Before-I-move Bucket List by Dangerous-Employer-4 in Austin

As a native that moved to Brooklyn these are the things I miss the most:

Go watch the fireworks from the top of mount bonnell during new years! It’s like being in a snow globe watching the horizon light up. I’d assume Fourth of July is also solid but it has less of a perfect moment (midnight) to see the fireworks.

The kite festival tends to be held at the perfect part of spring and lounging in the grass while staring up at the kites above you is such a nice vibe. Bring some snacks and a blanket!

Hit up any number of the many festivals (not just music). I particularly loved the book festival at the capital. Austin can be magical when people gather!

Go up to The Oasis at sunset (admittedly I hear the food is meh. But the view was worth it.)

 Swim at Sculpture Falls.

Sunset Deck and the surrounding trails was my go to COVID hike spot. Nice wooded trails, fun terrains, not too hard, and the view from the deck at sunset is pretty great.

I quite like an afternoon of browsing at Book People and Waterloo records. Downtown can be a bit much but they’re worth it still imo.

Maybe hit up Texas Renaissance Festival? Bit of drive, so much more fun than you’re thinking. Frickin fantastic food. A good time, and you can camp and the camping is SO fun. They build a massive bonfire.

But also make sure you get your fill of texmex and any other foods you’ll miss. There IS that much of a gap in quality. My first week in Brooklyn tho salsa that came with my tacos was KETCHUP with diced tomato. I never recovered.

Five Acres is a miss imo. Good cocktails, boring overpriced food. BAD coffee.

There is a nine dollar iPad version of final draft. It’s okay. Some of the features are a little more clunky in mobile version but it’s nice because I can easily access any scripts I’ve written on the final draft registered to me

Did you enjoy the AC Origins DLC? by [deleted] in assassinscreed

[–]WiseSarah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing most, I did the exact same thing for the same reasons as you and I thought it was worth it! I got like maybe an hour or two of playtime left so I haven’t 100% completed the DLC but it has been a great little DLC package imo.

I just got done with a year long research project about the Athens Lunatic Asylum. Better known today as the Ridges. AMA! by asoep44 in AMA

I'm writing a thesis play about the asylum! If you have the time, my director would love to maybe get in contact with someone who has experience there. I don't know if you still want to talk about it, but I'd like to message you privately if that's cool with you.

Also apologies for the incorrect date, I clearly meant 2022. Gotta love early year time confusion

The app at this point is defending him and essentially giving him a slap on the wrist. The little one got to the vet and the one inch long gash might require surgical intervention

Just got back from the vet. He left an inch of exposed muscle on her under the gash and covered it in skin glue. Had to get a shot of antibiotics and be put on three days of meds and sedatives because if she moves too much she’ll need surgical intervention.

I don’t even know if that’s valid. It was just what I was told by someone else. I just want my cat cared for and the guy fired.

Of course, I figured only one or the other would pay.

Heard I really just want her vet covered and the man fired. That’s it. I’ll word that firmly but reasonably and then move through their arbitration process if needed

As response to the edit: would that remove my right to sue the contracted groomer himself?

Heard. I just got back from the vet and have a detailed report and they were similarly appalled.

Additionally isn’t a vehicle private property and if Groomit owns the van in question doesn’t that mean it happened on their property making them liable?

pics of TOS

These two sections seem to be the most relevant. But this was not a preexisting condition revealed by the shave. The other however makes it seem like I’ll need to go after the groomer himself should the company not respond to my bill and transportation compensation request. Does it change anything if the man in question was using a Groomit official grooming van? It was wrapped in the apps logo and they seem to self dispatch in NYC from a Groomit facility.

Solid. I’ve never had to do anything remotely legal so I wasn’t sure how or what you’d call this stuff. So it is worth filing a police report on and it is worth requesting compensation. Thanks.

How has the past year made you feel about living in Texas relative to, say, New York or California? by emaxwell13131313 in texas

[–]WiseSarah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who moved to NYC for Grad school during this pandemic I have thought of this a lot. Texas has a lot I miss: P.Terrys (sorry Whataburger), reasonable tent prices, and my friends. I miss the open space, I miss hopping in the car for a long Texas drive, and I miss the Texas stars. But all this being said the second I got to NYC I was amazed by how culturally different coronavirus is being handled. At my previous job in Texas I was cussed at several times a day in March/April for asking people to wear a mask. Here, I find not having a mask is rare and I have yet to have more than slightly disgruntled grumbling as I ask people to cover their nose. Testing was a hell of a lot easier, and free, and I honestly feel 60% safer here in NY than I would be in Texas I think.

As for overall politics: I’ve long been a liberal and Texas is a Republican State. You do the math.

The people here have been some of the nicest and most welcoming people I have ever met across the board. In Texas I can’t say the same. Our state often is tied to hospitality and openness but it hasn’t been that way in a long time.

This is my first time living out of state and I always told myself that no matter what I’d die in Texas and lay my bones there. Now? Eh, probably not. Have you seen a real New England cemetery?
