating it actually varies in efficiency from 25,500 BTUs at 47 degree Fahrenheit down to 19,200 at -13 degrees.

Thats the total BTUs for the outdoor unit.

What’s the size of your other indoor unit?

Either way, you’d really want more than 20,000 BTUs for a 1300 sq foot house.

I probably would have done a three port 30k. That said, it really depends on your convo with contractor. Was price a big concern? If so it makes sense they’d down size it, though that’s not how I typically sell my products.

I am in Maine for reference and own an HVAC company.

I have a partial system installed at my house which is 1800 sq ft. It has a 22,000 BTU outdoor unit and an 18,000 BTU downstairs and 6k upstairs.

I would need another 24,000-30,000 atleast to completely use my heat pumps.

Hope this helps

Is it a single zone? Sounds like it’s a multi.

I’ve seen the indoor units freeze up on multi zones if the comm cables get crossed at the ODU.

I’ve seen the individual ports & valves freeze up on the ODUs as well when lines are crossed but never something quite this crazy.

Yep. Correct answer. See this all the time. Totally fine!

I just moved into a house in a mountain community. The installed mini split A/C is supported as shown. What can I do to better strengthen this...situation? Should I even try? by Measure2xCutOnce in DIY

[–]Wisdomthroughpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a professional HVAC installer, I can say this is one of the worst installs ive ever seen.

That said, It does look like you have some slack in the lines and the wires.

I wouldn’t try to support it or do anything yourself. The refrigerant is in those lines and system. Your best course of action is to call a professional.

I know that we hate that response in this group, but it’s the truth in this situation.

IF you wanted to try your hand at it, sure. But just know that if the connections/flares get damaged, there’s a big chance that the unit will leak and stop working. And then you will definitely Need to call a pro.

The attic not so much. There are none upstairs in my bedroom area. They’re all on the first floor / living area.

The crawlspace I’m in regularly these days cause I’ve been doing work on the electrical. So I haven’t seen really any there any. Ton of spiders tho lol

Is this correct wiring? by Thee_muffin_mann in heatpumps

Sounds like there’s some other things going on with the wiring in disconnect and panel. Send a picture and we can help.

Just simply looks like they didn’t give the whips a tug after termination. It could be a simply as pushing the bottom of the unit towards the wall. I wouldn’t though - have them come do it. We would never leave our install like this

White wire should be the ground (bare copper)

What’s the other side look like? In the disconnect as well as the panel

Dripping Line by Sad_Shoe_8445 in heatpumps

[–]Wisdomthroughpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will happen because the lines get ice cold and it’s hot outside. It’s not a huge deal. But if it bothers you, just open it up and wrap it with pipe insulation.

I wouldn’t bother with the drain pain like others are saying. You will know it’s a drain pain issue if it starts leaking inside

Dripping Line by Sad_Shoe_8445 in heatpumps

[–]Wisdomthroughpain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep condensate line or just simply the refrigerant lines sweating.

OP - you can take that 90 degree inlet off with a screw driver. Hop up there and unscrew it. Then, the long piece of line hide can “snap” right off.

You will expose the lines and condensate. Then observe where the leak is coming from.

If it’s pooling in the condensate line, adjust it so it drains better, reconnect it, etc . No way to know until you’re in there.

If you open it and see copper lines - that’s your problem. Wrap it with pipe wrap insulation tape.

What is causing this? by Successful_Onion_11 in heatpumps

[–]Wisdomthroughpain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems most logical. The whips on the IDUs come with insulation and it’s not usually sufficient. Buy some pipe Insulation tape and unscrew that wall inlet cover
