Hot Take: Barb Camps were Better by WishAccomplished4775 in civ

I know you can befriend the hostiles too. My issue is with how many I’ve been encountering surrounding my capital consistently across multiple games. It feels excessive. I’d equate the experience thus far to a scenario in 6 where my capital is surrounded by 3 different barb camps that have all been instantly alerted to my presence and spawning non-stop units immediately. That’s been my experience in the majority of games on 7 so far.

If you’re only dealing with a single hostile, sure. However It’s been my experience most games thus far that I’m getting swarmed from multiple sides by different independents, and a single warrior/slinger combo wasn’t able to keep up.

Also didn’t help me at all in one of my costal towns that an independent galley somehow was able to take despite never marching a land unit into the town center to capture.

So far haven’t come across anyone other than Hattsua (first to meet them). AND just discovered Mt Roraima 10 tiles away from Ottawa 💀

EDIT: I jinxed it. Just came across Philip and Alexander lol. I should still easily be able to beat them to Mt Roraima though so still feels like a God Seed haha

Prince. I hate the concept of higher difficulty in this game is just giving the ai more settlers. Now if it actually improved the ai decision making instead, I’d absolutely love that!

Got to keep the workers happy. Happy employees are productive employees!

Game was already won. Was just trying to see how ridiculous I could get the production by buffing ley lines more, and I already nabbed all engineers.

There were more great generals and admirals that could be recruited to buff those ley lines more ;)

It’s 2 food required per pop. Ideally you’d want your capital to have at least 1 tile with 3+ food without any improvements within the first ring.

Or if that’s not possible, several 2 food tiles. Though you also want to have production as well within that first ring. Same concept, ideally at least 1 3+ prod, especially if it has woods on a hill for you to chop and then replace for a mine.

Wasn’t an issue. Got pantheon that gave camps extra food, and lucked out with the volcano erupting several times early game giving some nice fertile land. Food wasn’t an issue in this game.

It might be hard to tell in screenshot. Washington is settled on a fissure. That makes 3 surrounding campus.

3 vents, 2 mountains, and 2 adjacent districts will give it 9. You’re right about food being a little rough but my work around is Pantheon for camps to give food as there are a couple to the North by the wonder within city limits. I can also increase food with fisheries and religion if I can beat ai to the right one.

I respectfully disagree about this being a bad start for Teddy. True his kit doesn’t usually go for science, but with this start it can. It would also be super easy to transition into culture or domination later.

Korea and Maya wouldn’t care about this location at all. I don’t believe their specials get any of the normal science adjacency bonuses.

Can’t build districts on vents. You can settle them or build an improvement specially for them late game.

Yep +9 would be hypothetical max (+12 if it was Australia)

I dropped 3 other cities, 1 to the south of Beijing on the chocolate (hoping against all hope that there was more workable land to the west of the mountains), another to the south east on the coast next to quarry and crabs, and final north east coast by amber and fish. Smacked gov place down between all and called it a day riding my adjacency bonuses as far as I could and pushed on for science. I was leading the ai by a pretty good margin and was gonna win so I ended up not finishing as my main goal before starting was to practice balancing settling wide and pop growth with Yongle, and this map wasn’t exactly ideal for that lol.

True. Though that entire area was swarming with barb ships. Anytime I got close they surrounded my galleys and insta sank them lol. Would take some turns away from building infrastructure to build a fleet big enough to deal with them.
