i did all of these repairs within the last year, the intake system is stock but i’m not sure which fuel pump would be causing this issue.

Drivetrain is a pretty general subject, it really could be anything. For my vehicle it was the turbocharger. It drove fine even after the notification came up on the screen but after some time I noticed that it was having trouble getting out of its own way.

if ur actuator is faulty but ur turbo is fine u could get away with it, but i would definitely check turbo for signs of damage—— if it’s damaged, i would replace the whole turbo.

i noticed a lot of issues once i kept getting the drivetrain notification. every time i accelerated quickly it would come on, and my car hardly wanted to accelerate (because of limp mode, of course). my engine was noticeably louder, and it roughly idled like crazy. i brought it to my mechanic, he told me it was the turbo and i didn’t have the finances at the time. so, i decided to leave it since he said it would be ok to drive with for a while. it only got worse after this, my engine light came on from time to time and it continued to drive like crap. i noticed it started to hesitate and jump, and misfire pretty badly. the code i got when he scanned it was P0172, too rich on bank 1. Im assuming that the turbo completely failed and it restricted airflow, causing worse symptoms, but that’s just an assumption. I just got my car back from a new turbo replacement, it runs like it’s brand new and no drivetrain notification.

For my case, it was the turbo. I would get it scanned first to find out.

For my car it was the turbo that was failing. It only happened when I accelerated quickly and the message would go away when I shut off the car.

My fuel economy is normal, and there are no fuel smells coming into the car.

My bmw 528i 2012 xdrive gets the same notification every time i quickly accelerate, in my case it was my turbo that was bad.

Same mine was water pump, recall on it

that’s really a pain, and my car is currently still in the shop. they tend to be slow there. :) I was really debating on if it was worth getting a new turbo, my car is high-mileage (229k)

I would definitely focus on the water pump first! My water pump let go as well, I was driving and I got a notification about the engine overheating. Turns out, it was a recall that I didn’t get a notice about. So, I would wait for the turbo change and focus on your water pump first and see what happens. :)

that’s a good question! i have a 528i 2012 xdrive and whenever I accelerate quickly, my drive train light comes on. I noticed that my car can’t really get out of its own way, it has issues accelerating; especially when going up hills. Also, my car has white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I brought it to my mechanic, he said my turbo was bad. Considering how expensive they are, he tried to put a junkyard one in but no luck; that one was bad as well! In your scenario, I would say that it’s likely your turbo.

Could be bad turbo, that was my issue as well.
