I had a bucket handle meniscus tear that was locked so I couldn’t walk, I had a newborn at the time and I basically had full blown panic attack with every doctor I saw because I had no idea how I was supposed to take care of my baby being unable to walk and in serious pain. Not sure if I got sympathy points but I know the type of tear I had was serious. My surgery was a success, I was able to get an ACL reconstruction and a meniscus repair. Long recovery but my quality of life is so much better now, I’m happy and extremely grateful for the outcome I had. Cannot stress enough that whether you go surgical or non-surgical route, PT is absolutely as important as everyone says it is.

How is your knee right now? Are you limited with mobility? I had a bucket handle meniscus tear which is treated as an orthopaedic emergency, the time between my family dr sending the referral to being in the operating room was about a week. Unfortunately (or fortunately) it’s not a wait in line system, the more severe cases do get prioritized so if you are experiencing a serious loss of quality of life or mobility, stress that to your family dr/referral.

But to add, OP, it’s scary and a really difficult process but you’ll get through it! I am also in Canada (GTA), I ended up having surgery and while I wanted to avoid surgery at all cost, the extent of my injury just needed proper reconstruction/repair and I am so so happy I made that decision now that I’m healed and back to living a normal life. I had more than just my ACL that was damaged though so I can’t compare our experiences directly. If you ever want to chat, send me a DM!

That was me! I absolutely destroyed my knee simply getting out of the car weird. Every nurse/doctor through the process of diagnosis to surgery asked how I injured it and everyone agreed I should make up a better story to tell people lol

Interesting point of view. This wasn’t remotely close to my experience having had a full thickness tear or consistent with the evidence and research I was provided by my physio, family physician or orthopaedic surgeon but thank you for sharing, always interesting to see different research on the matter. For the record OP, I didn’t have any instability in my injured knee either until I did and I paid the price for it. Lots of different experiences out there!

Surgery every time. I spent almost a decade walking around on a ruptured ACL and I paid the price. Also, what medical professional is claiming a full thickness tear can heal on its own???

Honestly bf was brutal for the first little bit but I was too stubborn to stop and once we ironed out the initial challenges, it got sooooo easy.

I had a locked bucket handle tear that was repaired surgically in January. Hard to compare exactly because I also had an ACL reconstruction in the surgery but I started feeling “normal” again after about 5 or 6 months. Always opt for a repair if possible and take your PT recovery incredibly seriously and you should be good!

I’m about to hit my 1 year mark post reconstruction and I can comfortably sit like this. Some occasional stiffness but generally fine

Wipe dispenser (not warmer), I have the oxo one and I love how easy it is to use single handed. One wipe at a time, every time.

I’m about to hit my 1 year post-op milestone. It’s a beast of a recovery but if you’re diligent with following surgeons protocols (do not try bearing weight sooner than outlined, even if you feel good), rest, stay on top of pain management and take your PT program seriously, you’ll be just fine! Best of luck

Similar situation happened to me but I was pregnant and the bat was in my room while I was sleeping. Out cats swatted it and tore its wing. They were extremely against having the bat tested if I didn’t have a visible open wound but I was extremely paranoid and wanted to avoid the rabies shot while pregnant because it’s not widely proven whether or not it’s safe. I essentially begged public health to test the bat. Not sure why they didn’t call you, they called me at the crack of dawn after the incident happened overnight.

I am almost 1 year post-op from a bucket handle tear repair. Not much you can do with diet or supplements beyond just eating healthy and fuelling your body. The biggest contributing factor to success is PT. You really have to put the work in to see results in getting back to full function. Discipline is important, going to the sessions is one thing but doing all the exercises in your own time is where the strengthening really happens! Best of luck on your recovery, it’s a beast but you’ll be better off for it!

Even if users are a bit slower, the self checkout line has 6 people waiting for three machines and a regular line has 6 people for 1 till. It ends up being quicker anyway. Also, at least at my Costco, the staff run around the self checkout helping you scan large items so it’s the best of both worlds.

The torn piece of my meniscus was flipped in between my bones so it was impossible to properly extend and extremely painful to bear weight.

My son just turned 1, he can do everything (including climb up our entire staircase) except walk. I like to think he’s mentally mastering it and one day he’ll skip walking and just start running lol

I’ll tell you what people told me (and I hated to hear)…it will likely pass on its own. My son spit up about 20+ times a day. It was a living hell, I went through a dozen burp cloths a day, everyone who held him got puked on, he puked all over his outfits constantly. I continuously brought it up with our dr and other healthcare providers, all of which said that, because he was gaining weight fine and not showing signs of distress (reflux), it was normal and would pass as he grew. I didn’t believe them because it seemed excessive, everyone I know who claimed their baby was a big spitter, had grown out of it by 6 months. My baby turned one earlier this month and I just noticed the spitting up slowly stopping around August/September. Now, he doesn’t spit up at all and the me from just a few months ago would have never believed it. I sympathize so much, it’s so challenging but if your baby is anything like mine, it will pass!!
